Make your predictions for Federer's career (or any other player)!

Yes, another Federer thread!

No, changed my mind, post your career predictions about any player you want..

Recently I have been heavily critisized for my "crazy" predictions of what I think federer will accomplish. Make your own predictions here, how many grand slams? Which grand slams? How many TMS titles? How many years as nr1? How many tournaments? Will he win a real grand slam?

I'll begin with my "crazy" prediction:

8 wimbledon
6 US open
5 Australian open
3 Roland Garros
31 TMS titles
7 Tennis master cup titles
91 titles
8 years as world nr 1
2 real grand slams (calendar or noncalendar)

You can all laught at my predictions if you want, but only if you post your own predictions aswell...

If Sampras and Agassi can win 60 and I consider Federer to be a much bigger talent than both, why not?

makro120

Just needs to keep winning +-10 titles/year for another 6 years...

Should I aim higher?

Don't jinx him!

By the way, your predictions are crazy, but I wish they'd become true if he had 10 years ahead of him to play the game and not be that challenged, which I think it will not happen.

I'm gonna go with more "real" predictions, yet fan-biased:
10 Slams - I don't know exactly how many of each, but I think he'll win them all and will achieve the number of ten slams, I sure am hoping him to break Sampras' record, but it's just so hard. If he takes his chances while he's dominating, he ends 2005 with more than half of his task accomplished.
15 AMS - There are nine every year, and he has 6 already, so not the hardest thing for him for the next three years to do.
7 TMC - You know, that's probably harder than achieving 10 slams and 15 AMS combined as there's just one per season and his reign could end if there's a new enough talented, consistent and spirituous to take his #1 spot and eventually beat him on a regular basis. But that demonstrates how many years I want him to dominate, once again, one more to break Sampras' record, though he won in 2003 when he finished #2.
70 Titles - That IS hard, assuming he has a long career like Agassi, he can do it.
7 years as #1 - Lucky seven to Federer's reign. He can regain his throne after that, also.
1 Grand Slam - In a calendar year, or the Federer Slam. Hopefully add a Golden Slam here, he'll still be good in Beijing.

I know this "Federer's career stats" are biased and unreal, even not likely, but I'd like it to happen. Actually, some are not that unlike to happen if he can keep up his rhythym for at least another two years.

Oh, are that Graf's real stats? If so, so impressive
I can see the 22 slams, but I didn't know about her Tier I results and years as #1, but you also should add a Golden Slam there in Federer's because Graf has one.

Why only 10 if you think federer will have a long career? HE has won 4 already, so only 6 more is really conservative! However I kind of like your other predictions even if they are not as optimistic (yeah, call it "crazy") as mine.

makro120

I mean you think he will win 1 calendar grand slam and that would give him 8 grand slams titles. So in the rest of his 5-10 more years in the top of tennis you think he will only win 2 grand slams?

I am not critisizing you, but I am curious to know why.

steffi won 22 slams and people think rogi dominates the men's tour... how silly of them

For Federer to break Sampras' GrandSlam count, would be quite an accomplishment. Though he's going to have to win at least two of them this year to keep in the hunt.

I say Roger can win a total of at least six singles major titles, at least seven total Masters Shields, and at least four total Masters Cups.

Wimby 7 times

and the USO 4 times
:p He'll beat Sampras' record by one slam.

I dont think Federer has enough years of peak ability left to challange Sampras's slam record. In his later years Sampras won a few slams (particularly Wimbledon 2000) on the back of his serve and volley game and Federer probably wont have that luxury once he loses some speed. Winning each slam a minimum 2 times is a more realistic goal and would definetly put him among best ever discussions.

Federer cannot stay in his present or -04 form forever, he will get older and (at least a couple of times) injured. I think he will win:

2 AO
1 RG :-)
4 W
2 USO

thus nine slams in total. I think he will have claimed 50 ATP titles when he quits tennis at 29 (5/year the remaining years).

I think Safin and Roddick still have some or their best to come. Safin needs to improve his mental strength and Roddick his consistency. Hewitt will not be as successful as these two, I think he cannot get much better. My guess:

Safin
2 AO
1 RG
1 W
2 USO

Roddick
2 AO
0 RG
2 W
3 USO

Hewitt
1 AO
0 RG
1 W
2 USO

This would mean that in the following say seven years, a total of 17 slams out of 28 will be taken by these four guys. (Comparable to 1982-88 when Lendl-Wilander-McEnroe-Edberg took 19 slams out of 28.)

Note: I'm not a Roddick fan - only a fairly pessimistic guy. Federer is my favourite by far when no Swede is on court.

Yep, told you I'm pessimistic didn't I? ;)

Besides, I think Roger can't get better from now on, while Roddick certainly can . And Roddick's game gives him more easy points, an important compensating factor for getting older and losing speed.

"Safin winning Wimbledon ???"

Why not? He made a decent effort (1-3, two lost tiebreaks) against Ivanisevic (who ended up champion) in 2001. As usual with Safin I believe it's a question whether he can improve his mentality and consistency.
