Quite impressive, yes. Also, they've done it with no real stars and also less depth in their squad than several other nations. Well done! :yeah:

Well, great news that. Hope Canada make the semis today. Leading the Davis cup and Fed cup rankings in nice, but I still feel sad the Czechs just missed out on direct qualification to the Olympics in curling. We were 1 winn short of that in Victoria, BC.:sad::sad:

Great stuff. Well deserved given how Berdych and Stepanek have devoted so much of their careers to Davis Cup.

I think they'll defend their title. Such an easy path now.

Well if you have a two man team that really steps up. Specially Berdych, you have players like Murray and Federer who only plays for themselves, and you have Berdych who is dedicated. He has single-handedly carried his team with most of their ties.

To be honest, lots of luck and dedication was needed to clinch the No.1 spot.
On the other hand, Czech Rep./Czechoslovakia has lost a bunch of Davis and Fed Cups in the past, because Lendl, Navratilova and Hingis left the country due to communism and ended up as foreign citizens.
As for other small countries, Serbia has been also doing great recently in both men and women.
Now it's time for Aussies, Swedes and other little powerhouses to step it up. :drive:

Czech is playing great tennis in last few years.

Well done by Czechs, completely deserved.

There may countries that have more depth but two excellent players is enough in DC. That's just fair for smaller countries. And even then bigger countries can rest their singles players and have specialists for doubles like Spain. But last year's final showed tennis isn't only clay and slow HCs, Czechs are better fast surface players than Spaniards. If only we'd have those fast courts in slams and Berdych could be the first Czech men's singles GS champ in years.

 The only thing it showed is that Nadal doesn't much care for Davis Cup.

Argentina will be a tough win for the Czechs, but it will be a great tie.

I don't really see how it will be tough if Berdych plays. It won't be on clay either.

Argentines will have Delpo, so it could come down to doubles.

That's the thing: they won't have Delpo, unless something miraculous happens.

Why wouldn't they have Delpo? Has he stated that he won't be playing?

Yes, I've been fussing over this for a while now, probably sounds like a broken record, sorry. Basically he probably resents being booed by the Argentine crowd after withdrawing for injury last year, and also doesn't have a good relationship with Martin Jaite, the captain, and then there was some confusion over a text message about his desire to play, so he found out from the media that he wouldn't be playing against Germany, and then he just said, I'm done, no DC this year, time to focus on individual career, etc. Said in a Spanish article that it was a "tema cerrado," so doesn't like like much wiggle room.

Well then, Czechs will have the big advantage but you never know. Argentines could win the same way they beat France - split, win doubles, split.

Delpo's a sensitive soul and the argies will pay for that booing fiasco.

If he does win a slam, I hope he won't end up like Petr Korda, the current coach of Stepanek.

I agree. On the other hand, if CZ had 40 million people like Spain I bet you there would be more Berdychs, Stepaneks or Kvitovas and maybe even a new Lendl.

Rosol is GOAT and Sexy is the man. Too bad BerdSh*t is on the team, they might be my favorite team then. Still though, this ranking is a bit of a joke, Spain could be in the euro-zone II and they would still be #1 seeds to win.
