Me too! I just started paying attention to him recently, lol, but he's slowly creeping up the list of guys I like to support. :D

well u made a good choice!! I've supported him since 2003...he's a really nice guy! good to see he won his first match! sigue así david!!! :bounce:

03-25-2005, 09:44 PM
David is through to the next round. He had lost the first set to Malisse 3-6, and when it was 5-5 in the second, something happened with Malisse and David goes through on a walkover according to the site. I don't know what the deal with Malisse is, but next he plays the winner of Nalbandian/Acasuso.

03-25-2005, 09:45 PM
congratulations to david! i really want to know what happened with malisse

03-26-2005, 12:04 PM
yeah same here...but I'm glad he got through!!! next round will be tough...but let's hope he can still do well!!! VAMOS DAVID!

03-28-2005, 09:00 AM
yay! he got past Nalbandian and is now into the 4th round!! that's a really great achievement for him. Now he plays Ferrero which is not impossible...but I hate it when 2 Spaniards have to meet :banghead:

Ferrer is through to the quarters.

03-30-2005, 09:58 AM
yeah! what great news!! he really deserves this...he hasn't had a lot of good results and now to finally get to the quarters of a tms is really awesome...I'm so happy!!! :bounce: now he plays hrbaty...will be tough...but if david's on a roll, who knows what can happen?! AMUNT XIQUET!!!

03-30-2005, 10:03 AM
btw just thought i'd post the H2H with hrbaty here:

2-1 Hrbaty

2004 Hamburg, Clay, R32 Ferrer 6-0 6-3
2003 St. Petersburg, Hard, R32 Hrbaty 7-5 6-2
2003 Auckland, Hard, QF, Hrbaty 7-5 6-3

I think Ferrer wouldn't have been have been happy winning the match against Malisse like that, but he took advantage of the break.

It'll be tough for him, but it's not like he doesn't know Hrbaty plays.

03-30-2005, 09:42 PM
Ferrer beat Hrbaty in straight sets today :)

03-31-2005, 05:53 AM
yeah...how cool is that! :woohoo:

i think making this thread has given him luck savestheday! :yeah:

D. FERRER/D. Hrbaty
6‑2, 6‑3
An interview with:

(Through translation)

THE MODERATOR: Ladies and gentlemen, David Ferrer.

Q. How much of a surprise is this? I mean, you've never really done that well on the hard courts.

DAVID FERRER: I'm very surprised. I played well in Hamburg, but I wasn't expecting to do so well in one of the Masters.

I'm very happy.

Q. Hamburg was clay, right?

Q. Are you good amigos with Rafael Nadal?

Q. Talk about the last time you played him.

DAVID FERRER: Yes, we're friends. We've played and I won 7‑5 in the third. I hope to play against Rafael, because that way at least a Spaniard will go on in the tournament.

Q. No Spaniard has ever won here. Moya and Bruguera made it to the finals. You could be the first Spaniard to win here. That would be a thrill, obviously.

DAVID FERRER: I would sign on right away, and if it's not me, at least it will be Rafael; at least it will be a Spaniard.

Q. Did you have three matchpoints against Rafy in Stuttgart?

DAVID FERRER: (In English) Three match balls for him. 5‑4 in the third set. After, I won 7‑5 in the third.

Q. What happened, did he choke, did he play bad, or you lifted your game?

DAVID FERRER: It could have gone either way. It was 6‑2, 5‑3 and it could have gone either way.

Q. Today's match, it seemed like you were muy contento to just hit the ball back. You weren't really going for anything. Were you just content to wait for Hrbaty to make mistakes?

DAVID FERRER: Yes, Hrbaty is a rock. It would be easier for me to play defensively, just keeping the rhythm, keeping the play.

Q. Last question for now, do you feel like you have a weapon, or is your weapon your legs and your defense?

DAVID FERRER: Yeah, I depend on my legs. My legs are a big strength. I depend on being physically active. I trained two years in Valencia.

Q. So that's where you learned your defense?

Q. Would this be a happy birthday for you if you went on to win this?

DAVID FERRER: Yes (laughing). If I win, drinks are on me.

yeah...how cool is that! :woohoo:

i think making this thread has given him luck savestheday! :yeah:

lol! I think so too! I'm so torn between him and Rafa though, I support them both! Hopefully they'll both play well and it'll be a good match :)

04-01-2005, 10:48 AM
i know...tell me about it!!! hopefully, as u say, it'll just be a good match! i THINK rafa might have the edge, but u never know. it's still so great for David...and i've just seen that he'll move up to 32 in the rankings even if he loses this match...so good for him!!! :D

04-01-2005, 09:34 PM
David lost today 4-6, 3-6 to Nadal. Nadal was controlling the match from the first points and had a 4-0 lead in the first set, but David fought back and fought for the whole match. A lot of the games went to deuce and he just couldn't break back enough times to level the match. Good result for him though overall :)

04-02-2005, 12:31 PM
awww yeah i saw some footage of them at the end...david was very nice in defeat i thought...i'm sure he did way better than he was expecting and he can take a lot of confidence from getting to the semis of a masters on hard. hope he has a great clay season!!!

04-02-2005, 02:06 PM
David's seeded 5 in Valencia and will play Julien Benneteau in the first round! vamos David!

04-05-2005, 05:23 PM
David won his first round match against Benneteau 6-4, 6-1 :) Vamos!

04-07-2005, 11:37 AM
yeah! now he plays Labadze...he should hopefully beat him!!! aupa!!

04-07-2005, 09:24 PM
David beat Labadze today 6-3, 6-4 and now plays Alberto Martin in the next round!

04-08-2005, 12:21 PM
yeah! I think he can win there too!! then he'll be into the semis!!! vamos david!!! :bounce:

04-09-2005, 01:02 PM
David beat Beto and now plays Costa in the semis!!! vamos David!

04-09-2005, 09:56 PM
David beat Costa and now plays Andreev in the FINAL!!!

David won his match today against Seppi 6-3, 6-3.

Next he plays Zabaleta.

04-14-2005, 03:56 AM

04-14-2005, 11:13 AM
they're starting to play now!!! hope he can win!!! vamos!!

04-14-2005, 12:26 PM
I think David must've retired cos on the scoreboard it shows Zabaleta as leading 6-3 0-1 and then at the bottom it says winner: M. Zabaleta  anyone know what happened to David?!

