I'm probably not going now. :(

Only going to US Open qualies/1st round.

And Sania Mirza is disturbingly pale. She's giving Frazier good competition.

Yes, I went to the tournament in Montreal in 2001 and 2003. I also was there last summer in 2004 to see my friend try qualies in a 10K. I like Montreal.

Montreal is a beautiful city. I should know; I see it in the distance every day. I went to the 2003 TMS CAN in Montreal, and it was wonderful (but I didn't have access to the Center Court, so I didn't see any big names...). This year, though, I might meet my idol!!

My brother has and I have a few friends from Quebec. I have never been to the tournament actually, myself and North American tournaments aren't the best of friends.

Don't worry about being amused, there'll be enough entertainment for you while the tennis isn't on.

I'm also looking to go. But I have a stupid question. Do you need to speak French there or do most people speak English? Because though I can do a smattering of Spanish ( which is good since my faves are all Spanish speakers) I know zero French.

And those of you who are definitely going...where specifically are you staying if you are staying in a hotel? I am flying blind here and will appreciate any suggestions.

you don;t need french.. most people do speak english..
and people are pretty friendly so don't worry about getting lost. someone will be there to help.

Unless you run into the whore at the metro booth like I did. Then you'll get a lecture in rapid French that you don't understand, all because the stupid whore didn't pay attention when you showed her your ticket the first time.

Thankfully, most people aren't like her. I hope she's gotten hit by a train since I was there last.

Yes, Session tickets. And unless you HAVE to see a player that is going to be on center court up close, don't bother getting sweet centre court tickets. You can watch the match on the wide screen in the park or watch from the third level and it's not that bad. You'll save money that way. If money isn't an issue and you HAVE to see Roddick, Federer, Agassi, etc. up close, then go ahead and splurge for the second level, if there are any still available.

As soon as my mom and I have the same day off.. which for her will be soon because finals in the HS start this Friday, then it is just up to me to not be a workaholic. Today at work I was like, "I need the $, schedule me as much as you want." lol... this way they cannot hate on me for taking so many days off for Montreal if I work a trillion days now.

Anyway... my paycheck should seriously come tomorrow so, as soon as I get it I am sending $146 to you. Okay? Okay.

mistry
07-10-2005, 01:57 PM
The transport system is pretty decent here. i don't have a car and i get every where the bus and metro. most buses come every 20 minutes or so. and there is only a 5 minute walk from the metro to the venue
The area around the Tennis stadium is kind of a ghetto.. you won't get mugged or anything, but do yourself a favor and don't walk around with an expensive camera around your neck. but the park itself is beautiful..

Transit from your hotel is a breeze. You don't even have to go outside to get to the subway from there. In fact, you don't have to go outside to get anything in that area, apparently. That hotel, the train station, some underground food court mall thing.... it's all connected. If I recall correctly, you'll have to transfer metro lines once, but it's nothing.

Chloe le Bopper
07-12-2005, 08:08 AM

Just remember to aim for my bottom lip so that I can not have to deal with the tests I have to go thru the following Tuesday :yeah:

Are they forcing people to have to buy Court 1 tickets like they did last year to the women's tournament if they want good seats?

last year for womens tour, there was just one side of the court where you were to have tickets... i think that will be same for this year for mens...

I'm going, too, for the first time. Question for those of you who have gone before, do they let you bring food and stuff into the stadium, or do you have to buy everything there? Also, does anyone know when the draw is going to be made? I'm getting excited, and can't wait to find out who I'm going to get to see play...

Paul Banks
08-04-2005, 05:08 AM
You can bring your food... And you really should because food is expensive there.

I think the draw will be made Friday.

Tomorrow there's an exhibition match downtown I think.

Glad to hear you can bring in food. That expense really adds up if you have to buy it there.

Another question... I didn't buy my tickets yet because I wasn't sure if I would actually be able to make it. Now I know I can - for Sun through Wed.
So, my question is...is there any reason to order them online now for pick-up there or can I just wait till I get there and get them on-site? Is there ever a problem getting tickets the day of an event?

Tickets question part 2

Also, I noticed on the tickets website that the Sunday session says $10*.
(*free admission at gate - limited quantities)

So if it's free admission, why would you buy a $10 ticket? Or is the limited quantities something like the 1st 100 people only? But it doesn't specifically say what the limitation is. Does anyone know anything about that?

I guess if I'm waiting till I get there to buy my tickets anyway, it really won't matter for me. If it's free, great. If not I'll pay. I'm just curious.

Paul Banks
08-04-2005, 04:51 PM
It's limited quantities... If you get there at 10am, you get a free ticket for sure. After I don't know.

You can wait Sunday to buy your tickets... But to make sure, I always buy them at least one week in advance. Sometimes 300 section can be sold out so you have to buy a 200 ticket.

I don't want to scare anyone who still hasn't buy their tickets, but they're breaking a new record (again, more than 150 000 tickets sold already) and it's not *out of question* - even if it's unlikely - some day sessions might be sold out, so better to buy all your tickets tonight or tomorrow.

I'm saying that also because... With all the amazing first round matches, the first 2 days will be very popular.

I only have tickets to day sessions. IF this JCF/Coria disaster is a night match and I cannot witness and wave my flag, you will see a riot.

I figure that COria-jcf will be a big court, where I paid for the crappiest tickets possible. Screen for me

Anyways, I just bought them. I LOVE that they made me buy each ticket seperately so that I had to pay the fee TWICE. That's nice. A 40 dollar value for 55 dollars.

I'm going out now to destroy something.

And I thought going to subway with no wallet was bad.

Worst case scenario it's the night match Tuesday, but I'm sure they'll put it the last match on CC during the day session... Knowing what happened with Coria the last 2 years at the Canadian Open, they probably won't put that match as a night session.

Just out of curiousity, since I've never been... how big IS the centre court exactly? Like, will JCF and Coria look like ants to me if I'm in the upper levels but not the super upper levels? lol

They will look like ants, yes, but the atmosphere is dandy and it doesn't hurt to use those tickets. I would just prefer to watch it on the screen they set up ;)

I may never get to Toronto/Montreal because it will always be the week before Cincinnati and being only 12 minutes away from the site I can't even fathom not going. Here in Cincy it's raining - hopefully this means we won't have a million rain delays like last year.

Thanks to everyone who gave me such good advice. I just got back from Montreal, and had a BLAST. I really had no idea what to expect, never having been to an ATP event before. I had no idea you could get so close to the players. Wow! I even ran into Carlos Moya at the airport on my way home yesterday. Unfortunately, I was so star struck I didn't get up the nerve to say hello. Unlike my friend who met me in Montreal (and knows absolutely nothing about tennis!) who was on the same flight as Grosjean on Friday. She saw his tennis bag, and asked him if he was playing in the tournament. When he said yes, she mentioned that we were going to go see some matches while we were out there. Grosjean offered to try to get us some tickets, to which she replied "no thank you!" IDIOT!!!! Who cares if we already had tickets, we might have ended up in the friends box! I just about killed her when she told me what happened. Her reply to me was "Oh, is he a pretty good player?" Geeezzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
