He's still around the top 100 isn't he? And he won the French mixed with Golovin I believe. It's just a shame that he hasn't quite had the success we imagined. I remember when I first saw him playing Agassi at Kooyong when he was 16, and thinking "crap.... this guy's only a bit older than me and he's taking a set off Andre"

It's sad when the best things you're known for are:

1) Being really overhyped.

2) Ending the Bovina slam.

3) Having his sorry ass in Smash Court 2. Federer or Gasquet? Gasquet! Arghhh...

He had chicken pox during the AO, I think. He's alive somewhere. I'm sure he'll come back. People talk about him like he's 25 already. :p He actually made some progess last year, if we ignore his multiple retirements and occasional defaults, what with his first semi and final.

Didn't he get arrested last year?

That was just a hilarious, wild rumour. In truth he merely got defaulted. Sometimes fiction is better than reality.. but just sometimes. LIke this time.

Bed time :)

Richard is french. It means he was very good on the junior tour, a future champion, like many other french players before him...
The problem becomes when they arrive on the atp tour, ...injuries, mental problems, pression... they're all fragile psychologically, it's a fact.

Uhh he is very much alive. He did have the chicken pox which has kept him from playing lately but he should be back next week in Besancon.

I don't know why, but somehow it seems that in France they tend to break their own players... even at my level (which is really bad, I suck... really) we're always told we're too stupid to play well, etc.... if you're told that for a while, well you can't have a strong mental situation.

Marine, you're right. Eric Prodon, Nicolas Mahut, Julien Jeanpierre.... France has so many great juniors who just can't cut it in the pros.

Monfils is who we should be focusing on.

There's a real talent.

What is this thing about adults getting chicken pox? Don't they get innoculations? Chicken pox is terribly serious when an adult gets it. It took Juan Carlos and Lleyton ages to recover fully.

His girlfriend Pinocchio had it too.

Chloe le Bopper

Was that ever actually confirmed? I know that I cracked a lot of jokes about Richard and Tat sharing diseases, but for some reason I didn't think she actually had it.

Leena
02-06-2005, 03:28 PM
ESPN mentioned she had it about 1000 times in her 1st round match... and gave that as the excuse for why she played so crappy.

how true...but only because they have so much pressure from the french press and federation and so on...