04-14-2005, 12:50 PM
It's strange because in Espn (they was showing the match) said that Mariano retired with a foot injury

Ok is official, from MC website: D Ferrer (ESP) d M Zabaleta (ARG) 36 10 Ret (foot)

04-14-2005, 01:49 PM
oh!! that's weird!! on the results part of the live scoreboard it's still showing zabaleta d. ferrer! well it's great for David then!! sad for Mariano...

04-14-2005, 04:04 PM
Yes zabaleta retired as soon as the treatment guy came out, no further play or attempted play. Ferrer is lucky because he was going to lose, LUCKY BOY!

04-14-2005, 10:19 PM
David plays Coria tomorrow.

Good luck!

04-15-2005, 11:08 AM
yeah...was a lucky escape for David since he'd lost the first set...poor Mariano. But anyway, now it's Coria! :scared: hope David can do well!!! aupa!

04-15-2005, 01:41 PM
omg! 6-3 2-1 up with a break against Coria!! http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/crazy/sport40.gif

04-15-2005, 01:53 PM
Come on,Ferrer! :bounce:

04-15-2005, 03:29 PM
David won the first set, but couldn't take the match. He lost to Coria 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.

Good result for David in another TMS though :) Quarters here, and semis in Miami... he's improving a lot this year!

04-16-2005, 12:54 PM
yes...i think he should be able to win, but i don't know...it's a shame for Fernando tho...he keeps getting bad draws too :( anyway, vamos David en Barcelona!

04-16-2005, 01:15 PM
What a draw for David

Vamos!!! :bigclap:

A very difficult match for Froggy against Gaudio, but Ferrer has improved a lot from what I have seen this year, he did push Gaudio in their last match, and now he's at home and that should help him.

04-22-2005, 11:14 AM
alas, it was not to be

anyone know why he's pulled out of Estoril? hopefully it's just cos he wants a break

04-23-2005, 03:12 PM
Hi everybody,

I also like David a lot, I saw him play in Monte Carlo and he was really good!
Do you know anything about him? Does he speak english?

04-23-2005, 04:03 PM

I haven't heard anything as to why, but I'm sure that's it. He's been performing so well in the larger tournaments, maybe he's just taking a rest before Rome and Hamburg so he can continue that trend :)

04-23-2005, 05:15 PM
Here are some pictures from Monte Carlo at his matches against Seppi and Coria.

04-24-2005, 01:00 PM

His draw for Hamburg... I am not a fan. I like WAY too many players in his section. In the second round he plays Federer/Verdasco, in the third round possibly Robredo. *sigh*

05-08-2005, 06:28 AM
nice pic thanks Sjoukje!!

has he just changed to diadora this year? i know before he used to wear adidas, then i thought he changed to lotto...i don't really like these tight shirts tho...a bit weird...

yeah, his hamburg draw is not great...but hope he can do his best as usual. AUPA DAVID!!!

05-08-2005, 09:55 AM
Don't know if he changed to Diadora this year.... I do know the shirt is too tight.. well, for him anyway.....

http://images.sportsline.com/u/ap/photos/XDS107050712_lower.jpgand it's not a long sleeve.... it just reaces to the elbow.... what's the point?!?!?!

http://images.sportsline.com/u/ap/photos/XDS112050712_lower.jpgI also like the "wrist"band not being on his wrist  Like Corretja..... I mean, I have some, the only skinny places on my body are my wrists, and the cut off blood circulation:eek: So I wondered: how does it feel if I put them there?! I don't think I wanna know!!!!

05-10-2005, 12:55 PM

 he lost :( the first set was great, but then unfortunately his injury troubled him too much

What is his injury? I haven't heard about it.. hopefully its not too serious?

06-01-2005, 11:59 AM
i think it was mainly just cos he was so tired and hadn't been able to recover properly from the 4 hour match the day before...poor guy, so sad for him...

06-01-2005, 12:27 PM
I heard he had a back injury, and that that was the main reason he couldn't give all he has in him in the second and third set.

Anyway, whatever the reason may be, I hope he recovers soon!

06-01-2005, 01:35 PM
Ahh thanks for the info guys. With some rest, it sounds like he should be fine then :yeah:

06-16-2005, 08:16 PM
Hi everyone, I've been a fan of David since I saw him play at TMS Cincinnati last year. He lost in a close 3 setter with Srichaphan. I think it's awesome that he's had terrific results this year, esp. Miami & RG. The draw for Wimbledon hasn't been too kind to him - he's meeting his fellow countyman Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who I don't know at all except he looks cute in the 2 pictures I've seen of him.

Vamos David! Buena suerte en Wimbledon!

06-21-2005, 01:58 AM
I'm INSULTED that David Ferrer doesn't have his own thread when all these other jokers do.

I just love David! :D he's an amazing player and what a fighter :D

Even worse, David played on Court 9 yesterday. No TV, web cam, or stats coverage. Someone please tell me what happened during that match? Is Garcia-Lopez really good on grass??

06-27-2005, 09:48 PM
I took a pic of David at RG 05

Please do not post the pic elsewhere without my permission .thxs. :wavey:

06-28-2005, 05:56 PM
Thanks for sharing, Elisabeth! David's looking better these days than when I saw him at Cincinnati last year.

Any David news or David fans out there?

06-28-2005, 10:07 PM
:wavey: it's a bit boring here it seems ;) do you guys know his schedule? what is he going to play after wimby?

06-29-2005, 06:27 PM
I think Gstaad (Swiss Open) and Umag. Of course later on this summer he should be at Montreal and Cincy. If he keeps up his good results, he should be seeded for the TMS events.

07-02-2005, 09:27 PM
I'm also very surprised cause he made a good 1st part of the season. He's an interesting player to watch. I discovered him in Monte-Carlo at the practrice in 2003, but didn't know at that time who he was. I saw him in the pathes of Monte-Carlo, he was going to practrice, and I almost ran into him. I have to say that first, I found him good looking that is why I took a picture of him without knowing his name. Well the pic is here, for those who are interested, at that period, I asked the name of the player LOL

Well, i hope he'll make a good carreer, cause he's one of the new Spanish player I prefer.

A guy to follow... Suerte...

I'm INSULTED that David Ferrer doesn't have his own thread when all these other jokers do.

