Miami R4: Cilic def. Tsonga 7-5 7-6(4)

As expected, Marin reaches the QF :woohoo:
He had one abysmal game, first game of the second set when he lost serve the only time in the match. Other than that, he was very solid, didn't make a lot of his infamous unforced errors, kept the ball in play, hit it nicely and let Tsonga self-destruct. Marin just too good.

Oh, and: [Warning: Clown alert]

Cilic and better ranked players  . Tsonga may be as shitty as ever but still Cilic would find a way to lose

:haha: :haha:
When you want to bet, just go with the opposite of what this guy says, made me rich.

Good win for Cilic. His ROS looks excellent. Good opportunity for him in a TMS to go deep. Poor from Jo, mind you.

Tsonga was 2:0 up in second set, then had three break points at 3:3 *0:40. second set should be his but he clowed it away

Not bad from Cilic but Tsonga was abysmal :help:

Marin :yeah:
He was better player today. Better serving, better receiving, better moving, better at net, better at baseline an still only 7-5 7-6. Deserving result. But he has no chance against Mister Pusher.

I prefer Tsonga but I was kinda rooting for Cilic here, just because he is is clearly better right now

Better player won, Tsonga has been hopeless for how long now?

Actually didn't feel like Cilic did anything special. Lost a whole bunch of long rallies that he shouldn't have.

Nice from Cilic, Tsonga was too erratic and couldn't cope with Marin's consistently excellent returning. Hope he can do something vs Murray tomorrow, it is certainly possible if the mental scars from last year's USO debacle aren't too big.

great win for marin:) was afraid he'd lose this but he played a really good match

murray up next so i dont expect much. Maybe he can banish some demons from that beyond epic melt down at the US open

Murray awaits in the quarter finals, will Marin bend over for him or will he go up a set and choke away the match?

I think Cilic could finish this year in the top 8.

Yea yea, he has plenty of work to do, needs to overcome his 2-16 record against Top 15 players in past 12-14 months.

Really? It was Cilic who was destroying Murray in US open until he realized that he was doing it all wrong, he wasnt building his legacy, but he got it in order pretty quickly after it.

Good one Cilic :yeah:
Murray is beatable on this surface, but more probably he'll choke.Anyway a good tournament for him.

Marin can be very dangerous when he puts it all together, which rarely happened in the recent times. However, if can keep it up, Murray will have his hands full

Jo played terribly. Murray will eat this guy up.

Well played by Cilic... his return of serve were very good and he played really well in most of his service games. Tsonga was too erratic and sometimes seemed like he was playing without interests in the game. Too much slice, too much net approaches, too many errors...

Let's see if Cilic can beat Murray.

Tsonga is quickly becoming a scrub away from France or indoor courts.

Tsonga was beyond pathetic but still credits to Cilic for not being his usual self. Rasheed is big time overhyped as coach and his cooperation with Tsonga just confirming that, for now.

Could somebody make a gif of that Cilic's smash in first gem of second set ? Absolute epic, even for his standards

Fancied Cilic's chances to win this, well done to him. Would like to see him have a good year. After he's obediently bent over for his master, at least.

He definitely seems to be more of a fitness coach than a tennis coach. He succeeded in buffing up Hewitt, whose tactics then changed for the worst, and he made no positive impact on Monfils, who reproduced the same nonsensical old tactics.

I'll hold out the verdict on Tsonga though, because despite these poor performances of late, his backhand has looked at its best in AO this year.

Tsonga isn't getting dominated by the top 10 anymore. He's getting dominated by players OUTSIDE the top 10.

Expected fail from Tsonga, given his atrocious form of late. Lol @ those who thought he had a chance in this match.

Not a bad score considering Jo only had 54% First Serve In. Not breaking from 0-40 was the crucial moment, although there would still be another set to contest.

Horror performance from Clownga; his ROS was nonexistent, and he struggled in every single one of his service games; Cilic was nothing special, just waiting for Tsonga to clown everything away :o

I may be wrong but i feel Tsonga is only targetting Slams (and french tournaments :o) this year.
The difference beetween his level showed during the AO (particularly against Federer) and all his other matches this year (including when he won his title against Berdych) is a bit suspicious to say the least.
