Bertrand JOLIOT Truc 02-24-2007, 07:30 AM The summary: He's been in Besancon since last Saturday and was almost out against Oger. Yesterday's match was special since they're not just in the same team with Thierry: "He's my sparring partner and roommate during tournaments. We had only played once against each other (Bronx 2004) and he had won in 2 close sets." Thierry was serving very well yesterday (211 km/h in the 2nd set): "He was at 80% on his first serve and I had no other choice than to attack his second serves." In the TB of the last set, he got tight at 5-2 on his own serve: "30 seconds later, it was 5-4, service Ascione!" But he managed to win it somehow. Then a part about his father and the fact that he has a famous last name, like Mahut and some other guys on the circuit. It doesn't bother him, he even finds that funny. "Except in France, and only in the tennis world, nobody knows who my father was. That match against Connors? I watched it on video since I wasn't born at the time. To be honest, I had a good laugh." They are very close with his father, he calls him after each match (his father will maybe come to Besançon for the semi-final and surely be there on Sunday if he makes it to the final.) The title: "Not even tired!" He's very surprised it was so easy and is even wondering if Gilles was injured. But Gilles answers he was fine, he was just mentally completely off compared to the other days. Edouard jokes about the fact that his run in Besançon is comparable with a Grand Slam, based on the number of matches. You have to be a great player to win big tournaments and he knows he'll have to show great tennis today because he already played Gulbis in Tampere last year and lost in two easy sets. I watched Gulbis' match yesterday, he was very impressive indeed, so good luck to Edouard! Oh well  Cherbourg next, where he is also playing doubles with Thierry! Allez! Truc 02-26-2007, 06:49 AM And the article of the local newspaper about the final:Gulbis, roi du suspense Embarqué par Edouard Roger-Vasselin dans un troisième set périlleux, le prodige letton Ernest Gulbis a su retourner en sa faveur une situation bien compromise. Du grand art ! THISE. ». Bertrand JOLIOT ~EMiLiTA~ 02-26-2007, 08:52 AM shame he couldn't win that final but oh well...still a good overall result. Bonne chance à Cherbourg!