I just love David! :D he's an amazing player and what a fighter :D

Fotos de Mallorca ;)

07-06-2005, 03:36 AM
Gracias por las fotos, Aioli :)

Anyone see David's match today? Was it on Eurosport? I can't believe he's lost another 1st round match.

07-13-2005, 04:33 PM
Can't seem to find a website for David. But I put my investigative skills together enough to come up with a (probably incomplete) summer schedule:

US Open

I really want to David to win a title this year but things are not looking good as Rafa will be in Stuttgart and Umag.

If anyone sees him next week, can you ask what tournaments he's playing after USO?

I'm so impressed he's No 10 in the year end race, he's still got a shot at Masters Cup since all the GS winners this year are already in the Top 8.

07-20-2005, 05:34 PM
Hi I am a new David fan!

Sadly, David lost today in Stuttgart, I hope he hits form again soon!

07-22-2005, 01:03 PM
such a shame for David...i'm surprised he lost so easily...is he still suffering from that back injury he got at RG? he's going to lose a lot of points this week because last year he was a semifinalist in Stuttgart

07-26-2005, 07:06 PM
Today in Umag,

David beat Starace

6-3 3-6 6-2

07-27-2005, 02:26 AM
Starace has really improved a lot in the last year or so. But David needs to take care of Vicente in straight sets.

With Rafa gone, David has a shot to win this tournament if he finds his form/injury doesn't get in the way. :yeah:

07-27-2005, 09:29 AM

I agree, David plays Fernando Vincente next where I think he has a chance! :wavey:

07-27-2005, 11:30 AM
phew!! good to see David won a match again...hope he can beat Vicente now! vinga xiquet!

07-28-2005, 05:39 PM
David beat Vincente 6-2 6-3 (Or 6-3 6-2) so he is in some quarter finals!

07-28-2005, 08:08 PM
Carlos Moya next!

07-28-2005, 08:31 PM
Man, this is a tough one. Part of me is rooting for Carlos, since he's the first Spaniard I liked and he's been having a crap year but the other part is all about David, since he's got a shot at the title and possibly still qualifying for the Master Cup. :banghead:

07-29-2005, 01:05 PM
yeah i know...it's crap when 2 Spaniards have to face each other. i want David to win this one though!!

07-29-2005, 09:16 PM
David lost in 3

07-29-2005, 10:07 PM
Even Im glad about Moya won! Im sorry for David.. he is a great guy and a wonderful tennis player.

07-29-2005, 10:33 PM
Even Im glad about Moya won! Im sorry for David.. he is a great guy and a wonderful tennis player.

I had a gut feeling Moya was going to prevail in 3 and that's what happened. Now Ferrer is officially Carlos' pigeon - 0-5 H2H.

Have you met David?

07-30-2005, 11:28 AM
aww...shame about David's loss...at least he seems to have recovered from whatever was plaguing him before.

i agree he's a really nice guy...i have met him and his coach several times...i actually met david in the local supermarket in valencia when i was living there!! he is very friendly once u get to know him, though he seems shy at first.

good luck to him in his next tournament!

08-03-2005, 02:50 AM
My first glimpse of David in the flesh was last year in Cincy, one of the qualifying days he was practicing shirtless and I actually thought he was Feli until he turned his head so I could see his face. :o I blush pretty easy so I left rather quickly to gather my wits about me.

I couldn't even work up the nerve to talk any players nor Tim Henman's wife Lucy. :tape:

David is wisely not playing this week. I hope he's practicing on hard courts somewhere in Spain. He needs to post some wins at the next two TMSes and a good showing at USO to keep his chances of qualifying for Masters Cup alive.

08-03-2005, 07:37 AM
yeah agreed...I really want him to do well on the US hardcourts like he did earlier this year...wouldn't it be awesome if he made it to Shanghai?!

08-05-2005, 01:04 AM
If David made it, I'd have to get a visa and go to Masters Cup to see it.

There would be no way I could miss 2 of my faves (Nadal has already qualified)!

David watch: anyone sees him in Montreal, let us know please? :wavey:

08-05-2005, 08:52 AM
i would love to go to the TMC..especially as it's not THAT far away (well everything's far away from here, but Shanghai is not as bad as Houston haha)...but alas i think i'll have exams at that time :banghead: ...i would LOVE to see Rafa & co there...*sigh*

08-05-2005, 11:07 AM
haha yeah  so annoying...

08-05-2005, 11:54 AM
I took this photo of David in Rome this year

08-06-2005, 01:34 AM
I can get the time off work, it will just be the finances part that could possibly stop me from going to Shanghai. I've never been to Asia but the thought of going to China and seeing the sights as well as great tennis is terribly exciting!

David got the short end of the stick and drew Fabrice Santoro for 1st round in Montreal. The man makes up shots as he goes along, I've seen him play a few times. It will be tough for David and then if he does make it through, the winner of the Coria/Ferrero match will be waiting in the 2nd round... :banghead:

08-06-2005, 01:40 AM
David watch: anyone sees him in Montreal, let us know please? :wavey:

Will do :) And if I see him, I will take pics and share :)

08-06-2005, 12:33 PM
yeah...his draw is not the best...this is one of the most crappy draws of 2005 in general i think *sigh*

08-08-2005, 02:51 AM
A chica from the Rafa site saw David practicing yesterday. :awww:

I just realized there's probably no way ESPN is going to air any of his matches unless he reaches the semis. This spring between ESPN and The Tennis Channel, I saw a David match at least once every two weeks. Now since RG, nothing.

08-08-2005, 01:58 PM
join the club, we get no coverage at all...i haven't seen tennis on TV since Aus Open (except for Australia's DC ties which aren't all that interesting...)

08-09-2005, 09:48 PM
David won today against Santoro Well done David! :)

08-09-2005, 09:51 PM
Have you met David?

Yes.. he is a wonderful person :) Im sure you will like him if you havent met him :D

08-10-2005, 10:58 AM
yeah...great result for David! now he plays Ferrero :banghead:

08-10-2005, 02:23 PM
Well done David!

08-10-2005, 03:34 PM
The only players I've ever talked to are Mardy Fish and Mike Bryan back in 2003 - I had a weekend where I wasn't my usual shy self.

¡Vamos David!

I think it's going to be a tough 3 setter with Ferrero today. JC is very hungry but David's a tremendous fighter.

08-11-2005, 07:38 AM
David was beaten 5-7 6-4 3-6

08-11-2005, 01:04 PM
Sometimes I just hate being right :smash:

I stayed up til 1 am last night watching the scoreboard - so heartbreaking!

