NEWPORT, RI - The International Tennis Hall of Fame announced today that Jurgen Melzer of Austria has entered the 2005 Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. The Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, played for the Van Alen Cup, is scheduled for July 4-10 on the legendary grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island.
Melzer is currently at No. 29 on the 2005 INDESIT ATP Race and is Austria's No. 1 ranked player. Already this year, he has reached the semifinal at San Jose (defeating Andre Agassi in the quarterfinal), the quarterfinal at Adelaide and the third round of the Australian Open.
The left-handed Melzer finished the 2004 season with his first year-end Top 50 ranking (No. 40), improving his year-end ranking for the sixth consecutive year. Melzer also reached his career best Grand Slam results by advancing to the third round at both the Australian Open and US Open.
