Andy Roddick = #1 again?

During Andy's trophy presentation after ripping Saulnier a new one... Andy said that he was very unconfident in his game before the tournament, but he's now jubilant and the world is his for the taking.

That's very scary.

Andy should have beat Lleyton in the SF, and he even had diarrhea then.

Now that Andy is full on confidence and playing great, I think he's the favorite to win at least 2 slams in the 2005, and regain the #1 ranking over Roger who's playing a "mickey mouse" tournament in Europe next time.

For the people that saw this match... not only was Andy hitting tons of BAM aces, but he bageled Saulnier. A truly heroic performance.

Look out world! Andrew is back! Be afraid!

i'm a big fan of andy but he was extremely fortunate not to go out in the quarters and considering he has no chance at RG i would say he is unlikely to win both wimbledon and the us open.

federer, safin, and hewitt are all currently playing better tennis than andy. he is better than hewitt but the other 2 i don't think so.

he definitely has a chance at wimbledon but i think federer's unlucky loss at the aus open is really going to be a positive for him because he is going to really want to be dominate again.

Costa, Hrbaty, Berdych, Henman, Nadal, Kuerten, Safin and a healthy Nalbandian are the best players in the world. Even an unfit Roddick, Scott Draper, Davydenko and Gaudio managed to choke against Federer.

It's difficult to manage that with:

Australian Open - SF
San Jose - WIN
Memphis - WIN, probably.

Ginepri could have a big clay court season. His game is suited for the surface, and I'm expecting at least QF's for the TMS events.

Sure: their head to head is 3-2 in favor of Roddick. I don't consider that "owning" ;)

One of those results was when Andrew was a wee lad, just starting on the tour.

Thus, 3-1 record. With Marat's one win coming when he played with perfection.

I think Roddick can play LONGER than Hewitt can career-wise, but I personally think Hewitt is better than Roddick.

Hewitt moves better and has a game with more variety, albeit slightly less power. But, the kicker is in the mind; Hewitt doesn't quit easily whereas Roddick is just ever so slightly weaker mentally.

I doubt Roddick can seriously be the World's #1 player. Federer's game is so much more complete, and Safin has so much more power from the baseline.

blosson
02-14-2005, 10:12 PM
Hewitt never gives up, he never gives up getting engaged. He's obssed with the marriage institution

Federer is playing great now, people forget he wasn't that great a year and half ago

Safin is playing great now, people forget he also has his ups and downs. It took him 5 years to win his second major

Andy too has his highs and lows. He's on the climb so never say never. You might be surprised by the end of 2005 ;)

erik-the-red
02-14-2005, 10:40 PM
Blosson, indeed, for someone who turned pro in 1998, it took Federer a relatively long time to win his first major title (five years).

That was really his coming of age.

Safin is famous for his success swings. Looks like he's in the middle of nowhere...BOOM...a major title final.

Andy Roddick number one? Not anytime soon I'm afraid.... at present he plays with a lack of confidence/intelligence/patience against the really top players