But now he can focus on doubles with Gasquet, vamos/allez chicos!

08-11-2005, 02:46 PM
David...

08-12-2005, 12:23 PM
I see they lost the doubles.

So I assume they are travelling to Cincy today. I wonder if David and Richard will be practicing tonight. I might just have to go to the seniors tournament to find out.

hmmm ok...well let's see if he can do better than he did in Montreal. Wonder if he'll play doubles too...

08-13-2005, 01:31 PM
I saw David last night, I'm still shy so didn't talk to him but I wrote up everything yesterday in my blog here (http://www.menstennisforums.com/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=139). Hopefully today I can take a few pictures of him. :)

08-14-2005, 03:04 AM
I only saw a teeny tiny bit of David in Montreal during his doubles with Gasquet and my pictures came out not so good :( But I"ll post them for y'all later :)

08-14-2005, 02:51 PM
David's playing doubles with Robredo in Cincy and they play Etlis/Rodriguez first round

08-14-2005, 10:17 PM
Saw David practicing again yesterday and today. I'll be at the doubles match to root Febredo on! :woohoo:

08-15-2005, 11:30 AM
Thanks for your write-up, LaTenista :worship: :D

08-16-2005, 11:31 AM
well they won in 3 sets and now play Arthurs and Hanley!

08-16-2005, 12:03 PM
Febredo played on Court 4 yesterday, their match started early because Martin retired in a 1st set TB in the first match of the day and then Horna crushed Christophe Rochus 6-3, 6-0. By time I even realized their match had started I couldn't get into it so I went over to see the end of Stepanek/Monfils which was the worst match of the day (since I didn't see the Horna/C Rochus one) and then went back over so it was 5-4 in the 1st set (they were up a break) when I was allowed in. Tommy hit several balls out of the court, I'd say at least 5 balls were lost, some into Court 3 but mainly out the back heading towards Center Court. There was a brief suspension of play due to rain but all players stayed out on court. Febredo kicked butt in the 3rd set, wonder why they couldn't have done that in the 2nd instead of almost giving me a heart attack.

At least some kids asked for autographs and pics with David yesterday after the match. :)

David's singles match against Moodie is scheduled for 11 am on Court 4 but it's raining at the moment here so I'm not sure the match will start on time.

08-16-2005, 05:49 PM
Thanks for the report of David LaTenista :)

As I write this, David starts his match against Moodie. Are you present there?

08-17-2005, 03:30 AM
Yes, I was at the match for its entirety (even if I had to peek over the fence a few times to watch a bit of Hrbaty vs Thomas Johannson which was the next court over). David played really well, esp. returns. He broke Moodie 5 times in the match and he saved all BPs. The score was 6-2, 6-1.

Tomorrow he will play Robby Ginepri who's American so I will be louder than usual cheering David on!

08-17-2005, 03:32 AM
Eggggggcellent, David! :D

Now rip Robby a new one! :bounce:

have fun LaT! I was in the same situation cheering for Karol against Robby in Washington DC.

08-17-2005, 05:20 AM
great win for David! hope he can do the same against Ginepri today!!

08-17-2005, 09:30 AM
good luck David!

08-18-2005, 03:10 AM
David lost 4-6, 3-6. There were only 2 breaks of serve in the match. Less than 150 people were there because at the same time Roddick vs Ferrero was on Center Court and Federer played doubles on Court 3 followed by Moya vs Simon. I think he had only 2 BPs or so in the match but couldn't convert. Ginepri's serve has a lot of pace and he only DFed like once, which was unbelievable. David didn't play bad except he DFed about 5 or 6 times. Ginepri played really well, he had very few unforced errors and that's probably the best I've ever seen him play. Needless to say, I hope Moya takes him out tomorrow.

08-18-2005, 09:36 AM
Aww,

I agree, lets hope Moya takes Ginepri out

08-18-2005, 01:35 PM
awww sad news...but if u say he didn't play badly then there's not much more we can expect of him...he did his best and that's all we can ask.

08-19-2005, 03:26 AM
Today I have some good news. :)

I watched Tommy and David practice for almost an hour this afternoon and they looked good. Febredo won their doubles match this early evening (it was still light out) against Arthurs/Hanley (8th seed) 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. :yeah: They managed to break Hanley twice and Arthurs once. Am also glad to report the break of serve in the 2nd set was Tommy's. So now they are in the QFs, they are the only two Spaniards left in the tournament. :awww:

 Ginepri beat Moya 6-3, 6-4. Again Ginepri played extremely well and I swear he didn't DF once. Also just 2 breaks of serve in that match.

08-19-2005, 01:58 PM
thanks for the info LaTenista! now they play Björkman/Mirnyi which will be tougher but let's see how they go. Vamos David!

08-19-2005, 04:11 PM
Hi :wavey:

I think this will replace the current picture of David's ATP Profile

08-20-2005, 03:42 AM
:crying2: Febredo lost today 1-6, 1-6. They were not having a good day. I don't think they practiced at all today, I didn't see their names on the practice schedule board. It was very hot and sunny about 93 or 94 degrees. Anyhow, they couldn't return serve to save their lives and just about every single backhand Tommy hit went long! Not only were both Bjorkman and Mirnyi serving extremely well, but they were also returning well. David was broken everytime he served, the 2 holds they had were on Tommy's serve but he was also broken a few times as well. Someone joked they had been partying last night - I really hope that was just kidding and not the truth.

David's schedule:
New Haven
US Open
Davis Cup at Italy (?)

Anybody know anything else?

08-20-2005, 08:12 AM
it wouldn't totally surprise me if they tanked the match somewhat...they probably realised they didn't have much chance against Björkman and Mirnyi and were probably wanting to head to New Haven. This happens more than one realises, especially when you have 2 singles players playing doubles. Robredo and Nadal did it a few times last year too.

I'm not saying that's what David and Tommy did but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

08-23-2005, 09:23 PM
David doesn't have his own thread ?

Anyway, here's some pix I took at Roland Garros (match vs Lee, I think it was Round 3):

08-24-2005, 08:13 AM
thanks Kyla!

yeah well he has his own thread but not his own forum :( hopefully sometime in the future they'll give him one too!

08-24-2005, 12:03 PM
thanks for the pictures Kyla!

David is the 17th seed for Us Open!

