Good. This opens the draw for Nadal or Gaudio.

What to say... ?

Great win for Puerta of course, but this is no good for Moya. I feel Moya needs to get something going in Indian Wells and/or Miami to gain some confidence.

I could see this coming, i actually thought puerta had a chance of beating him :yeah: gaudio was my pick to win the tournament, and it seems the draw has opened up for him if he can defeat the ugly boy tonight.

Am I the only 1 in thinking that Carlos has bought a 1-way ticket out of the top 8?

I think it's all over for Carlos. He will fall out of the top 20 soon. He has a LOT of points to defend soon.

moya was extremely lucky to get through early rds of chennai let alone win it. his DC victory over roddick was nothing to write home about.

moya has done nothing special for while now.

How does he manage to stay as a top ten then?

Moya is an awesome player, and a top 3 on clay...

Last season he won Rome TMS (the 2nd best clay tournament)

beat andy with two tie break sets at DC last year.

all of his chennai victorys were very , very closely fought , not convincing.

AO , what a shocker.

the last thing he did that deserves any merit is make QTRs at athens (his 1st rd match went 76 67 97).

if you read my post carefully you would have seen that i said "done nothing special for a while".

moya is living of points gained in 1st half of last year. :)

His second part of the year wasn't great... Semis in Umag, Quarters in Cincinnati and Athens, in the Masters Cuo beated Hewitt and Gaudio and lost to Federer...

Moya was known as a bad Davis Cup player.... he even said that match against Roddick was the match in which he felt more preassure in his hole career... coz if he lost he was going to be remembered as a looser. So his career and reputation was in risk... and he played great tennis, and beated Roddick in three sets. Two tie breaks? what did you expect?

Yeah - he has struggled a little. I wouldn't read too much into the DC victory - the crowd and the occasion probably made it extra tough for him, and the fact that Andy sucks on clay too.

But yeah - you are right. He was lucky to get to the final. Garcia-Lopez had him for the kill in the semis and Paradorn, another player who is really struggling, almost had him in the final as well.

The problem is that the bar has risen the past year and Moya and Srichaphan are two players that haven't adapted too well to it.

However, Moya is still dangerous and I doubt he fall out of the top 12 this year. He has a Monte-carlo title to defend soon which could drop him out of the top 10 but not into the wilderness.

I'm somewhat worried about Henman. A back injury is ruining him and he hasn';t exactly been Mr. Consistent in tournament results for over 2 years. Things could get quite nasty for him soon.

Nope, I think so too. He really needs to get something going in the mandatory tournaments anyway cause the competition will be fierce with Gaudio, Nalbandian, Agassi, Johansson and Canas (and maybe even Haas) all going for that top 8 spot.

"The Door Slams Shut in Moya's Face" - surely that should be the headline on the ATP website? Apparently not...

I doubt Moya will drop out of the Top 10, he has nothing to defend at IW and the players ranked below him have big points to defend themselves - Henman has an IW final, quarters at Monte Carlo and semis at RG to defend, Gaudio of course has that RG title, and Nalbandian earned most of his points during the clay court season last year as well. Despite the massive amount he has to defend in the spring, Moya will probably stay in the Top 8 just because his challengers for that spot will be losing points themselves. Pity, but I sincerely hope that by the end of this year someone will have displaced him.
