Well here's Nico's quarter:

(1) Roger Federer v. Bye
Jan-Michael Gambill v. Mardy Fish
Qualifier v. Gilles Muller
Bye v. (26) Radek Stepanek

(19) Mario Ancic v. Bye
Hicham Arazi v. Thomas Berdych
Fillippo Volandri v. Qualifier
Bye v. (13) Ivan Ljubicic

(10) David Nalbandian v. Bye
Antony Dupuis v. Juan Monaco
Jonas Bjorkman v. Irakli Labadze
Bye v. (23) Thomas Johansson

[b](29) Nicholas Kiefer[\b]v. Bye
Sargis Sargisian v. Qualifer
Max Miryni v. Xavier Malisse
Bye v. (8) Gaston Gaudio

Well I guess in this type of tourny there's no such thing as an easy draw. Let's see how he does. He should still be confident:)

Go Nico !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The UNBEATEN double is back.

Kiefer/Stepanek - Grosjean/Monfils

Kiefer - Sargsian on Court !8! He should play on Center Court:rolleyes:

Neely

IMO he should always play on Centrecourt :smoke:

But a 1st round match like Kiefer vs Sargsian just doesn't have a chance to compete for a chance being scheduled for the biggest courts like the matches of the US players or any hot WTA players who all get a Stadium 1 or 2 match ;)

 Good luck, Kiwi!!!!!!! :clap2:
I hope Sargsian doesn't have one of his well known "good days" when he does miracles....

Hey everyone,
I was at the match today. Wow! I've only seen Nic play in person a few times, but I have never seen him play a match like that. Just about every shot he tried today worked perfectly and the ball always seemed to go exactly where he wanted it to go. Admittedly, it seemed like nothing Sarge did worked at all, but Nic still had to play well to get the points. I took just a few pictures, so we'll see how they come out when I get around to developing them.

And here's a funny... I got to the match after most of the crowd had been seated and found the one empty seat left near the court. After a few minutes the woman next to me said 'I think I've seen your picture, with Nic... on Mens Tennis Forums. Are you Fee?' It was Kiwiteami! So we sat together to cheer Nic on, as if he needed our help. After the match was over, Nic went back out to the practice court to work out some more. He has a doubles match tomorrow, so I will try to see him before that and give him the messages (sorry, keep forgetting them, duh...). I have to cheer for Tommy Haas at 10 am, but I am sure that I will see Kiefer again.

Cheers!

Gaudio beat Mirnyi ! Interesting match now Kiefer vs Gaudio, but I think Kiefer is the favourite.:)

Gaudio beat Mirnyi ! Interesting match now Kiefer vs Gaudio, but I think Kiefer is the favourite.:)
It's nothing new that Gaudio hardly advances far in any draws of non-claycourt tournaments (Australian Open 4th round his career best, I would say)... but 1) it's still early (3rd round) and 2) even despite his rather poor record on anything else than clay Gaudio also has players with whom he matches up very well: Federer and Ferrero are just two to throw in some names.

As for Monday, I simply hope that Kiefer doesn't join that list!

That's true Neely, but we have to keep in mind, that Gaudio recently was injured and in the first place I was surprised that he was capable of defeating Mirnyi at all. So concerning fitness Kiwi should be superior.

The problem is that Gaudio could be "a new Rochus" for Kiwi :o

Furthermore, Indian Wells is normally quite "stumpf" and rather slow, Gaudio should like this more.
I assume Gaudio was pretty well recovered in his match against Mirnyi already, otherwise he wouldn't won it as Mirnyi isn't such a bad player normally.

the 6-0 6-0 was nice, but for his next match I'm sceptical and I hope I can be convinced soon by a winning score

NiciSunflower
03-13-2005, 06:32 PM
Sure, and I didn't wanna say that Gaudio would be an easy win or sth like that. I just think that he, bearing his injury in mind and the 3-setter against Mirnyi, shouldn't be threatening at all. But of course Gaudio can be quite annoying to face, I guess, especially on slow and *stumpfen* surfaces.

But hey, let's just send positive vibes to Kiwi!

They moved Kiwi & Radek's match so I didn't get to follow the score on the SB. Didn't know they moved it till they were done. They lost to Seb & Gael 4-6 4-6. Haven't seen an OP yet for his match tomorrow.

Very well done, Kiwi!!! :D :clap2:
I also never expected it that easily by the score.

Looking at the scoreboard now, I see the good thing was that he was able to break Gaudio four times and that he didn't get broken himself saving all five break points he faced.

It looks like he outplayed Gaudio as he didn't have any aces at all.

Good to notice, I'll take that 4th round after losing in the first round last year! :yeah:

Neely
03-15-2005, 08:31 AM
Also good is that he won despite the wind. Normally he doesn't play good in windy conditions, but Gaudio does.

These Indian Wells desert winds can be nasty, but I don't know how bad it really was.

Damn it.... Federer was again too good
I also think that Kiwi really played a good first set, he can be happy with that. But the 2nd set was then much too easy for Federer :o

Hopefully he also wins a few rounds in Miami! :bounce:

He reached the quarterfinal in Miami last year and lost 1st round in Indian Wells, he already did equaled that result in Indian Wells now. So every win in Miami is a bonus! :)