Great pics Kyla! :yeah:

David will play against Andreev in qtrs in New Heaven ... Good luck! :yeah:

08-27-2005, 03:52 AM
Well done David! :woohoo:

Good luck against Lopez tomorrow, you can do it!!! :bounce:

08-27-2005, 10:07 AM
Good luck David! :bounce:

08-27-2005, 11:07 AM
David :yippee:

08-27-2005, 03:08 PM
VAMOS DAVID!!! SIGUE ASI!!! :bounce:

08-29-2005, 01:31 AM
David lost to Feli 6-4, 3-6, 2-6 early yesterday evening. I was out of town visiting my cousin (it was his 16th b-day) and I didn't turn on the TV to watch it until the 2nd hour - David was already a down a break in the 2nd set by then. He couldn't do anything b/c Lopez was serving 130-something MPH bombs so he couldn't even get close to breaking serve. In the 3rd he lost serve in the first game, from that point on until the end of the match both David and Feli were talking after every point with their coaches, the commentators were suggesting they were both getting illegal coaching. During the 2nd set David was wearing a new Navy blue (non-tight) shirt he didn't wear in Cincy. For the 3rd he changed into the light blue one - same as Kyla's pics. The last 3 or 4 games David made tons of gross UEs - every shot was wide or into the net and he just completely collapsed - Feli broke him a 2nd time and then served out the match without much resistance. I videoed the match at home but haven't watched it yet.

I have looked at the the draw for the US Open - didn't David lose first round last year? I think he's got a good one. He should coast into the 3rd round where he'll probably meet Hrbaty. I wouldn't normally favor Ferrer's chances over Dominik's since but given the fact Hrbaty doesn't do well at the majors and he just got a thrashing a week and a half ago by Safin in Cincy, I'm not feeling too worried about this one. I can totally see him losing in 4 or 5 sets to Lleyton Hewitt in the 4th round. :tape:

Masters Cup: I'm not sure how many points David's going to gain but I think he might still have a shot of qualifying. He needs good results (like a win at Bucharest or Palermo, por favor) and also a little luck - like Davydenko or Coria or Puerta need to exit 1st or 2nd round from the USO.

08-29-2005, 01:04 PM
thanks for the report LaTenista!! it was a shame he lost in the semis...but one of the Spaniards had to lose unfortunately :( at least it probably gave him some more time to get rested and prepared for the Open...and it still helped his ranking a lot!!

you're right, he lost first round last year to Fish at the open so anything's gotta be better than that!! hrbaty will be difficult, agreed...but otherwise the draw is not too bad. if he can make the third round, i'll be happy!

it would be totally awesome if david made the masters cup!!! i would seriously throw a party!! and the great thing is, it's not impossible!! but yes, he will have to do something special in the last quarter of the year.

08-30-2005, 04:44 AM
Looked up David's rankings at atptennis.com and he's 15 in the world now (entry ranking). :woohoo: A new career high! He's 11 in the race again, moved back ahead of Gonzalez.

Unless I am completely blind, I didn't see David's 1st round match listed on Tuesday's OOP. So I guess he'll be playing on Wednesday and I see he's signed up to play doubles with Alex Calatrava.

Gaudio crashing out today was not exactly what I had in mind but it fits in the luck category David will need plenty of to keep the dream (he does want to get to Shanghai, right?) alive.

08-30-2005, 05:53 AM
yes!!! how good is his ranking!!! he's totally up there...can't believe it...last year he was wallowing around in the 40s and 50s and now suddenly this year he's finally made it...how wicked would it be if he got into the top 10 in the entry system?!

No, you're not blind...David's not playing today...so he'll be playing tomorrow. and yes, good to see he's teamed up with a fellow Valencian in Calatrava in doubles!! can't remember who they play but hope they can do well!

I would say it's a safe bet David would want to go to Shanghai!! if he didn't, i'd be pretty disappointed in him!! at least there's still that glimmer of hope!!!

VINGA DAVID!!! :bounce:

08-31-2005, 01:08 AM
His singles match is the 2nd of the day tomorrow on Court 11 against Calleri.

David, puedes hacerlo! Buena suerte.

09-01-2005, 09:41 PM
I only got to see one point on the stupid USA Network highlight reel, but Ferrer overcame Calleri in 5 sets. They were wearing matching shirts, the mostly white non-tight one. :smash:

I checked the Open website and Ferrer/Calatrava lost 3-6, 1-6 today to Suk/Visner. :( But I don't think Calatrava's very good at doubles.

So up next is Kucera, he's a veteran who I also think just came back from injury (do I see a trend forming?). As much as I'd like to write him off, I remember about 2 years at the Open he scored a win in the 2nd round over Mardy Fish, who was the 23 seed then.

David, finish him off in straight sets, por favor. My heart needs the day off as I'm in shock over the Puerta lost.

09-02-2005, 01:01 PM
yeah!! great win for David! hopefully he's fully recovered and can beat Karol in 3!! it's probably better they lost their doubles because David won't tire himself out unnecessarily now and can just focus on the singles and improving his ranking!!

sigue así David! :bounce:

09-02-2005, 11:47 PM
He beat Kucera this afternoon 6-3, 6-0, 6-2! Arriba! :yeah:

David will next play Hrbaty on Sunday. I'll probably be watching the coverage on USA Network or CBS (whichever one has the rights on Sunday  so I hope they show a game or two of it. I can't hope for more than that, as no doubt the Williams sisters will be playing each other, Agassi, Federer, Davenport and of course Hewitt vs Dent are also scheduled for that day.

So Davydenko, Gaudio, and Puerta are all out before the 3rd round. Things are definitely looking up for David's chances of making it to Shanghai, provided he can defeat Dominik to face either Hewitt or Dent in the 4th round.

:bounce: Just play your game David - keep the DFs to a minimum - and make your opponent hit one more shot.

Interesting to note that even though Hrbaty is the 15th seed and Ferrer the 17th, that based on David's SF in New Haven he gained 3 spots in the rankings, while Dominik dropped so David is actually the higher rated player! :p

09-03-2005, 10:28 AM
well done David on your win :yippee:

09-03-2005, 11:18 AM
good win for David! he needed that after his long first round match. Hrbaty will be a different story...i hope David can pull it off, though it will be pretty tough.
mucha suerte David!! :bounce:

09-05-2005, 01:23 PM
David lost to Dominik 7-6, 5-7, 5-7, 5-7.

