I should think that the top 5 Alternates are safely in the draw too.

I would be very surprised to see Agassi make the effort, Guga is already out, has anyone seen Younez? Martin Verkerk still listed as injured....

(ok so I am confident my guy is now going...) I really hope JCF gets a WC. H

Guga is playing Valencia unless he has withdrawn.

Verkerk is more than likely to be out. Agassi is cracking jokes he won't play there and he hasn't done for years.

Guga starts to play in Valencia and has every intention to play the 3 TMS on clay, otherwise, you won't see him using his protective ranking on the entry list. Same for Younes and he has already played in Dubai.

Q. What have you done for it so far and do you think it will be okay for your next tournament?

ANDY RODDICK: Yeah, luckily my next tournament is, what, three weeks away.

Q. Houston?

ANDY RODDICK: Yeah. I have a pretty significant amount of time, about as much time as you'll get between tournaments. So I'm pretty optimistic.

Apparently, Monte Carlo's never been on his schedule. Cross his name out on the entry list and one more room for the alternate.

Agassi hasn't played Monte Carlo for longer than I can remember - don't think he likes it there - I believe there were some "issues" a few years back between him and the organisers, but I can't remember the details so I'm not going to go into it here. As for Roddick - well he has already said he's committed to Houston which is on the other side of the world the week after MC - so it seems unlikely he would fly across the Atlantic twice in a week to play in a tournament he hasn't been in for years either, especially with his current injury. Neither of them are a great loss in my opinion  but that's a purely personal opinion!!!

Action Jackson

The reasons for Agassi and Roddick not playing in Monte Carlo, is Americans in general don't like the place and they can afford not to play there. I mean they have been pissing on these tournaments for years, so it's no great loss that they are not there.

If the shoe is on the other foot, they are the first to criticise others for ducking tournaments on their least favoured surface.

I will bet money on him not showing up, regardless of what his site says. The people who run his site know him no better than you or I do, for the most part, and technically he's entered into the tourney til he pulls out, so that's all his site knows. MC was on his site last year, too.

I wouldn't be surprised if Andre pulls out, too. and isn't Roger known for skipping MC as well?

Also, Bjorki, according to the Bryan Twins' website, they don't play til Houston either. Considering that they're really good on clay, it confuses me that they would miss a Masters event on it, but what the heck do I know

Never mind, I take back what I said about the Bryans: "They have decided to play Monte Carlo and will head there before going to Houston for the Clay Court Championships the week of April 18."

He didn't, but he played in 2002 and 2003. But no, it's pretty official that he's not playing this year, it's been taken off his official website as of tonight (it was still there earlier so it was obviously just taken down today). My guess is that Goldfine didn't push him that hard to play. Looking at Todd Martin's career, he rarely played Monte Carlo but had some decent results over the years on clay. Goldfine seems like the type of coach who would rather him take one less cross-Atlantic trip and try to do better in the tournaments that he does play and if he can actually post some respectable results in Rome and Hamburg it won't really matter. Of course, what he should do is go over to Europe, play MC and then one of the European IS events instead of Houston but this is a pointless discussion b/c he'll never do that :o:rolleyes:

Rain delay, lucky draw an opponent dominating him and then having back problems. Agassi has never had a hard draw at all at RG. Credit to him he took advantage of the situation and became champion.

He did well enough in the past on clay in the TMS and he not only won RG, but he also made another few times the finals and semifinals there. Agassi's results prior to 2004 have been more than solid, just a matter of time until it's followed by a horrible clay season, especially under the view that he was going through a bad time back then last year.

Q. Did you feel comfortable with the way you approached the French last year?

ANDRE AGASSI: No, no, it was a terrible call I made. I mean, I was beside myself. I'm not the kind of person that does well without matches. I can do well without practice; I can't do well without matches. I need to get relaxed out there and remind myself how hard I work to make it seem easy at times. It's not easy for me to remember that when I've been away for six weeks.

Q. That difficult thing of being 34, knowing that you have to have your legs fresh...

ANDRE AGASSI: Yeah, my legs are treating me well right now. I don't have an issue with that. My back is better. My hip, as a result of the nerve that they found, it's better, I got it treated, and I'm able to lunge, I'm able to sprint to balls and recover and force myself to play to the standard. That's a good sign. So I'm not worried about my legs. Be more worried about, you know, what I need mentally right now just to feel prepared.

Grrrr.....David is still in the entry list (how official it is, is beyond me and everyone else in here; heck, Roddick is still listed) as of right now. You know they're not going to update that list until tomorrow sometime-when they decide to get the main draw made up.

According to this list, Roddick, Agassi, Nalbandian (??), Haas, Pavel, Fish and Carlsen have also pulled out.
Anyone could confirm it?

Why did Haas pull out?

I can't believe Nalbandian may have pulled out. We were just saying a few days ago how the one good thing about his season so far is he's been healthy. :smash:

Why did Haas pull out?

Probably the same reason as many of the others - Houston. Except that Haas is in houston right now playing the River Oaks exhibition, and he's playing the Houston USMCC the week after.

This is crazy that we don't have the final entry list or the draw yet... there's gotta be some reason that the information flow out of MC is so bad...

Is there an SE spot for Monaco ? I don't see one on the entry list.

cremolafoam
04-09-2005, 05:02 PM
Nope no SE's because you can only get one into a Masters Series if you gained it from another Masters Series or International Series Gold the previous week and Valencia and Casablanca are just normal International Series.

Think the problem with no draw being out yet is no PDF draws have been updated at all on the ATP site today - not even the challengers with yesterday's results.
