After his fourth round performance in Miami, Gaudio has achieved a career best ranking of #6. He is now the highest ranked argentine, and has a 15-5 record this season. Isn't he great ;)

I was just commenting on his socks. Of course, I like his backhand a lot. It's just that I've not seen him NOT in blue socks, so whenever someone talks about him, that color always sticks out in my mind. To me, if Agassi is to bald head, Gaudio is to blue socks. :D

That's great news! Though I'm usually not paying that much attention to rankings in general. Given that the clay season is coming and that he likes the surface, I'm pretty sure he'll maintain that ranking, and hopefully gets even higher.

Don't forget that he has to defend his RG title to have a realistic chance of being ranked top 5.

I'm sure he can reach n°5 at some point in the claycourt season but if he can keep it after RG, it would be an awesome performance.

I don't really pay alot of attention to the rankings these days, but I am delighted to see Gaudio ranked at 6! he's earned it! Saw his match with Grosjean last week - the backhand was as superb as ever, and he more than matched Grosjean at the net. People tend to laugh when I say that gaston can volley well when he wants to - but every time I've seen him play, he has done so.

I was really hoping the ATP site would put up a video of that hilarious shot between the legs Gaudio attempted vs Agassi at Miami. That's just a classic.

That's a great result for him, he definitely improved his results on the slow hardcourts and of course, had great weeks down here in South America to win Viña del Mar and Buenos Aires. He definitely can be TOP5 during the clay season, but as mentioned he'll have to defend his RG title to maintain it, so it's early to tell.

Honestly, I'd really wish we'd see a different winner of RG this year, but I'm rooting for him to get far, as he's one of the best in this surface.

They only put up winning shots, and that obviously wasn't a winning shot.

well, Gaston has made that shot successfully a few times, I remember against Ferrer last year, and I read he did the same against Hrbaty, but I havent seen that match.

wel tim henman is on number five and you just cant expect him to defend his rolland garros semis performance.. 7-8-9 are moya, nalbandian and coria who all did pretty well in the clay season so they are also defending lots of points.. if gaudio reaches quarters or semis in RG well he really has a good shot into the top five.. but i think he would prefer winning RG again than breaking into the top five.. but hey? if you can have both why not?

And if his level of play declines, will you stop supporting him as well?

What's that I hear? Oh... it's just the gentle hum of a bandwagon arriving.

considering this person also supports Zabaleta, I would say its pretty likely.

The person made a Gaston cheering thread yet there is a chance they haven't been a fan of Gaudio since Gaston was in diapers. The bastard should be hanged for such behaviour.

Would you take the role as executioner?

Here is the reason for scepticism.

You would have given up on Gaudio quite some time ago and I would be still hunting Medvedev.

I still dont see why they shouldnt be allowed to start a Gaudio cheering thread though, everyones different, maybe following Zabaleta depresses them to much.

You're right, everybody's different. But ppl who are really following a guy like Mariano, who really know how he is and can be, simply can't be depressed! He's a true cure against depression IMO. :)

Good on gaudio. Before he won RG, people talked down about him and even now, at no 6, he is still not really appreciated. What does he have to do? Nothing, because he isn´t trying to prove anything anyway, imo, he´s just playing his tennis and the titles and rankings are coming along accordingly.
And who cares if people are jumping on a bandwagon? I mean if you see him win RG and you like him, go for it, support him, he deserves it! :)