CBS only showed the last game and a half of the match. Ferrer was broken at love in the 11th game due mostly to UEs. Then Hrbaty served it out. David was wearing the mostly white non-tight shirt and white shorts. Dominik on the other hand looked like a complete fashion victim :tape: with a *pale pink* top with 2 holes in the back of it exposing his shoulder blades. Even his black shorts had holes on the sides.

I was really hoping David was going to pull out the win. He'll have a tough time qualifying for Masters Cup now until he does better than this in Madrid and Paris. I'll have to check his race points on atptennis.com but I'm pretty sure even he won both Bucharest and Palermo that would not be enough. :(

But according to Judio's Top 40 Entry Rankings in GM, David will be 13th come next Monday. Of course that could possibly change if Robredo (17th) and Hrbaty (19th) keep winning USO matches.

So now he's probably back in Valencia for a bit of rest and some practice on clay courts before heading to Bucharest.

09-05-2005, 01:39 PM
thanks for the report LaTenista...shame for David  i always thought hrbaty would be tough...well, onto Bucharest now as u say and hopefully he can do well there!! :bounce:

09-05-2005, 06:04 PM
I was lucky enough to see the whole match on sky in the uk. He could have quite easily have won the match 3 sets to 1, he served for the third set at 5-3, also Hrbaty was very nervous serving for it the first time at 5-4 in the 4th. Unfortunately for David his serve just fell apart, those who saw his match against Mayer in Dusseldorf will understand what i mean, one serve was fired in at 69mph. He also looked like he was cramping as well thou kicking the clock on the side of the court during the second set wouldn't have helped his cause.
However i must ask what was Hrbaty wearing, please tell he wore it because he lost a bet.
I'm new to this forum so can anyone tell if this is the place to post photos? I was lucky enough to go Rome this year & i took a few whilst there.

09-06-2005, 05:36 AM
I checked the ATP website, David has a dead lock on 11th place in the race - with Gonzalez and Gasquet crashing out it seems unlikely anyone else can overtake him until after Beijing/Bucharest tourneys are over.

alisia, yes, please post pics here in this thread. I've got 4 from Cincy I need to scan soon myself. Unfortunately, according to the commentators on CBS here in the US, Hrbaty actually likes his "exposed" outfit, saying it keeps him cool. Personally I think he's quite strange. I managed to avoid his matches in Cincy this year. You didn't happen to see David's match at Wimbledon against Garcia-Lopez did you? They played on a court without a webcam or match statistics and I'd like to know what really happened - was he not fully recovered from his back injury or can Guillermo play well on grass? I know what you mean about David's serve breaking down - it's never been a weapon for him and during his match against Ginepri in Cincy he seemed to be going for too much and DFed about 5 or 6 times. I'd like to see him come to net more in his singles matches, he plays doubles almost every week so he can volley. David gets a bit angry when the match isn't going his way - he got a few ball abuse warnings/violations in Cincy and he threw his racquet around kind of a lot but Malisse and Massu are much worse (I think they need anger management classes) but I never saw him kick anything but tennis balls. Could you make out what David said to Dominik when they shook hands? American commentators are so loud I couldn't hear and I don't read lips.

09-06-2005, 12:40 PM
Unfortunately his match at Wimbeldon wasn't covered but a friend from work saw his match and I think he said that he had to have the trainer out to him but I do remember him saying that Garcia-Lopez served very well and basically didn't give him a chance. We are spoilt in the UK we have Sky covering all the Masters Series as well the Austalian & US opens and we have usually a couple of matches to choose from unless one of the Brits have played then they reply them to death, during the US open we have all the 3 show courts plus courts 10 & 11. The only down side is Eurosport have the rights for the French open but the BBC did cover the second week.
I wouldn't say he was angry during his match with Hrbaty more frustrated it was a bit similar to when he played Calleri in the first round he was done for 2 code violations on 2 consecutive points and he was winning. The difference between both matches was Calleri cramped at the beginning of the 4th set and David took advantage and finished him off easily but for 3 sets it was a very entertaing match with both of them playing well together.
We didn't hear what they said to each other at the end of the match but i think they are friends because I saw them play doubles together in Rome.

09-06-2005, 03:17 PM
welcome alisia!! thanks for the reports...it's a shame to hear he could have won the match...that would have done wonders for his ranking *sigh* oh well...maybe he can gain some more points in Bucharest next week...he'll be the top seed so let's see. he'll hopefully be nice and rested by then so if he was bothered by anything it will hopefully have healed.
look forward to seeing your pics! :)

Hrbaty and Robredo are taken care of . Who else can I jinx in any effort to improve/maintain David's entry ranking and race position?

I seriously don't see anyone but Federer or Agassi winning the title and they both far ahead of him so no worries.

I lived in London for just over 6 months about 3 years ago, didn't have Sky but sounds cool. I didn't watch much telly though and never even bothered to figure out how teletext worked - there is nothing like it here in America. Anyhow, over here only one channel can air a match and channels never show different matches from a tournament at the same time. So I'm forced to watch whatever the powers that be air, though usually the womens' matches get a bit boring and they will switch to a mens' match on another court for a bit - saw some of Coria-Massu yesterday that way. I'm dreading the autumn/post USO season as only The Tennis Channel covers it - good coverage for Madrid and Paris, but otherwise I think I'll only be getting Bangkok, or least I did last year. Even if David does win Bucharest or Palermo I won't get to see any of it.

09-07-2005, 11:32 AM
As promised photos that I took in Rome. The one of him wearing Addidas is from the Nottingham Open last year, sorry I just could not resist taking that one.

just be thankful u don't live in Australia then! we get basically nothing on free to air. they show the aussie tournaments and wimbledon and that's basically it. no french open, no masters no nothing. they've condescended to show the last 3 days of the US Open  when all my faves have lost...but that's at a crap time anyway...it's on at like 1am. one year they didn't show the us open either...and apart from that we get nothing. APPARENTLY we are getting the masters cup this year on tv...we haven't had it the last 2 years but i guess they're showing it this year cos the time zone is better for broadcasting...so they should *hmpf*

thanks for the photos alisia :)

According to the updated entry list for Bucharest David has pulled out.

09-09-2005, 03:11 PM
oh bugger...so he has :( i wonder why

09-10-2005, 12:44 AM
Any word about Davis Cup? Perhaps he's pulled out of Bucharest to prepare with the captain.

