Agassi won't play and I doubt if Roddick will, but there should be enough withdrawls so Mariano can make the main draw.

I agree, I don't think Roddick will come. He should, but I don't think he came last year as well.

I don't think it's fair to look at last year to determine whether he will play. There was the fire in Rome, then in his match there, he tweaked his knee. Assuming his wrist heals ok and whatnot, I actually do think he will show up in Rome and Hamburg. But, we'll see. Maybe it's just my wishful thinking:o

Well I just read that Lleyton and Andy already have booked their hotel rooms. So, it seems as if Andy will play here this year.

he says he's going to...but yeah, we'll see. Would depend on what he does in Rome, I would guess.

Thomas Muster has made more trips to Wimbledon than Agassi has at Hamburg.

Philipp Petzschner - this guy is shit on clay but he has won the German Championships and got a WC because of it.

Does anyone know what SE means in the Entry list - another category of entrant just above the WC's & Q's? Selected Entrant????? HUH???

Does anyone know what SE means in the Entry list - another category of entrant just above the WC's & Q's? Selected Entrant????? HUH???It means Special Exemption - it's reserved for players who make the semifinals of the tournament the prior week - it can only be used for tourneys the same or lower level. In other words, someone who made the SF at Estoril cannot get into Rome via Special Exemption, but someone who made Rome SF might be able to get into Hamburg Special Exemption, or someone who made the SF at Hamburg might be able to get into St. Poelten on a Special Exemption.

Sorry for my not-very-helpful explanation but maybe it was a little helpful :p

Yes, Hamburg is already promoting Agassi's return to Rothenbaum... so there must be some truth about it :)

I've had this discussion with GWH earlier last week (when Monaco played in Munich) and he was saying the same if I remember correctly. However, I'm not completely sure about the "levels" as it worked for Sanguinetti playing a SF in Vienna to get a SE to Madrid TMS the following week, to name a rare example.

However, for somebody who didn't know what SE is, your explanation was helpful for sure and I wouldn't worry about it :)

True, only believe it when he is on the court ;)

Would be quite an awesome field then :)

However, I'm not completely sure about the "levels" as it worked for Sanguinetti playing a SF in Vienna to get a SE to Madrid TMS the following week, to name a rare example. For a player to get a special exempt, he must meet two requirements: 1) be entered in the qualifying tournament for the next week's event; & 2) still be playing in the first tournament at the time of the qualifying draw for the next tournament (usually Friday). It is not, as some people think, an extra wild card for the tournament organizers to give out. (There was quite a bit of complaining in the Estoril forum about Robredo not receiving a SE until I explained this key point--& the fact that he met neither of the requirements.)

As for levels, the second tournament in most cases must be the same level or one level lower or higher. (examples: Week 1=ISG/AMS, Week 2=AMS; 1=IS/ISG, 2=ISG; 1:IS/AMS; 2:IS). The rules are more complicated for challengers; geography of the two tournaments is taken into account.

Thanks, Smucav. Incredibly good explanation exactly for what I had to know about the levels! :yeah:

"one level lower or higher"... that's the key point and the answer I was looking for! :) :worship:

It's not uncommon for the home boys to receive a WC so why everyone is bitching about the selection I dunno
