this is actually the only open quarter this week and could go either way.

I think exact the opposite, with an injured Berdych and a reconvalescent Stepanek, I have full confidence in the Kazahk team, while I think all other rubbers are open.

Have a feeling Czech Republic will still win, even without Berdych.

Radek is gonna play doubles and third day rubber.
Besides you've to consider how Hajek is going to be a dangerous threat to Kazak men on clay.

I think Kazakhstan have a decent chance to pull the upset. No Berdych. Stepnek not playing on the first day. Stepanek would be rusty at best. 34 year old playing his first match in over two months, recovering from neck surgery, and on his least favourite surface. The same Kazakh team beat CZE(with Birdych) two years ago in CZE.

IMO, Clay specialist Hajek's matches will have a big role to play in deciding the outcome.

Btw, with Berdych out, why wasn't Dlouhy chosen in the team for doubles with Steps? Did he make himself unavailable?

Dlouhy's doubles results were basically non-existent for the last 2 years. Rosol/Minar/Cermak would all be ahead of him for 2nd place.

Golubev is going to camel-stomp Rosol

I forgot that Cermak was CZE. My point is that why not take a doubles specialist for the doubles with Stepanek. Surely Stepanek/Dlouhy or Stepanek/ Cermak is much better than Stepanek/Rosol which will most likely happen knowing Navratil's tactics. What is Minar even doing in the team? There is no way Navratil is going to give him a rubber, so why not take a doubles specialist when you have two to pick from? Of course, this is only valid if at least one of the two has made themselves available for DC.

Dlouhy hasn't had good results for some time now, but a doubles specialist ranked ~50 is much better than a doubles novice(Rosol) ranked ~150.

Funny, because Rosol appears to be pretty upbeat in the home press. He knows Golubev very well from practice sessions and beat him on clay at the Naples challenger in 2008. :p

He's a completely different beast on Astana clay.

No doubt. It would be a tough match for both.

Golubev vs Rosol? Be lots of 40 shot rallies in that one.

Kazakhstan to win this 3-1 I think.

Kazak's tend to play above their ranking at home and Hajek isn't that much of a clay specialist.. I think Kazakhstan gets the upset.

Would be hilarious if Kazaks got the upset, they'd be absolutely disemboweled by either Argentina or France in SF

Rosol will likely win at least 1 though, Czechs should win dubs, and if Steps is remotely healthy a singles. Should still be Czechs.
