No doubt she is one of the best David fans :worship: and also the sweetest girl

We always get a lot of joy and pleasure from her so many amazing translations and pics. Live match reports gotta even more appreciation :yeah:, and now with your new camera, you Jazz, becomes a great live reporter (just finished your funny live DC draw report right now :hug: ) She deserves a thread, and don't give me any objection to this ;) coz i won't stop :smoke:

Have a nice weekend and enjoy the DC, jazz :wavey: Vamos Argentina! We will wait for the winning news from you, jazzita

*Ljubica*
03-04-2005, 02:52 PM
Porteña just means a girl from Buenos Aires as far as I'm aware. Originally it had some kind of meaning tied up with the tango dance which originated in Argentina - but i think it just has a more general use now. Sure Jazz will explain its origins better.

Choupi
03-04-2005, 03:10 PM
Thanks Rosie. :) If jazz feels like giving more explanations, I'll be satisfied. But at least, now I know a bit more.

sigmagirl91
03-04-2005, 03:16 PM
Maybe portena to her is what Buckeye is to an Ohio resident or Tarheel is to a resident of NC. Just my guess anyway.

I'm ashamed to say that I don't know where it comes from, but my guess is that the expression comes from the port...Whatever, porteño/a means that that person comes or is from Buenos Aires, like cordobés is from Córdoba and Santafesino from Santa Fé. You say that someone is bonaerense, when he/she is from the Buenos Aires province, and porteño when she/he is from Buenos Aires City ;)
But we, porteños, don't have a good reputation around the country, and many people don't like us. When I moved to Santa Fe, on my first day of school, the gilrs couldn't believe I was from Buenos Aires, cause I was "nice"

Choupi
03-05-2005, 06:49 AM
So that's as simple as that? Thanks for answering me Jazz! :)

Sounds good. You'll do great in it.
I have a couple of choices I'm mulling over when I obtain my teacher's certificate-whether I should get my master's in education or in educational psychology and counseling. Both choices are quite appealing to me at the mo. Right now, I need to find a summer class to take. I want to do as much as I can to finish this program-and I still have yet to hear from mr. placement coordinator/program director about further information about the program interviews. I will contact him tomorrow or talk to another student. He's seriously dragging his feet.

If the jerks that run this office are clamping down on "unauthorised use of the Internet", they certainly won't let me come to a party during working hours - so I feel a bit like Cinderella who can't come to the ball :bigcry: But have a drink on me guys, - and congrats Jazz. I can leave here in a couple of hours so guess I can survive my Internet-free afternoon.

I hope it’s never too late to congratulate you Jazz for your graduation. Best of luck in the future, with your Masters degree and with finding exactly the job you want. Well Done! :) :wavey:

I'll see if I can do that next week, but I don't see it!
All I know is that there will be an ice-cream and chocolate exhibition, and my dad will be there, so that means I'll be there eating!

You'll be fine jazz and 2°C is good weather, except in B.As it's humid and that effects the temperature as well.
