Sad result. :bigcry:
I know he´s had an injury and Ancic is very good, but I hoped his return to clay would be more successful.
Let´s hope for better things. good luck Gustavo :worship:
And well done mario! :bigclap:

Poor Guga! Hopefully he'll be in form again come Roland Garros! :)
Nice result by Ancic however, let's not forget to credit him!

He's not done, the road back to greatness isn't the easiest path. Remember Guga didn't have the best year last year before he made his run at the French. :)

Ahh Too bad for Guga.

But, it's early days yet. The important thing is whether he can play without pain.

I don't expect him to return to his former glory. I'll be satisfied if he can have another couple of years on the tour and have some good wins along the way. :)

I know:)! I'm aware that Guga has and will always have the ability to win on clay again, as he showed it to us in RG last year beating Federer in straight sets and reaching the quarters in pain while he had no rhythm at all, but seeing comments like this is just sooo frustrating:(!!

I'm sad for Guga  but happy for Mario :bigclap: I hate seeing 2 of my favorites play this soon in a tournament... First Kiwi vs Rainer and then these too.

Guga will be back :yeah:

i hope you're wrong. it's so hard to know for sure. no other player has come back from his type of (now double) surgery and re-established a significant career. but i sure hope Guga is the exception.

I'm sad for Guga. I was hoping that he would make a brillant comeback like Kimmy has done.

Give him time. When Safin came back from injury he lost some early rounds, but then he reached the final in Melbourne.
Who says Kuerten can't do the same, in RG that is off course :p

I would be surprised if Kuerten made a significant comeback, but I wish him the best of luck anyways.

And that isn't a sign of lacking respect either... as TC said, it's rare that a player bounces back from the type of surgery he had

That's the difference between men and women circuit. In the men's, the competition is so tight that it's very hard to come back to win after a long layoff. Also, Guga is a lot older (in the sports world) than Kim.

You're nice.

You forget that Guga, when he was, as you put it, done, last year, he somehow beat Roger Federer. You know, the man in your avatar.

Plus, Guga has just come back from major injury. It's not that easy.

Isn't that two surgeries of the same injury?

Yes, and it was a major injury that was bothering him a lot, making him suffer and receive treatment in all his matches (in RG last year, especially)... Holagirl is right, it is very hard to come back at 100% at only your second tournament (I should say impossible), and calling him "done" like you said is simply stupid, Guga evaluating himself still far from his best. Don't forget last year he lost in the first round of Monte Carlo while he wasn't injured, and even being injured, he was able to beat the man who's in your avatar.

he had already had treatment for it. if he can win wimbledon with on 30% of the ligaments in his shoulder in tact, then guga can, and will, come back. there really is no reason to criticize him for losing to ancic. lots of players have lost to ancic (like the guy in ur avatar)

What? ligaments? He had surgery on his rotator cuff, the problem was something to do with the bones. And no he didn't have surgery on it beforehand, he had tried heat treatments and lots of pain killer injections, it had nothing to do with ligament damage.

croat123
04-13-2005, 04:34 AM
nope, he definately had (and still has) ligament damage in his shoulder

he did have rotator cuff surgery - this type of surgery reattaches tendons to bones in the shoulder

tendons are a type of ligament

I wasn't sure whether getting trapped between 2 cars while one of them was speeding was deemed a serious enough injury to come back from.
