Really?? *goes to check draw* You right! Ah hell! Poor Clement has to play Hewitt AGAIN. Wonder if he'll win. Would be ugly if he did. Feds vs. Santoro sounds interesting. And Calleri must beat Mirnyi.

A'ight! VAMOS GUILLE! Ugly draw. Shit.

It starts Monday, no? ESPN and ESPN2 have blocks of time for coverage . . . lets see if there is anything but Roddick on the screen or the Williams sisters. (they are still playing right or did they drop out too?) One match that could be really good . . . Rochus vs. Keifer. Rochus is on such a roll and Kiefer is such a powder keg.

Naw, starts...monday. Which would be sunday for us. Grr. I gots to keep up with the AO and watch NFL football? I'm gonna die. We're gonna lose!! :hysteric: (Colts that is).

ANYWAY! Looks like Guille will get Fererro in the 3rd round. If uhm, Juan can get his stuff together. Nally will seemingly get Fernando (Hernandez Mongato Mungatez) Gonzalez :haha: in the 3rd. SO! Uh hmm, that's an interesting match. Nally vs. Gonzo.
Overall this draw looks pretty exciting :scared: Hey! I hope I get to see Guille vs. Hewitt *prays* The match I long for!! Would be awesome.

Henman vs. Saulnier looks fun! Go Tim
Yeah the William sisters are still in it thank God. I hate the fact that there's no Henin-Hardenne or Clijsters. Blah. That sucks like hell. No Capriati. Looks like it's gonna be all boring AGAIN. But hey! I still gots Mauresmo! What exactly is WRONG with Justine anyway??? Gosh. She wins the Olympics, then she disappears again.

Rochus vs. Kiefer sounds good. C'mon Nicolas  I want to see him get pissed off :haha: The BEST tantrum in all the curcuit!

won it! :woohoo:
6-2,6-4,6-0.
Guille was very aggressive, he totally under control the whole match. He played very clever and experienced. Berdych was totally upseted by Guille, many errors. But he has a very big serve, sometimes guille can not return his serve very well. Once guille returned his ball then he made many winners! Guille run everywhere, and Guille was very wise that he always changed technic abruptly which made Berdych totally didn't know what to do.
oh, sorry, Berdych, he was totally crashed. I hope I make sense. :)
Congratulation Guille:worship: for your first win!

He wrote . . .

Hello all! Honestly, I am really happy with how I played against Tomas Berdych. I served well, never lost my concentration and felt that my shots had the depth I wanted", Guille began saying by E-mail.

El Mago continued his analysis: "I am also comfortable with the way in wich I returned his service. Therefore, I was able to capitalize almost all the break point chances I had, and that was the key to my victory:

-Guille won 81% of his points with his first service (34 out of 41) and 67% with his second service.

-His effectiveness in the net was excellent, winning 14 points out of 16 tries (88%).

-He also won 57% of the points in which Berdych connected his first service, which led to 7 break point chances accomplished out of 10 chances.

All in just 1 hour and 40 minutes.

"That was another positive aspect of the outcome of the match: Having won it in three sets is important. It is really hot out there in the court, and the less energy I spend in there the better. That will make the difference as the matches go by".

El Mago analysed Brazilian Ricardo Mello, his second round rival: "There you have a lefty who loves to take risks from all over the court. He hits the ball pretty hard with his backhand as well as his forehand. So I don't think I want to get in "punch to punch" fight with him. I have to be intelligent to play my game. If I do so, I have more chances in advance".

"Well, I have to go now. Thanks again for all the greeting for my birthday. Big hug to all of you…".

Guille

I wonder what it means that Guille had to fight and scratch and claw out a win over Mello. It doesn't leave me too confident for his next match.

It means if he didn't fight and scratch and claw, Mello was gonna kick his ass. Mello had 57 winners and was serving better than Guille. Guille was cramping cuz he didn't eat enough that morning. Plus he wasn't concentrating very well. But through it all he held impecable composure with great mental strenght. Mello was indeed a worthy opponent. Guille said he was more happy with this win than the one vs. Berych.

I want Guille to win but I guess I won't be too disappointed if he doesn't. I know he will do his best. And I guess I'm the only one around here not spilt between Guille and Juan cuz I root for tennis, not for looks.

does anyone know if JC & guille are good friends? i've seen a million pictures of them together and they seem to hang out a lot. Since guille never beat him before (though they havent played in a very long time), if they're very close, it might play a factor in the psychology of the match. I love them both--not just for looks, but they are 2 of the smartest, quickest, talent-based players in the game; both top 5 if they are healthy and in JC's case, confident.

looking ahead, the only time coria met hewitt was on hard court and it was close 6-7 6-3 6-4, so it should be close if he gets to that quarterfinal.