Great pix alisia! Was David really with Adidas last year? I don't remember. I only saw him in 2004 for like a minute practicing without a shirt and then I was at his 1st round match vs Srichaphan. Drawing a complete blank on his clothing. :(

I've attached mine from Cincy 2005 which aren't as good. They are just straight scanned without any cropping (sorry I'm not used to my PSC yet), taken with my old 35 mm camera. The shirtless pic is from Saturday, August 13; the Febredo ones are from their 1st round match Monday, August 15; David practicing in the red Diadora shirt taken Thursday, August 18.

I ended up only taking a total of about 48 photos the entire 10 days, so the fact David was in four is quite a good showing. ;)

Thanks for the pics!

Spanish Davis Cup Team - Official
Rafael Nadal
David Ferrer
Juan Carlos Ferrero
Feliciano López

Rafa will play singles, and if he's ready he'll play doubles with Feliciano, Juan Carlos and David will fight for the other place in singles with David partnering Feliciano if Spain leads 2-0 after friday!

Good news for every David fan,he is in the team this time. http://forum.ragezone.com/images/smilies/hug.gif I like Juan much more than him,but David deserves to play the single rubber(s) too. http://forum.ragezone.com/images/smilies/clap.gif
Vamos David en Copa Davis! http://forum.ragezone.com/images/smilies/3dflagsdotcom_spnat_2faws.gif

yes! it would seem he pulled out of Bucharest to prepare for DC!! i'm so happy he's finally been given a break into DC...he deserves it! felicitaciones David! :yeah:

09-10-2005, 03:47 PM
:woohoo: This tie might actually air on The Tennis Channel.

Enhorabuena, David! Kick some Italian behind in the 2nd singles! (I know you can outplay JC right now).

Tenniswise, things these last few days have been going exactly the way I've wanted them to go. :yeah:

09-14-2005, 04:26 AM
:smash: Spoke to soon about TTC - we're getting the Croatia-Russia SF which may turn out to be a total .

Anyhow, found an article about the Spanish team on marca.com, there's what Jordi Arrese the captain had to say about David: En cuanto a David Ferrer ha comentado que "lleva un año increíble en tierra y su momento de juego es espectacular. Creo que, como para todos los jugadores, es un premio el estar en el equipo y un gran aliciente para él".

Also there was a blurb that unofficially the doubles will be Feli and Rafa but he hasn't ruled out David partnering with either of them. :yeah:

I'll be really  if David doesn't end up playing any of the rubbers.

It states the Spanish team will be leaving from Barcelona on Sunday early afternoon to Italy and start practicing at the site on Monday. If Rafa makes the final of Beijing (or JC) I guess they will come directly to Italy.

09-15-2005, 11:18 AM
thanks for the info! i really hope he can do the singles rubber!!

I wonder if JC and Rafa will tank their matches in Beijing if they get too far? that's what JC and Carlos did last year lol

anyway, mucha suerte chicos...podéis hacerlo!

09-16-2005, 01:55 PM
well the good news is that it doesn't look like jc is going to tank the tournament...and he'll prob have to play Rafa in the semi...so they'll both prob go straight to italy from beijing

09-17-2005, 02:03 AM
:) Hola Ferrer fans! Here's a pic I took at Montreal05...guess who! ;)

Monday August 8
We popped in to see Yves Allegro practising on court 4, then a bit of Nadal-Ferrer on court 8 [too far to take any decent pix though, only ones through a fence behind a girl whose blonde hair flew into my view]. Interestingly, two women behind me were gushing over the shirtless Spaniards but mostly over the guy practising with Nadal – they thought that guy was pretty hot! I told them he was David Ferrer. ;)

Tuesday August 9
R1 Gasquet/Ferrer d Niemyer/Grosjean court 9 [moved from court BN]
After 9.00pm

After the first three games of the Nadal/Robredo vs. Allegro/Hrbaty doubles match on CC, I decided to go to court BN to catch a little of the beginning of the other doubles Gasquet/Ferrer. I positioned myself just outside the court ready to film and as I started, I realized that this was not the right doubles match… it was Dancevic/Bester. Confused, I asked a volunteer what happened to the Gasquet doubles. Oh, they’re playing on court 9, he said… what? I can’t believe it!

So I high-tailed it over to court 9 and sure enough, the Gasquet doubles had already started. During a break I got in and asked someone the score – the person hadn’t a clue so I asked someone else who had to get up and look at the scoreboard to tell me… well I could have done that myself! Wasn’t the match already into the third set?? I was livid. I texted my sister, who, along with our friend, came over to try and see the very end of this well-contested match. Niemeyer was serving well when I arrived and people were chanting “Grosjean, Grosjean!” but Gasquet and Ferrer came up with shots to break their opponents and finally win the match. A couple of enthusiastic young female fans brandishing a big Spanish flag kept shouting out cheers, in French for Ferrer, then in Spanish for Gasquet or in English for both. A fun match on a small court – the best for atmosphere.

Found this article. This is the first time I've seen one where they actually quoted him! :D

Anyhow, my Spanish isn't perfect but here's my translation of what David said:

That they have called me up is an enormous personal satisfaction. I'm very happy to be in the Davis (competition), it's a dream, something that every tennis player desires. I'm available for all/everything that they [the captains]may ask (of) me and I will try to give/put forth the top (my best). In doubles I have won 2 titles this season and it's not that I don't know how to play, as soon as I will have/get hold of what the captains would tell me.

If I play, (I'll be) delighted, but if not I will support to the top/maximum because this is a team. I hope to do it well. It's not easy to enter into this team, there are many players and although you would be on top no one assures you the place. That is the best of Spanish tennis. The Davis (competition) depends on who plays best in/at each moment, I have to take advantage that they have called me.

:awww: Be still my heart. He said all the right things, confident yet humble.

Schedule for the rest of the year:
Davis Cup WG playoffs, Torre di Greco, Italy
Week off

Masters Cup Update:

I've crunched the numbers and it's not looking so good :( :

I figure he needs to have about 400 race points to make it to Shanghai and he's got 274 right now. This pull out of Bucharest may have cost him dearly, since now he'll really have to post great results at his remaining tournaments.

Assuming the very best (he wins all 5 remaining tourneys) he will have 571 race points and definitely qualify.

Assuming the best I think he's capable of right now (W Palermo, F Stockholm, SF Madrid, SF Lyon, QF Paris), he will have 402 race points.

