unfair on safin

Sorry i have not been about, it s just my f**ckin' scool work, really getting the better of me.
Call me silly, but i find it really stupid that marat wont the ozy open, and doesn;t tkae the number 2 spot, but hewitt does. I know its a point system, and hewitt was always above on that. But there has to be some one who is as pissed off as i am. I reckon safin deserves it, but plenty of you are gonna say otherwise, aren't you? only natural......

The hole point of the entry ranking is to rate the players over a 52 week period. If Hewitt has more points than Safin it's because he's had better results than him over 52 weeks and not just one tournament.

Should Gaudio be #3 since he won RG? :p

52 week system.

Hewitt hasn't lost before the quarters of any tournament since Toronto last year, that's why he is no. 2 in the world. Safin, admittedly, hasn't lost before the quarters since the US Open (or did he lose second round in Moscow to Stepanek? OK, since TMS Madrid at least), but he nevertheless has two first round exits in Slams over the past year whereas Hewitt has reached at least the last eight in every Slam since RG, plus the TMC final. Expect Safin to be gaining considerable ground on both Hewitt and Roddick in the rankings during the summer hardcourt season, until it's crunch time when he has those indoor points to defend.

Or, expect Marat to return to oaf status by then, and lose a bunch of early round matches.

Hewitt is nr.2 because he reched in 2004 the 4th round that means he has got 150 pts. ( championsrace points 30*5=150 )for the entry, Safin was the runner up that means he has got 700 pts. ( championsrace points 140*5=700 )

in 2005 Hewitt became a runner up 700 pts.
Safin a winner 1000 pts.

Hewitt; 700-150= +550 pts; 4140 pts.
Safin; 1000-700= +300 pts; 3360 pts.

Well, listening to his interview after the final about how Lundgren has instilled self-belief in him at last, I believe a consistent Safin (of sorts) has finally arrived. I wouldn't mind being proved wrong, but now that he's become the first Top 10 player since 2003 to defeat Federer I doubt there will be too many first-round losses to Marc Lopez and Dmitry Tursunov this year.

Lundgren will be fired in less than 6 months. :p

The point system'd been developing and improving for many years I guess. And there's no reason (for me at any rate) to have some doubts of its validity and fairness.
I like Safin.:) But he has to work hard for this status (#2) all this year.
I'll be very glad if he reveals all his talents:)
