lol. Can't make out how much sarcasm is in this thread. Winning one match is enough to boose him up 7 spots, not a bad day of work there. I would prefer a Clijsters like movement of shooting up the ranking at just the second event since coming back. But for JC, as long as he's moving up, I guess. Better luck in Miami.

And there was this other player named Tommy Haas that came back and beat the number 2 player in the world and this one player named Agassi who came back after some dismal rankings.

Not necessarily, because Guga can request ranking protection, this way his ranking is for all practicall purposes, something around 30°.

Perhaps he wants to scare the opponent. Or to hide behind the bandana, so that another player will thing "Oh my God, I'm playing Federer, I had to loose". So it is all well thought-out marketing strategy. Don't forget, Patricia studies adverciting ;)

lalaland
03-30-2005, 03:23 AM
He did match his best performance in Miami, but that's not really hard to match.

He only has 75 pts from Valencia and 1 pt for the rest of the clay tournaments before RG to defend. The bad news is, he needs to at least make another 520 pts in the next 6 weeks to get the last seeding in RG. A total of 600 points from the next 3 TMS and 2 Optionals if he gets to play them all. A R16 appearance in TMS just won't cut it.

Ferrero Forever
03-30-2005, 09:47 AM
who cares if he doesn't get a seeding at RG-mabye he'll get roddick. I mean he beat Canas, so is is capable of beating the top players, he'll do well there regardless of whether he's seeded or not. 4th round is pretty damn good though, so i'm just happy that he got that far.

Luna
03-30-2005, 11:29 AM
If he drew seed player even in 1st round at RG,everything has two aspects,in one hand is he's unluck to face top player(1/4 chance..he is not the "lucky"man,is itn't he?),in other hand is if he beat his big opponent like Roger Federer Andy Roddick...etc,the rest of the draw will be seriously easy.:)

lalaland
03-30-2005, 07:28 PM
I admire your optimism, I really do. He could draw Roddick or Coria in the first round, who knows. If he can beat anyone, then he doesn't have to care who is his first round opponent. But he's not at that level yet. He said it himself that it is difficult when he is drawing top players early in the tournament. I bet he cares whether he can get a seeding at RG. If he is thinking what I am thinking, then he should know it is important to get himself up the ranking in the next 5 clay tournaments and put himself in a good position for RG. No one can control the draw, the only thing he can control is to get a seeding so he can at least delay meeting the top player until latter round. That's reality, no dissing intended.

RogiFan88
03-31-2005, 01:59 AM

EXACTLY! Thank you for clarifying it for us. So Juanqui only has to win one of the TMSes to get 500 pts, and then he can make say, two 4th rds in the other TMSes and yeah, sure, he will have the 600 pts easy-peasy!

:p

Juanqui s have done better in Rotterdam so that his ranking w not have fallen so desperately low and now he has to dig himself out of a big hole. I Wells and Miami were not good bets to make up the pts...

Buena suerte, Juanqui! ;)

I think that Juanqui will have MORE pressure to do well on clay since it is his best surface -- he already felt the pressure to beat Rogi in Dubai [why?] and failed. Everyone will expect him to do well on clay... we need a miracle. It's a real shame that he couldn't close out that match vs. Ferrer -- it s have been him and not Ferrer vs. Hrbaty who apparently donated the QF to David. Oh well...

JC has done really great to get his ranking up from the 90s in January to 21 in August. He has a few months of tournaments left now to get his ranking higher, hopefully end the year top 15 and he will then start next year getting seeded higher in tournaments and therefore get better draws. He's worked hard this year and I hope tonight he plays well whatever happens.