He needs to reach at least the QFs at both Madrid and Paris unless he wins Palermo, Stockholm, and Lyon, in which case he will need 3rd round results at both Madrid and Paris to have 401 race points.

But before we all go  because this is going to be a tall order, the bright side of things is he didn't play well at all during last year's indoor autumn season (1st round losses last 4 weeks of the year) so as long as he does better this year he should improve his entry ranking and maybe even crack into the Top 10.

He's defending SF entry points at Palermo, so I'm off to create a cheering thread for David over in the Upcoming Tournaments part of the forum.

09-19-2005, 11:10 AM
thanks for the info LaTenista!!! we'll just have to cross our fingers and hope for the best! a ver qué pasa!

Found this from a Sep 14th article...

David Ferrer, who is training at home, yesterday made a fuss over the displays of Alicante after his inclusion in the Spanish team. "When you play the Davis (competition) you don't defend your individual interests, but those of a nation. That is very pretty and I'm going to give the maximum, " indicated the Alicantean [is that word for a native of Alicante?, if not I just made it up :tape:].

 So does that mean he was in Alicante and not in Valencia where I thought he lived?

Anyhow, I'm attaching a pic of David practicing today I got off the Italians' website for this DC tie as well as two older pics.

09-20-2005, 01:09 PM
he does live in Valencia...because he used to live around the corner from me! but i think he is originally from Jávea which is in the Alicante province so he would definitely have family there too...so maybe he went home there for a while to train

09-20-2005, 02:34 PM
Javea is not far at all fr either Valencia or Alicante city. Cool, Emilita, David lived close to you! ;) I have lived in Valencia [as an estudiante en la universidad] and the city and the whole Comunidad valenciana are so beautiful w fantastic climate and food! A great part of Spain [but then I love any part of Spain practically!].

Vamos, David! Prove that you are a force in DC! I wish they had included him in previous ties, even as a sparring partner for the other players.

09-21-2005, 02:38 AM
I've never been to Spain.

All the Spanish I know is from high school and uni classes. At least I've put it to more use than my 4 years of studying Latin - though it was amazing going to Italy. We only went to Naples for half a day, just to visit the archeological museum there. The city seemed crowded and a bit dirty so I hope the players are staying in the outskirts.

Anyhow, there are loads more pics of David up on the Italians's website but they are all watermarked.

Here's the link to the site: http://www.italiaspagna2005.com/

:boxing: I really hope David and JCF play off to see who'll take the 2nd singles spot.

09-21-2005, 02:41 AM
Looks like David got a haircut since the USO. :p

09-22-2005, 11:31 AM
Juan Carlos got the 2nd singles spot. Maybe if they're up 3-0 after the doubles they will David play one of the dead rubbers.

09-22-2005, 11:40 AM

yeah tell me about it! it's my favourite part of Spain actually...totally feel at home there! :)

hmmm interesting...i was hoping to see David get a shot there...but oh well, they may be keeping him for the doubles who knows...or, as you say, the dead rubber.

i had some probs viewing the pictures on that site...i was wanting to see his haircut!! are u able to post any here?

09-22-2005, 08:19 PM
Honestly, I was shocked when I read that David didn´t get the second singles spot. I was sure that he would get to play. They didn´t pick him for the doubles either (Nadal/Lopez), which means that he´ll only get to play if the captain decides to give Nadal a rest.

09-22-2005, 09:59 PM
Some pics from the draw ceremony, and one from the party.

09-22-2005, 11:16 PM
I'm glad to see David looks pretty happy in the photos. :) Thanks for posting them squirtkb97.

Wow, 1st time I've seen him in a suit (or anything other than tennis attire for that matter).

On paper the 2nd singles spot should have been David's, however it was the captains and not a computer who made the decision. The fact is Juan Carlos has been playing DC for years now and the captains may feel bad about sticking him in the doubles with Robredo during the final last year in Seville. Popularity (god, I thought high school was over) may have also been a factor in the decision. On the other hand, maybe the captains are taking the pressure off David by not making him play during his 1st tie. In all, I was expecting this. Given the choice of experience vs unknown, isn't it part of human nature to go with what you know?

Anyhow, Potito Starace has a fever so it's looking doubtful that he'll play this weekend. Spain could possibly crush Italy and that's what really matters, right?

¡Viva España! :yeah:

09-23-2005, 03:56 AM
Pictures of David practicing for the tie against Italy earlier this week.

09-23-2005, 04:00 AM
Thanks for the pics! :D

Vamos David, good luck in DC! :bounce:

09-24-2005, 12:26 AM
:smash: JCF. Forget that stuff about crushing Italy, I'll settle for eeking out a win now, thanks!

 Read a Spanish article at marca.es that hinted Arrese could be thinking about not playing Ferrero in the 5th rubber. He says they'll do anything to win. That very well may mean putting David out there against Starace (if he recovers) or Bracciali. I'm not feeling confident about the doubles so I wouldn't be surprised if the last rubber is a live one . I just don't think David would have lost to Seppi today had he played.

I saw a pic of JC with David sitting in the background, he seemed to be making a weird facial impression, maybe it while Ferrero was being bagelled . Or maybe he had serious doubts about letting JCF play 2nd singles like I did (which turned out to be in good reason, can I be a co-captain now? :p I've got great gut instinct).

España tiene que ganar este fin de semana, chicos!

09-24-2005, 12:02 PM
i also think david would have beaten seppi...i cannot believe jcf lost like that...how did he just collapse?! i hope david can play the live rubber if he's needed...would be a great experience for him!

09-24-2005, 05:17 PM
Spain is down 1-2 after the doubles fiasco (I'd love to blame it on Feli but the truth is Rafa lost serve the last game of the match  ).

Sending vibes to G2: Play David, play David, play David...

He's the only hope - the force is strong with this one. Sorry going off on Star Wars tangent, I'll stop now.

09-24-2005, 06:51 PM
From daviscup.com:

Barazzutti confirmed Starace is out of Sunday's rubber but said he will not name his replacement until shortly before the opening of the final day of action.

Spain captain Jordi Arrese was also keeping his cards close to his chest but after Ferrero's loss to Seppi in Friday's opening rubber he could turn to 13th-ranked David Ferrer in what could be the decisive match.

that would be a smart move, methinks. I honestly have lost faith in JCF
