martinatreue
11-15-2002, 08:29 AM
Cool. I just really like Albert cuz he is so humble and down to earth. when he won the French Open he said that he never thought it would happen to him. He was so ecstatic to win. :D

Beto 30-15

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 08:31 AM
Beto 40-30

Both Carlos and Albert have similar games but Beto's weapon is the one-handed backhand and Carlos's weapon is the forehand. I just love one-handers for some reason.

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 08:31 AM

Carlos breaks back 3-4

I don't want Carlos playing a 3 hour match before his SF tomorrow.
so go Carlos
Potato or no potato

TheBoiledEgg
11-15-2002, 08:43 AM
OMG that game from Carlos

Costa 5-3

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 08:44 AM
Yes they have similar games.

Al comes to the net more than you know. And Carlos is also 85% baseliner.

Also I don't find Al's game boring. That's just your opinion but I don't know what it's based on considering they both use heavy topspin are both very very physical players with a lot of finesse and guile. Of course their games are not exactly the same but Al's and Carlos's are the most alike of the eight players in the field.

Beto broke again 5-3. :D

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 08:45 AM
Well I do love me some potato but I would rather see Al in the semis cuz my favorite potato has done enough this year. He should go fly to Kimmie

TheBoiledEgg
11-15-2002, 08:51 AM
Costa 2nd set 6-3

I didn't want the potato in the semis either but i'd rather have 100 pts more for Carlos

either way now Federer plays Costa/Hewitt in semis
and Moya vs Novak/Ferrero

Ad Beto Second Setpoint. Good fight back from Break point!

YESSSSS! Beto takes second set. Now just TAKE IT EASY CARLOS!

You have already qualified and need to conserve your energy. ;) LOL!

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 08:54 AM
It's win-win situation for me since I love Carlos, Lleyton and Albert. Too bad that Marat could not win anything at all.

Also taking a set off of Hewitt, a set off of Moya (and a very close TB) and beating Safin after being down a set should now put to rest all of the disrespect towards the great Albert Costa

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 08:56 AM
Moya to serve first in third set. Now just take it easy Carlos. ;)

40-30 Beto's gotta be getting tired. Not that Carlos has had easy matches either. :D

Carlos 1-0.

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 08:59 AM

martinatreue

well if carlos were a smart strategist he would just go out and see this as a dead match. I know it's not the best sportsmanship but fighting like hell for this match which he does not makes no sense. I guess he would rather that Lleyton be there in the field since he has beaten him four times in a row.

40-0 Carlos.

hey viva, how ya been? I really thought it was great that you went back and apologized for jumping all over Lleyton. Nice of you! Too bad you don't want Al to be in the semis cuz he is a great guy and a real family man. His close friendship with Alex Corretja is quite unique among top competitors. :D

I get so sad when I read some of the comments on this board. It's like no matter what players do they are not respected. :(

15-40 BP's for Al

Deuce This scoreboard is just weird.

Carlos leads 4-3

martinatreue

Keep fighting Albert. You should have won that first set!

martinatreue

That's a wussy way for Carlos to win. Why not keep the scoring thread nice considering I happen to be rooting for Albert. Your remarks are rather antagonistic and unnecessary.

I think you're exaggerating. There's no need to call people beto-haters just because they criticize him. If someone says Albert is useless indoors it doesn't mean he or she is a hater, he or she might even be a fan. It's simply a statement of fact. He hasn't done much of anything after his RG win. The fact that he raised his game for Shanghai and played beautifully is really great. :) But it doesn't change the previous fact.

There are some haters on this board, but not many and they mostly concentrate their hatred on other players, not Beto. ;)

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 10:01 AM
Likewise Viva. ESPN just showed some highlights and both guys really have incredible finesse. :D

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 10:05 AM
Layla,

Albert had a back injury and that is why he did not play well indoors until now. Hater is an exaggeration for sure but calling someone useless is very disrespectful. Sorry that you cannot see that.

Albert played great here. Just a point in the first set TB was all he needed but such is tennis. Blaming Al for making Carlos tired is silly. AL needed the win to qualify but Carlos DID NOT! I don't think Carlos should have tanked but to expect Al to just not try makes even less sense. Carlos could have conserved his energy. He chose not to.

KFS
11-15-2002, 10:06 AM
Bloody Hell :fiery:

I believe Moya should let this match go to reserve his energy for the Semis and strengthern his chances into the Final.... He did himself a bad move......

For those of you who do not want Hewitt to advance but cheer Moya to win tonite, I hope you guys won't regret!!! :o

Jorge
11-15-2002, 10:07 AM
i saw the match complete. was really leveled. they fought bravely I don't know why Carles fought so hard. Later at the third set Beto had a back injury and after that, was all Moyà. Beto could win it without that back injury
at the end Beto seemed to be really disappointed and Carles sad because his friend lose his chances, specially because the injury.

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 10:09 AM
KFS you are right. I don't get it. I guess the media twisting Hewitt's words got into Carlos's head. He really didn't need to do all that. He will be tired.

martinatreue
11-15-2002, 10:12 AM
Carlos could have taken it easier from the beginning and had so much energy for the semis. I guess he doesn't see that as honorable or maybe was worried about losing his good form? Pete Sampras, for example, would conserve his energy wisely in matches and tournaments wisely. It's just part of a bigger picture strategy.

vaiva
11-15-2002, 10:13 AM

points + money + 3-0 W/L record

if that is not enough for trying to win, I do not know what extra motivation you need

as if Novak/Ferrero won't be tired tomorrow, whoever wins today :D

Jorge
11-15-2002, 10:14 AM
everybody is helping Lleyton: Agassi, Marat, Moyà...
Hope that Roger could crush him!

Layla
11-15-2002, 10:22 AM
Jorge, you forgot to mention Juanqui! :p He helped him out the most. Btw, you can't say that Beto would win if not for the injury. He never really seemed like he was the likelier winner of the match in the 3rd set. In the first few games he was in trouble in every one of his service games, while Moya had an easy time with his. Until 3-3 that is.

Carlos said in an interview before the match that he really wants to win this match because he wants to go to the semis with a winning 3-0 record, not having lost the last match. So confidence was obviously more important to him than fitness.

No, I don't see that as hugely disrespectful. Nobody said he was useless period. We all know some players are great on all surfaces, while others have strong preferences. Of those with preferences, some can hold their own on their less prefered surfaces, while others seem to be pretty terrible on a particular surface. How saying that is an insult is beyond me. And Albert wasn't injured throughout his hard court season, he just wasn't playing very well and that's nothing out of the ordinary. All players go through slumps. Juanqui was pretty useless in the beginning of the year on hard courts. Yes, he was injured a lot of the time, but not all the time. Yet I'm still able to say that while having huge respect and love for him.

Albert had almost the same number of breakpoints than Carles. The match was undecided until the injury of Beto.

You haven't read well my post. I said that Beto "could win it" being completely healthy. And yes, also Ferrero has helped Lleyton.
Well I suppose that when you are lucky, you are lucky!

Yes, you did say could. I appologize. :o
