they show her way more than lindsay davenport and venus williams combined and they are both american, heck you could throw in the coverage of a couple of other americans and the total would still be less than sharapova time. i guess they have to cater to all the people that want to see skinny blond chicks.

Anyways, ESPN's coverage blows. This is nothing new. I hardly even bother to watch even if I know that matches are on TV. I can't be bothered to sit through an hour of a match I don't care about with players that I'd rather not watch in the hopes of seeing a score flash on court 600 where I'd like to be :p I wish that TSN would carry the same feed that they carry during the clay masters series for all of the AMS. All the world loves you, Maria! We blow your signature after victory kiss right back atcha!

I mean, Mary Jo, she really is a teen sensation. Do you know anyone in the history of the game that has ever played as well as she does and is as beautiful? She's only 17. What a bright future this young lady has. She was picked by Blah Blah magazine as one of the teens who would change the world and she really has. Don't you think Mary Jo? There's her father and coach....She was also coached by...who coached Lindsay Davenport. You can see that they have the same heavy ground strokes...She gave a car to charity, didn't she? What a great humanitarian. You won't see her mother at many of these matches because she gets sooo nervous for her little one when she plays. Well she's not that little, is she? She's 6' 2" and she may not be done growing yet. I don't know how she got so tall. Her parents aren't that tall. Speaking of her mother, wasn't it the cutest scene when she was trying to get her mother on the cell phone after she won Wimbledon? Her mom was in a plane coming to London to celebrate with her. hahaha It's just a wonderful Cinderella story. I can't stop telling it and I know the American people, the world, in fact, can't get enough of it. When she was very young, she and her dad walked here from Siberia and lived in a shanty in the remote village of Bradenton on the Gulf Coast of the wild untamed swamps of Florida...

Again, WE LOVE YOU MARIA!

Even though I didn't agree with them showing in Sharapova match over the Dementieva match yesterday, tocay's lineup is very enticing.

It will be fun to see Henin-Hardenne vs Sharapova; Agassi vs Gaudio; and then the battle of the unwilling Williams. Even though I'm crushed I won't be able to see Federer playing, today's lineup is

Well MissMoJo, the Russians are here to stay. They won three of the four slams last year. But, the one Russian who has risen above all the rest is Maria Sharapova, current Wimbledon champ and #3 in in the world. What makes someone a star, MissMoJo? I think Maria has that intangible quality that sets her apart from everyone else. What's happened to her since winning Wimbledon is phenomenal. It must be like living a dream. Wow, this is a sarcastic thread.

I think, personally, that they should put a Sharapova or random American match on and hype it like crazy, and then at the end, without a commercial break or interview, switch really fast to an actually good match like possibly Ivan/RAFA, which isn't going to be on ESPN ( ), and say "well, if you thought that was good, check this out."

Because obviously, ESPN isn't going to change. And neither are we.

Can you imagine them handling, say, an especially great looking guy tennis player in the same way? Nope. That's what really bothers me. This is more or less what I said to somebody a little while ago. It's best for the tour that Justine doesn't walk back on to court after a 6 month layoff and beat the second best player this year. Well, third, if you want to put Lindsay over her, which I would make sense now that I think about it ;)

Still... I think Justine is better than Kim, so it's a little frustrating that Kim was able to do it and not Justine. But Justine already did it in Athens, so I guess I shouldn't be greedy for her

How many times does TC have to ask for the score of the Maria Sharapova/Justine Henin match before someone gives it to her? Two times I guess. ;) TC dear Sharapova d. Henin 6-1 6-7(6) 6-2. Maria served for the match at 6-1 5-4 40-love and choked it away. :o  But the third set was never in doubt. But it's fair to say Maria struggles to close out matches against the top players. I hope she doesn't become a choke artist because that would take alot out of me. :bigcry: :banghead:

Hi Tennnisgirl7. :wavey: It's true Davenport drubbed Sharapova in the Indian Wells semifinal. But Sharapova beat Davenport in the Tokyo final and I ask you which is a bigger match the Indian Wells semifinal or the Tokyo final? I think it's the Tokyo final. I think I have seen every match that girl has ever played

So they either show the Americans, or perve over girls they think are hot.

Ummm, yeah. Have you ever noticed that when ESPN shows the random people in the stands they're all women with really low cut shirts?

I'm sure ESPN has a huge following at the All Men Prisons.

Times Online:

One definite antidote to being trapped in a dream is Sharapova’s scream. There is so much to relish about the way the teenager rips into a tennis ball but it is high time that someone in authority told her to cut out the shrieking that is straining everyone’s patience, not least that of her opponent.

That's a shame. She can hit great winners after setting herself up with short balls from the slice backhand.

I don't know what happened in her match against Kim. I really didn't pay attention and apparently I didn't need to for the low quality as I laid out for you all in the numbers above in my previous post.

She was last year the world #1, barring top former superstars were injured.

Her game when on is as good as anybodys, and because of that she can take down anyone in the top five excluding Clijsters. Kimmy is head and shoulders above every one at this point.

Yay Kim! :woohoo: Couldn't happen to a nicer Belgian

And Jim has the right to cheer for Mardy. Fish had played a great year making finals (losing to heavy serving Roddick) and was expected to do well in Athens!

Could we get a list of why people hate Maria Sharapova so much?

I don't hate Maria.

The person who started this thread was writing about ESPNs new Maria Show in lieu of other tennis matches. I took his comment to be a general complaint about ESPNs market/financial/popularity/eye candy driven production decisions as opposed to showing high quality and varied tennis matches.

This complaint has nothing to do with Maria in particular. It's the same as when ESPN used rain delays as an excuse to show the same match of Andy beating Roger three times in three different consecutive broadcast windows instead of showing Andy vs Roger, David's semi, and the Andy vs David final. It's the same as when ESPN showed a tape delayed Venus vs Serena quarter as 12:30AM and REbroadcast the SAME quarter the next day when the men were in live action. It's the same as when they spent one entire tournament showing Andy and Andre live in the day time slot and REpeating the same match during prime time instead of showing other matches or live tennis.

It's infuriating to a hard core tennis fan whether it's Maria, Sophia, Tom, Dick, Harry, Johnny, etc. We are capable of seeing more than one tennis player in a tournament without our heads exploding from over load.

No hate for Maria here. Just irritation at ESPNs knuckleheadedness.
