i wasn't sure if Rafa would pull out of this tournament or not. (personally i think he should because otherwise he might tire before the more important clay tournies like Monaco and Barcelona), but for the moment it looks like he's going. The singles draw has come out, he's seeded 3 and he plays....JC FERRERO! :banghead:
He's in the third quarter of the draw...here it is:

(7) Andreev, I. (RUS)
(WC) Vicente, F.

Starace, P. (ITA)
Calatrava, A. (ESP)

Kohlschreiber, P. (GER)
Garcia-Lopez, G. (ESP)

Ferrero, JC. (ESP)
(3) Nadal, R. (ESP)

the number 2 seed is Gonzalez and he could meet him in the semi.

VAMOS RAFA!! :bounce:

Still, if Rafa wins tomorrow, I guess he won't lose any sleep over this! ;)

Rafa should pull out even if he doesnt win..(And I think he will..considering they play a best of 5 sets right?) Wont wanna risk being burnt out when clay season is coming.. :)

Keep breathing Em!!!! pffffffff........uh....pfffffffffff.....uh........ .pfffffff.... ;)

Yeah Evelyn, I might agree with you here! Otherwise he might miss Monte Carlo or Barcelona... (and he can't miss Barcelona, cause I'm there!!!! )

Yeah I agree he should pull out, what's the point in playing Valencia with a jet lag and after playing loads of matches in Miami? And like Susan from VR.com says, most of his ranking points are from optional events. The only way his ranking will rise dramatically is if he does well in required events...

So Rafa honey, go back to Mallorca, lie on the beach for a few days! :)

A bad draw, but the confidence level of the two is totally different. Rafa is on fire as of late, despite his loss today. I don't think Ferrero will know what hit him.

Too bad these are my #2 and #3 faves. (Nadal being #2 ;))

his first round match is on Wednesday, which lowers the possibility of Rafael pulling out of the tourney.

...............My heart tells me I should cheer for JC :*(

I'm hoping for JC too - Rafa needs a rest!

Didn't think he would pull out because it is in Spain - anywhere else, I think he would have, but definitely not there.

I also think he should re-think doubles a the bigger tournaments. Maybe one of the reasons he tired out yesterday was because he was playing doubles too...who knows...but it is a thought.

Thanks for the pictures...very nice. :-)

And very nice to see Guga back. He's a great guy...good to his fans, great with charity, has some good ideas for the game of tennis, popular with the players...I can go on and on. And one of the best clay courters ever. Was very sad watching him having so many problems - even after his surgery. He never seemed comfortable on the court after that. Hopefully this surgery is a success - and from what I've read it is.

And looks like he's growing his hair out - missed those wild curls...lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel sorry for JC too - last year he was sick, injuries, but really thought he would come back this year. Very sad... :-(

And Rafa needs to rest for Monte Carlo...lol!...so hoping JC can come back here...(though I hate rooting against Rafa - feels weird!).

Hey Em, how about Rafa's play as of late? MUY BIEN.

yeah! he's playing phenomenally!! hope this can continue throughout the clay season...don't want him peaking too early or getting tired/injured!!! He has a huge chance to win this Valencia tournament I think.

I cannot believe he anhilated JC the way he did!!! i was expecting a close match, even for JC to win! but 57 min is just...

i feel really sorry for JC to be beaten like this in his own tournament, first round...must be pretty humiliating  ...obviously he just wasn't good enough...I read somewhere where he said he didn't feel comfortable and made heaps of errors. In any case, it's good for Rafa!!! now he plays GGL :banghead:

Agreed. He seems to overdo it, I just hope he takes care of himself enuff.

Wouldn't want him injured or not 100% for French Open, would we??

They dun show this Valencia events 'ere so I'm gonna live reading it from the net :crying2:

04-07-2005, 03:17 PM
yeah! i'm watching the livescores now too! he's also up a break 2-0 in the second...i guess these easy matches aren't really tiring him that much...probably no different to a practice session. I do feel sorry for GGL though...he's also getting knocked out of his own tournament :( oh well, vamos Rafa! :bounce:

It's no big deal.

Yes, Monte Carlo is more important. There are other big tournaments like Barcelona that deserve more attention too. Nadal has so many options that this one won't factor.
