On the other hand, amazing what they call 'indoors' nowadays. The court is slow as hell. :rolleyes:

Perhaps people called Costa useless indoors because it took him untill 2000 to WIN a match indoors.

Not to mention that most players here have won more in one season that Costa has in his carreer (yes, even Ferrero).

It is not like they had to basis to say such things.

Well I don't think that there is some law that INDOORS has to be a fast surface. From what the announcers are saying it's middle paced. It's just that both players use quite a bit of topspin at times. :) Also the criticism of Al has nothing to do with it being INDOORS. They think he cannot play on hardcourts which is silly because he has had quite good results at the US Open and in Australia last year where he reached the quarterfinals. :)

hmmm...MY critism of Costa came from his indoors performance :) I have never suggested he can't play on hardcourts. In fact I don't have an explanation for his pitiful indoors record, I just know it exists.

I suppose you are refering to the commentators thoughts?

Hey, I would have said the same about Albert before this match. :)

It's probably that, when he plays in a 64-draw indoor event, he knows he is very unlikely to win the whole thing so he isn't that motivated.
For this one, he is, of course. When you are there, you want to do well. Has there ever been a player who totally sucked at the Masters ?

Yeah I am talking about the commentators. I really don't think that players who are clay court experts but who do well on outdoor hardcourts will necessarily be bad players indoors. It could just be that it helps other guys' serves more than his but fundamentally it's still a hard court. Even if he has not done well indoors in the past I feel like if you have had good results on hard courts outdoors then you should at some point be able to do okay indoors. And playing this well against hewitt is just impressive considering how little the commentators expected of him.

Stich also lost all 3 matches (1991 ?). He was pissed that Becker got all the cheering. :D

But just because you lost all 3 doesn't necessarily mean that you totally sucked. I was rather looking for players who didn't even try (probably Berasategui).

give albert credit please. he's fighting and held his own against the much more favoured Hewitt. Al's a clay court expert as we know. It's not his fault that (a) he qualified and (b) the tournament is held indoors. If it were held on clay, Al would most probably have beaten Hewitt. But it's not clay, so give him credit for making a match of it at least.

The championships has been held indoors for as long as I remember, and the players which "totally sucked" just don't have games suited to fast surfaces (it used to be faster carpet). It's not their fault.

Becker, Sampras, Rafter, Ivanisevic and Stich would all have struggled if the surface had been slower, whereas Berasategui and Costa would have excelled.

Even when the court is indoors, it's still faster than the same court outdoors because the pressure on the ball is greater, and there's no wind.

Safin and Ferrero have lost in straight sets, Costa has fight three agaisnt the number 1 and favorite to win the tournament, that's all that i need to say about it ;)
