The real #10 and better one-handed backhand won.

That nerves in this match were all over the place, especially in the last few games.

Great match. Lot of vamosing/allezing.

Gasquet continues his steady year.

Good match. Gasquet is finally adapting to the elite pace of tennis, Sanya should be pleased by this performance.

Every one of Almagro's hard court losses this year have been painfully close.

Some amazing rallies in this one with 2 of the best 1 handed backhands in the world, if not the best.

I thought it was an awful match :tape: Almugro was dire, hitting every 2nd shot into the net and reached a total of around 60 unforced errors. Gasquet was pretty much just moonballing.

Once again Gasquet had an extremely slow start. Completely messed up the first TB. Should have been a two set win. He was still far from his level in the Rochus match(2nd set).

Next up, Berdych or Querrey.

That backhand at 3-3, 15-30 in 3d set by Richie... You won`t see this kind of shot twice in your life.

Match was OK, not as great as drama though, but decent. The most positive thing for me is Gasquet`s attitude here - he came back from two breaks in 1s set, earned two sps only to lose the set then, but didn`t lose focus. Gasquet 2.0 here we go. :worship:

Nice match, but Almagro must have the worst tennis brain in the tour. Lost his serve in the 3rd set asking for a hawkeye that he even knew was wrong (he was sitting before the replay was showed). Even if Gasquet lost his serve dumbly immediately after, he couldn't play steady enough to capitalize.

Still, this should do good to Richard, this year he is becoming a fighter. Now, if only he could beat Berdych...

Game of chokes

This

In the first set, Almagro led *4-1 and *4-3 40-0, then Gasquet had 2 SPs at 5-4* 40-15. It went to a TB, and Gasquet won only 1 more point from *2-1 up. In the third set, Gasquet got broken from *4-3 30-0.

The quality wasn't great. The two TBs were especially poor from the respective players who lost them :help: Gasquet did hit an amazing BH at 3-3 30-30 (?) in the third though

:yeah: He was fighting the whole match - it`s always almost the only thing I want. Now crash Berdych, please. ;)

Richard's fight and more effective first serve won him this match. Overall, he played too passive and often points were on Almagro's racquet, which he happened to mess up more often than not.

That was last victory for Pusher. Very physical match. Can't see him beating even 30% of T-Berd.

It wasn't that bad of a match. Not every exchange that ends in an error is low-quality. You had a lot of intense exchanges between these two, with Almagro usually being the aggressor and Gasquet weathering the storm and moving him around.

Richie's ability to displace his opponents with angles is really quite underappreciated, and he did a great job of unsettling Almagro with them today.

I did not predict the gasquet comeback at all. He had set points and then he lost the first set and I thought he was done.

Good job richie :yeah:

Ditto - everything you said. Match was decent with a few fantastic shots and some  shots as well. Some may say Gasquet was just pushing but he moved Almagro around well, ran down his shots and SMARTLY waited till Almagro missed or till he had a clean opening for a winner - that's NOT pushing, that's just SMART tennis. Gasquet certainly could have been more aggressive but against Almagro the smarter play was to let Almagro self destruct.

But it was Gasquet's attitude, fight and fitness that got him through this match. There were many opportunites to just pack it up for Gasquet but he didn't, he kept focus, stayed positive and did not give up. ANd yes I said fitness, that was a very physical match - many long rallies for over 2.5 hours and Gasquet looked like he still had energy to spare.

Allez Richie 2.0!

Fairplay to Gasquet though for holding his nerve.

Huge scoreline. Almagro has looked cooked mentally since the AO debacle.

You'd never know the way his enormously large head still tremors with every overdone "vamos" he cries in any one match.

Great result. Richard came back from being a set down and won TB in the decisive set, that's all that matters to me as a Gasquet fan :cheerleader:

He's never been as far from the top players as he is right now so let me laugh a little bit about the "Gasquet is a different player this year".
Oh yes, he is different in the way that he would now be lucky to score more than 5-6 games in a set against the likes of Djoker, Nadal, Fed, Murray, Berdych or Del Potro while he was regularly capable of taking sets from them few years ago.
So much for the improved Gasquet....
