Yes, I know Travis. What would you like to know about him?

Travis and Graydon just played Miami together, but they will be playing with different partners for the next few tournaments. Travis is playing his next tournament with Rick Leach and I think they are in Valencia.

As for Graydon, which girlfriend are you referring to?

I would never call Graydon a whore. Period. End of discussion. That's not funny.

Back to Travis... He is from a tennis playing family in Georgia and I think his dad was a coach. He lives in the Atlanta area now. He went to university in Oregon, but I'll have to go look up the name since I can't remember it at the moment. I met Travis when he started playing doubles with JMG (LA, 2003 - they won their first tournament together). He seems to be kind of quiet and laid back and a little bit shy. I met his girlfriend this year in San Jose, she is going to be traveling with him for most of this season. He's currently ranked in the top 50 in Doubles, and he's pretty good, in my opinion. What I know of him, he is a good guy.

Glad to hear that gf  You know I am very protective of players and their reps, especially the ones I know. Don't even want the idea of that out there for someone who doesn't deserve it. I know people say that about some players like Ancic and a few others, but I always take it with a grain of salt. I'll track down the disk and post them in here later. Sorry that Eowyn and I kind of hijacked your thread. Maybe we should start another one, a Travis Parrott cheering thread, or a Graydon and Travis thread (even if they don't play together as much anymroe).

Jim Thomas was born on 24 September, 1974. He will be 31 this September.

Travis Parrott was born on 16 August, 1980. He will be 25 this August.

This is irrelevant to what happened. Travis was VERY rude, and refused to shake Jim's hand at the end. Whether or not this was related to Jim hitting Travis is unimportant. Jim hit Travis by mistake, and apologised twice.

In fact i don't know the truth, thank you for tell me that.

Drew, you weren't there, you don't know what happened, you only have one person's side of the story, so please give it a rest. Travis is one of the most laid back people on tour and for him to refuse to shake Jim's hand, he must have been really pissed about something. I understand your belief that your hero Jim can do no wrong, I used to feel the same way about JanMike, but some of your comments in the scoring thread yesterday were as classless as you believe Travis' behavior to be.

Deboogle!.
07-11-2005, 04:58 PM
Well, I was the one who told Drew about it. And I don't know any of these players from Adam, nor did I particularly care who won, nor did I even know anything about any of them before I saw the match yesterday. So I feel pretty comfortable saying I didn't have a bias when I watched it. Jim tried repeatedly to shake Travis's hand - both before and after they shook hands with the ump - and each time Travis just sort of turned his back.

And I really did find Travis's behavior to be extremely rude and inexplicable. perhaps there was a reason or some history between them. Yes it is true that Jim accidentally pelted Travis with a ball but he immediately apologized for it, twice I think. I've seen a lot of cold handshakes and stuff, but this was just an outright refusal to acknowledge his presence.

So I dunno, as far as first impressions go, he made a pretty bad one on me. Which actually makes me sad, b/c I like to support as many US players as possible, but sportsmanship is a big thing for me.

Fee, you weren't either, you don't either, you do too, so please give it a rest too. Jim did nothing wrong, so for Travis to refuse to shake his hand, it validates the statement I made-it was rude. My comments in the scoring thread? Such as what?

Deboogle!.
07-12-2005, 02:04 AM
OKAY.

So I rewatched a repeat of the end of the match tonight just to pay really really extra special close attention to what happened. And I need to amend. so that is my fault.

They DID shake hands. Very very quickly, and I can see how I would've missed it while I was typing on here. But AFTER that, Jim appears to have been trying to talk to Travis and Travis kept turning his head away. So I don't know what that was about but they DID shake hands. So I take back much of what I said and I am so sorry for creating some of the confusion :smash:

I asked Jordan about it today. He said they did shake hands, and there was no problem at all in the match. Has no idea what there could be any fuss about.

Deboogle!.
07-12-2005, 03:46 AM
Well ok. It did look like it from tv, but obviously, you couldn't hear anything and the angle was such that you could not see their faces.

The rest was my fault SORRY:(:(:(

07-12-2005, 04:17 AM
Its no big deal Deb, we all make mistakes and TV coverage doesn't always make you feel like you are really there. The bigger mistake here was made by someone else in this thread who went on a silly name-calling bender before he did a little bit more research (and all he had to do was send an email to one of the players involved). I'm sure all of Travis' fans are looking forward to his apology.

