Murray in 2 -If he plays like he did in sets 2 and 3 then he will deffo.

I am a great admirer of Ferrer and if he won at least it would shut a few people up on here! so no result is disastrous but an Andy win would be just wonderful especially cos he gets the #2.

It's funny how people were moaning how bad Miami is with all these mugs making the last 8, but it's ended up with two top 5 players in the Final. Of course, Tennis will still be dead to them, because Murray is a pusher with no forehand, and Ferrer is a vulture pusher, the people who wanted top players to be in Masters Final's always find a way to complain.

I hope this a as an amazing 2 set match as you can get, I don't particularly like vulture, but I respect him, and of course I'm a big Murray fan. How sweet would it be to see Murray win a great match in 2, shutting idiotic haters up once and for all.

Murray played great today against Gasquet. He was more aggresive, played inside the baseline, was not afraid of his forehand. I had a great time.

I'm starting to wonder (not accusing, yet) if results aren't preordained by the ATP.

First we had this, PRIOR to the semi-final matches, thanks to Simplet:

Gotta love how the ATP players page is currently featuring both the Murray-Ferrer H2H and Murray's stats in master finals. Way to be subtle guys...

Now we have this today from the ATP:

"The Scot, who will surpass Roger Federer for World No. 2 on Monday, has won 18 of his 20 matches this season." (http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2013/03/13/Miami-Friday2-Ferrer-Murray.aspx)

Hmm, so curiouser and curiouser.;) Last I checked, Andy Murray will only surpass Roger Federer for World No. 2 on Monday if he beats David Ferrer.

Maybe it's worth starting a separate thread about this, to keep track of these subtle (or not) ATP match winner declarations?

One sure thing, I'm not going to bet against Murray this match...

Respectfully,

USO. Fed's last slam was Wimby.

I think even without the ranking Murray was already the defacto #2 on hard courts.

Same way regardless of rankings Rafa is #1 on clay.

He has been horrendous, but when he played Gasman he upped his game and played some sublime tennis in parts which he had to as gasman was at his best ever. Snowwy
03-30-2013, 02:05 PM
the US Open date is nearer than the end of the year, and the period until the US Open is better for Ferrer than the end of year, that's why I mention it because it's possible that Ferrer gets to number 2 after the US Open and then loses it in the end of the year.

"Arbitrary" : every date is arbitrary, including the end of year. But anyway there will be rankings made after the US Open, like every week of the year, and if Ferrer gets to number 2 at that moment, he will have been number 2, just as Haas has been number 2 for a few weeks, and people keep on and on writing it everywhere even though Haas had far less ranking points at that moment than Ferrer has now

(Ferrer would have 4000 points with the ranking system which prevailed between 2000 and 2008, it's the maximum number of points that any player who has not been number 1 has had since 2000, Del Potro had a maximum of 3845 points, and Coria 3770 points ; Haas was number 2 with 2945 points, and Sampras, Agassi and Safin were number 1 at a moment in time with less points than Ferrer has now)

That's fair, I just wondered why that date. But its interesting.

is that really what you saw in Murray-Gasquet semifinal ?

Gasquet played his worst match together with the first round against Rochus. He played better in all of his other matches. And I don't speak of Gasquet's best ever

Murray will definitely need to cut the unforced errors against Ferrer, who will play far less short than Gasquet.

Gasman played superbly in all his matches with exception against Chokus. He was terrible in that match that's true, but come on, in this match he was on another planet compared to that one, on the same level as he was previously against Berdman. The best I have seen him play since... well... I don't remember the last time he has played so consistently well like he had in this tournament.

Obviously I agree on your last point, goes without saying.

I'm not sure I understand this "provisional" ranking?
Is it meant to predict the ranking at any point in the future, or does its predictive value diminish with time?
Who would be the provisional #1 one year from this coming Monday?

Edit: Sorry, I should have posed this question in the rankings thread.
Thanks.

The provisional ranking is duong's list of the rankings on the points earned solely in a particular period of time. He does this generally for slams. It is like the race to the slam instead of race to London. It helps in predicting seeding for that slam as you don't need to understand which points will be dropped. Points will only be added(or in some cases they will replace lesser points in the best of other tournaments section).

He is obviously the second best player in the world(maybe even the best), so having him at no.2 can only be good for tennis.

In terms of results, yes, he is number 2. In terms of playing attractive tennis, he barely makes top 30

What is with this 'hooligan' nonsense? Andy is the epitome of middle class. He is competitive on court and shows his emotions. Does this make him a 'hooligan' in tennis terms? Only if you have had an extremely sheltered and dull life. Time to leave the basement and experience life in the real world, because if you think Andy is a 'hooligan', I shudder to think what life must be like for you....

Disgusting stereotyping. Expected better from you.

He's cut down a large amount on the swearing now, he still has some anger outbursts, but so what, it's better for him to let it all out then bottle it up?

The "along with him being British" seems to suggest that you think so. Seems that being British just adds to to it in your opinion, which means you think hooliganism is something British people tend to show. So yes, you are.

Plus, hooligans attack OTHERS verbally, not themselves. Andy swear and berates himself, never anyone else. Learn the difference between angry tennis player and hooligan.

Murray slapped Fed in this years AO Semi Final, shoulda won in 3 but clowned about to make the defeat more painful for Fed. What has Fed done since then? Has only made one other semi final due to playing fat mugs like Jaziri in Dubai, who even took a set off him LOL. It's safe to say Andy is to thank for Fed's form dropping even more.

To be honest, I'm starting to like Murray much more now. There is a new Murray who is less brat-ish, and is trying to be more ofensive. My playing style in ping-pong (because I'm not that good to compete in tennis) is very much like murray's.
The problem is Murray fans here are some of the worst of the whole lot, specially sapeod. It's because of them that I like not to root for Murray.
