a thread to talk about good and bad moments of tennis history.
i will start with one bad moment.
in davis cup tie chile and argentina in year 2000 zabaleta was winning massu and chilean fans started frowing everything to zabaleta, chairs, bottles, etc.

willie, I read about that incident here on MTF. A bad day indeed.

February is Black History Month in the US. Two good tennis days:

:D Althea Gibson becomes the first black American to win Wimbledon in 1957. See a bio here:

:D Arthur Ashe Jr. becomes the first black American male to win Wimbledon in 1975. See a bio here:

Bad Moment: Does anyone exactly remember what happened in a CD match between Paraguay and USA? Paraguay defeated USA 3-2. Victor Pecci was Paraguay's key player. I was young but I remember the crowd was extremely hostile and aggressive toward the American players.

Good Moments: Wimbledon finals between Edberg and Becker.

I was going to say that one. It was fantastic, but on a little downer note for us Brits that would love to see him win Wimbledon, I fear that 2001 was his real only chance to win it.

Also at Wimbledon, Sampras in 2000. I rememeber it was almost dark when the final ended, and you could see all the flash guns go off in the dusk. Just amazing.

Arthur Ashe Jr. becomes the first black American male to win Wimbledon in 1975.:yeah:

I can agree with that...not so much because he was black...but because he's a hometown hero. Every time I play on the courts at Bryd Park...I think...Arthur played here...and I am humbled. A wonderful man, player and ambassador to/of the game.

As an NC State alum, I'll always have Jimmy V's words in my head: Don't Ever Give Up, Don't Ever Give Up. In tennis, for me, that is best defined in the 2002 DC tie, Australia v. Switzerland...and Hewitt's 5-7, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-1, 211-minute marathon victory over Federer. And so even when I'm down...and seemingly out...I won't ever give up and this is one of my best memories of The Game. No money (per se) was on the line...just two guys dukin' it out...with their country's pride at stake.

As for the bad moments: just pick a time Connors and McEnroe mixed it up at the US Open...or anywhere else for that matter. Both were outstanding players...but their behavior (which always seemed to get worse when they played each other) was downright embarrassing.

Is it a nice match ? i wanted to buy it on Ebay but I don't know if it'sworth it in terms of quality of play, suspense, etc.
Some genious encounters could be surprisingly boring... ;)

From what I can remember yeah, it was a pretty good match.

But others may know better than me as my memory of it is pretty hazy... I have slept and got drunk many many times since it took place, and I only have so much RAM to give over to remembering tennis matches!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

:D I do that!!!!! I can't count the amount of times I've gone out when someone has been serving for a match, or a penalty shoot out in football, and as for the Grand National, I can't watch that at all!! (I'm too afraid that my horse will fall!!!)

It's amazing how many fans do things like that!:) I made sure I was out there for like 15 mins before checking the result! It's nerve-racking then watching it on playback on video.

For me it was the Olympic doubles final last year. The atmosphere was great, even though the tension was killing me. Alas, the result wasn't the right one from my point of view and Germany came sooo close to winning  But rightly or wrongly, I will remember this match for a long time to come