I can tell you Jordan didn't even dwell on it for a minute because I immediately changed the subject to how happy I was to see him again, etc, etc. It's no big deal. :D

I try to understand what happened… But I still got confused. Someone told me that Travis refused shake hands, and he was so rude and childish also he is prick. I didn’t understand about that…My first impression of Travis---this is a good guy, and he was friendly to everyone. So I didn’t believe that. Because someone also told me He likes Travis too. I was angry the day before yesterday…if I did something wrong, I’m sorry.

I was watching the match and talking to Andrew, and I didn't realize that what I was saying would literally end up EVERYWHERE.

I THOUGHT that Jim and Travis did not shake hands. It was VERY quick and I was probably just looking away. Yesterday I watched a repeat of the match and I paid better attention and saw what really happened. it DID look on the TV that AFTER the handshake there was some hostility there, but obviously, I wasn't there nor could I hear what was happening, so it may have been (and sounds like it was) absolutely nothing.

I will be more careful talking about stuff like this online at the spur of the moment during a match. I'm not used to everything I say on MSN being posted in like 5 places lol.

Cindy, your new signature is way too big. Here's an article about Travis Parrott...

Story last updated at 9:47 PM on July 14, 2005

Magill: Parrott making noise in the pros

On Thursday morning, I was reading on the Internet the latest U.S. pro doubles rankings and was pleased to see former Georgia standout Travis Parrott listed at No. 3, behind Stanford's Bryan twins, Bob and Mike, co-ranked at No. 1.

And guess who should drop by to say hello at my office?

None other than Travis Parrott.

"I'll be damned!" I exclaimed. "I was just reading about you, Travis. What brings you back to Athens? I thought you'd be playing at a tournament somewhere."

He replied: "I will be in an ATP tournament in Indianapolis Monday, but I'm in Athens for a family reunion with my brother Christopher and his bride of a few days."

Christopher is the oldest of tennis entrepreneur Brian Parrott's four sons. He's a graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., and now a professional artist with a studio in Athens.

Christopher's younger brothers (Jeremy, Michael and Travis) all graduated from Georgia. Travis starred in tennis, Jeremy and Michael in golf. In fact, Travis and Jeremy both played on NCAA championship teams in 1999.

Travis, who won the NCAA doubles title with Matias Boeker in 1999, is now making a name for himself on the ATP doubles circuit.

He turned professional in the summer of 2002, starting out in USTA Futures doubles tournaments. Late in the summer, he won his first ATP title (with partner Jan-Michael Gambill) at the Mercedes-Benz Cup in Los Angeles. (they actually won that title in 2003, not 2002)

In 2004, he reached the finals of the big Legg-Mason tournament in Washington, playing with Russian Dimitri Tursunov. In the semifinals, they upset Rick Leach and Brian MacPhee.

He also reached the Wimbledon third round playing with Vince Spadea, and the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open with South African Robbie Koenig.

This year has been his best.

He reached the Australian Open third round with Aussie Ashley Fisher. He also won a tournament in Miami with former NCAA doubles champion Graydon Oliver (Illinois), upsetting Mardy Fish and James Blake in the process. And just last week in the International Hall of Fame tourney in Newport, R.I., he and Oliver lost in the finals to Jordan Kerr of Australia and former Stanford star Jim Thomas 7-6, 7-6.

The Bryan twins currently are a fixture as the U.S. Davis Cup team's doubles tandem, but captain Patrick McEnroe has informed Travis that he may be picked as a practice player with the U.S. team - a major honor.

Travis' father Brian (former doubles partner of U.S. Davis Cup star and captain Tom Gorman at Seattle University) taught him to play at an early age.

His late grandfather was the famous Harold Parrott, sports editor of the Brooklyn Eagle and later the longtime traveling secretary of the Brooklyn Dodgers, who moved his family to California when the Dodgers located in Los Angeles.

He certainly would be mighty proud of Travis.

Hi andy!
i read an article about doubles from my local tennis magazine, they say doubles waste time. so that's why no body comes for the doubles during the TMC shanghai.
so andy will you be a doubles player? or you will choose singles? i think you will be a doubles player, i guess.

