If it isn't Federer already, it will be in a year or so.

My guess is Sampras somewhere in his 90s dominance.

Federer needs another 90 weeks to be close to the top of the list.

No, it isn't. It means the longest time at # 1 without a break and that is definitely not Sampras.

Ok, how do you work out the fact that Sampras once held it for 82 weeks and another time for 102 weeks and yes that is less than Connors or Lendl.

Indeed, that's so close between Lendl and Connors.
But Pete is far behind

Nice to keep track of as we go through the year. This is assuming Fed takes a vacation till 4th, right? He has plenty of opportunity to extend this lead through the clay season seeing as how hewitt and roddick are his closest competitors in the entry system.

Connors' streak of 160 in a row was interupted by Borg for one week and then Connors went on to have another streak of 84 in a row. That's 244 out of 245 weeks. Wow.

Thanks for the stats, now I can see that the tennis mag will certainly rank Lendl and Connors very high on their best players over the past 40 yrs, I mean look at these stats its mind boggling ridiculous, amazing really!!!!! I see them certainly as solid top 8 at worst, it does seem like the men will dominate the top ten on this list. :worship: :worship: :worship:

Seeing as Tennis magazine ranked Rafter and didn't even include Kafelnikov, I wouldn't put too much stock into anything they write. Ever again.

Neither would I - I mean, tennis media just Loves Lendl - not.

Federerhingis
04-13-2005, 07:24 AM
Yeah their not including Kafelnikov is quite a sign of disrespect for his results. I mean the guy was quite an accomplished player, 2 slams and an olympic gold, right? Lame really! Now will they place Safin higher than Hewitt, that would be pathetic at this point, I believe they will probably leave Safin out because of his inconsistency.

One of the few things I can agree with jenrios about is the way the media disrepected Lendl throughout his career.

There was the headline in one of the American publications "The Champion No One Loves". He didn't play the media game and they used the old Cold War stereotypes against Lendl when he was coming through, then when he became an American, it only got slightly better.

NATAS81

I agree that American media can be especially biased, and once you're on the side of the fence they dislike, they have the tendancy to yield little compassion from that point forward.

Lendl got it a lot worse than most people when it came to the media.

World Beater , Sampras has the record for most weeks # 1 in total , but not necessarily consecutive weeks .

Hope that helps

Wow, to put Connors 244 out of 255 consecutive weeks as #1 in perspective, Rogi has to be number one till 2010 !!. It's staggering.

Same applies for sampras's 5.5 years (286 weeks in total) as number #1.

85th week this week. Can't lose it before the TMC is finished, i.e. should have 94 weeks. Only needs a few more points (120) to take him through to the end of the year.

I wonder how it was possible for Connors to stay #1 that long? What was the rest of the filed doing at the time....partying?
