Not even Philippoussis in his present state could lose to the taller Rochus brother - remember that Christophe was also a lucky charm for him when he came into Wimbledon last year on a terrible low, and beat him in the opening round for his first ATP victory since January? Interesting that Jolly Ollie beat him twice last year, though I suspect injuries played a part in the 1 and 0 scoreline in Athens.

If it's just an ankle twist, that can be overcome quickly.

Something to keep an eye on. A sure doubter in R2

You are probably kidding but Christophe improved his best ranking last week. He was ranked 65 in 2000.
Now he's at 64 and qualified for this event, not bad. No time to retire. ;)

Indeed those were crazy. In fact, too crazy that Amanda realized she missed a decimal place and abandoned the bet because of just that.

Congrats to Mark. But for those who are saying that Christophe is overrated or whatever, he beat Mark at the Sunrise Challenger 67 63 62 quite recently. It must have been an accident ;)

The win might have something to do with....

Florent latest to take on Scud
Mike Sheahan

MELBOURNE tennis club coach Andrew Florent has won a two-month trial as an assistant to Mark Philippoussis.

Florent, 34, took leave from his job as a joint professional at Royal South Yarra on the invitation of Philippoussis's father and official coach, Nick.
He left Melbourne earlier this week to join the Philippoussis camp in Miami, where Mark is playing in the Masters series.

Florent, once the world's No. 1 ranked junior, is building an excellent reputation as a coach in only his second year since quitting the international doubles circuit.

Tennis Australia's Peter Johnston said Florent would suit the Victorian, who is trying to resurrect a career that had stalled badly in the past 12 months.

"They go back a long way," Johnston said. "Florie has all the things that Mark needs at the moment. He's someone who is only recently off the tour.

"He will spend a lot of time on court with Mark, he's someone who can train with him, someone to keep him relaxed and positive.

"He's very fit, very positive."

Florent also will act as a scout, studying opponents.

He is the latest in a long list of coaches to try to meet the demanding standards of the Philippoussis camp. They include former head coach Peter McNamara and assistants Todd Viney and conditioning coach Brett Stephens.

Florent, from Mulgrave, concentrated on doubles in a professional career that started in 1990. He won three ATP titles, earning career prizemoney of $1.4 million. He had a highest ranking of 13 in April 2001.

Johnston said the pair went back about 10 years, with Florent managing a team, including Philippoussis, at a satellite tournament in Canberra.

"Florie's done some good work with juniors and we (Tennis Australia) have used him as a specialist coach."