What's going on?! see, he lost the game in the first round, this year 4 him, seems so hard. Did you know, he played better last year?! What;s wrong?!
Well Cindy some of it is the luck of the draw. Travis and his partner in this Tournament had to start out by playing the team that was seeded #3 in the Tournament so in his case it was an unlucky draw. Also I think it would be nice if Travis could find a Doubles partner that would play a number of Tournaments with him. That is one of the reasons the Bryans are so good. They are a team all the time. But, of course, they are also brothers and it is hard for other players to find someone who will always enter Doubles with them.

Cindy19
04-13-2006, 11:18 AM
but he played well last year, he was in the 4th round in US open, but this year, for him---secomd round seems to be hard to get. yes, he has too many partners, maybe he should learning sth from Paul Hanley. but you know his ranking, perhaps it is not easy 4 him to find someone who will always play with him.

Yes the Bryans are special ;) It is just hard sometimes for players to match up their Tournament schedules and there aren't a lot of players that only play Doubles anyway  So it is probably just hard for Travis to find anyone to be a Doubles partner with him for any length of time

Well there are some here and there who are good enough but they choose to play doubles (Bryans come to mind, especially Bob, but I suppose they're in a unique position), so I just wasn't sure. Did he ever try? I just don't remember ever seeing him in any kind of singles draw in the past few years...

Travis plays Singles qualies here and there. He came onto the tour as Jan-Mike's doubles partner and they won the first tournament they played together. Travis never really had a chance to work his Singles game through the circuit after college because he was already on the tour playing Doubles with Jan-Mike. He's such an aggressive, fearless doubles player it makes me curious what kind of singles player he would be, but he just never had the chance to develop I suppose.

Deboogle!.
04-16-2006, 03:31 PM
well I mean, how many younger doubles specialists are there from anywhere? Why play doubles if you have a shot at playing singles? The money, attention, all that is all much much better. So if any guy thinks he has a shot at playing singles and doing well, he's better off being an average singles player than a good doubles player for the most part - a guy like Bob Bryan who has what he has with Mike is different. Bob could probably be a top 50-100 singles player but he's a really famous doubles team and #1 in the world winning slams and tons of titles. Other than a situation like that, might as well at least try singles :)

So even if Travis found a good Doubles player that would be willing to enter a Tournament with him the two of them probably wouldn't be able to get into the Tournament. Since Travis' low ranking would pull down the combined ranking the team wouldn't be ranked high enough to get in the Tournament together. Oh course, the
Bryans are family so that makes things just great for them ;) I'm really thankful for the Bryans when Davis Cup time rolls around because they can always be counted on to do a great job :bigclap:

Since Travis' low ranking would pull down the combined ranking the team wouldn't be ranked high enough to get in the Tournament together. Well, it depends - on the partner and how high his ranking is, and what the cutoff is at a particular tournament. Part of the problem is that there are very few tournaments with advance entry for doubles, so the guys don't know beforehand if they'll get in - they just have to show up and hope they can find a partner whose ranking would be high enough for them to get in. This happened to Travis at.... I think it was Indian Wells? He didn't get into the draw even though he was at the tourney and all that, just missed the cutoff. It's really crappy. He could show up at a tourney, maybe even with a consistent partner in mind but then a couple singles players with decent rankings might decide to play doubles that week and it might bump a couple doubles players out.

2008 has been a great season for Travis. He started the year being almost outside of top 100, but then was able to break top 50 in the end of the year. Travis won 2 challengers in Mexico (San Luis Potosi and Leon) and reached Valencia final with Polasek. He didn`t have any more great results until he won Vancouver challenger (with Butorac) and lost in Los Angeles final (with Bopanna) and Washington semifinal (with Polasek)
In october Travis and Filip came to my home city Saint-Petersburg and won that tournament. They played really well, as I saw their matches with Elgin/Kudryavtsev and Bopanna/Mirnyi. Travis has also been a really nice and friendly guy. After this success, he and Filip reached Aachen CH final.
I`m sure, Travis and Polasek would be a great pair in 2009.

I got his picture from a fan who took the pictures in Saint-Petersburg. Also, another friend saw him in Melbourne, he won the first round, but pity, lost in the second.
Yep, one thing i am agree with you is, they would be a great pair in 2009, and i am looking forward to see him again here in Shanghai.
By the way, havent been here for ages, didnt know you posted something about Travis on my birthday =)

Travis had surgery on both of his hips. He hopes to return at the Los Angeles tournament in July. He will have a protected ranking to use to help him get into tournaments when he comes back.

Get well soon Travis. :)

(Cindy, can you post that info to his FB fan page, I'm not a member. Thanks).