"Very long, very hard, very late - after midnight there -most of the spectators have had to leave. Coria supposedly got injured in the first game - called for the trainer." that was also from the 2nd set. so...there you have it. he's got to do something about these injuries.

Yeah I saw it on TV  I couldn't belive in it. Why he again?? It's not fair. So bad that he had injury if not he could win this. He wasn't running like always. He was trying really hard but in the end he just stopped belive that he could win. :bigcry:
I guess he was really tired it was 2 am. They shouldn't have been playing in that hour. It was stupid

fabolous
01-24-2005, 03:53 PM
ok it's over but we should not forget that guille played three great matches here. today david was just too strong for him.

@boliviana: hewitt and molik needed so much time for their matches, that guille started playing at midnight

about the injury: well, i wouldn't say he was really injured, cause he was as fast as always :) maybe it was a little bit hurting in his groins, but nothing serious i think (i saw the whole match). he would have lost to david today even if he was completely fit.

ayena
01-24-2005, 04:07 PM
I don't want to argue with you fabolous but I think that he wasn't as fast like always. But you're unfortunatly right that David was great today, just too good for Guille

The groin "injury" was becaused he strechtech too far for a ball. He was ok. But indeed, Nally whooped his ass. He was very nice though. He was making sure that Guille was ok in that first set, so that was cool  Was all good. Guille did a great job. Now on to...Rotterdam ja? VAMOS GUILLE!

I wouldn't say he was being TOTALLY out played. The stats of this match are so close. And if you look at all the stats, you'd have though Nally lost the match. I swear! The stats JUST DON'T SAY NALLY WON. It's odd as hell. *sighs* but yeah. I think the slight injury threw him off his game. Instead of being able to concentrate on the match, he started worrying about his thigh. He didn't capitalize on all the oportunities he created for himself AFTER he frickin fought for them. Ok that'll get a "grr" out of me. So whatever. Next is Marseille I think. Long break. Then FINALLY the clay season. He's doing great. It's a long year, and it's only the 24th of January. Vamos Guille. Comeback player of the year ;)

:bounce: SI!! (though he doesnt have nearly so far to come back from as some others! )

i realize, since they finished at 2 am... :fiery: ...which was idiotic to make them do since they have been 100% onschedule and did not need them to play at night with no fans...and could have called it at 7-5 5-7 until the morning, and it wouldve been entirely fair... ....that there will be no postmatch interview. :D

i can't hug, i am still ill :(

guille outplayed by nalbandian? no way!! maybe the last set. but he was up 7-5 4-3, then he lost some important points (his breakpoint convertion were awful: 6 of 20 or sth like that  ). but it was close till the end. it is not a shame to lose against david nalbandian on hardcourt, i think. we should be optimistic :D

daze11
01-24-2005, 07:54 PM
its not a shame at all; but if you want to be--realistically--top 3, as guille does (and thats a very tall order these days, but i think he is realistic to envision himself there), you dont go around losing to nalbandian in the 4th round. Nalbandian is a great player who is there to cause problems for people who are NOT the top 3, and occasionally be the stepping stone for someone who is not in the top 30. but its hard for me to get accustomed to el mago not being at that more untouchable elite level just yet.

I think he lost to a very good player that tomorrow will kick hewitt ass but we all know he could do it better he just dont played like he should and david played very good the 2 last sets.

I think Guille was really really tired at beginning of thrid set. The match of Hewitt and Nadal went on too long so Alicia's match didn't start at the scheduled time (7:30 PM) so Guille got on court about 10:30 PM and I didn't get to see him the whole match cos I had to leave for the airport. I left Rod Laver about the time he called for the trainer in the first set. Guys, I'll post some pictures later this week. I couldn't take pictures when I saw him up close because we were in the area that I had to respect the players' privacy. One thing I have to say is that...as much as you think how cute he is on TV, the real live Guille is 100 times cuter!

Soooo sad that he lost! I was soooo nervous! When I turned on the tv he just won the first set with 7-5, and then I watched the whole second set and then it went down  He played sooo well!
It looks like everytime I watch one of his matches on tv he loses! :crying2: I watched the final at RG 2004 and he lost! The 1 match I saw him win was in the semifinals RG against Henman! After that never agaiN! But thats because they never broadcast his matches here!!
Good luck for you're next tourneys Guille!:worship:
