Yannick Noah: Result of a match between me and Djokovic - I lose 6-0 6-0 6-0.

After 30 years from his victory at Roland Garros, Yannick Noah explains how the memory doesn’t moves as once:
”since then I made other things in my life. What I made is important, but the memory doesn’t shake in me the same
emotion anymore. That day I entered the heart of all French people, their love impressed me, and I’m grateful for it.”

Noah, the last French to win a Slam tournament, as always speaks his mind, he doesn’t have problems making a comparison
between him and other French players of the present like Tsonga, Monfils and Gasquet: "The difference among me and them?
Probably I was much hungrier for victories than them. These guys take home matches that have to win, but when they have
to make that one more step to arrive at the top, they stop.”

Interviewed on the topic the former French champion admits to have cited the referee, who excused afterwards in a letter,
that accused him to have used doping substances in 1983, but above all explains his resentment towards the ones who didn’t
support him when he linked doping to Spain: ” It can be that sooner or later something will come out. I sided on first
line on this topic and I’m proud to have done it. I will always have great resentment for those people who didn’t defend me.”

At the end Noah commented on modern tennis and throws a challenge that would be hardly feasible: ” I can’t compare to these
guys, we don’t even practice the same sport. If I played against Djokovic my best tennis of thirty years ago, with the
rackets of that time, I’d easily beat him 6-0 6-0 6-0. I don’t like nowadays tennis, it doesn’t bring me the same feelings
that I had when I was the one going in court.”

Since I'm old enough only to watch him on youtube and such, would some older MTFer care to give his opinion on this subject? Only thing I can say is - go home Noah, you're drunk. :spit:

Edit: It seams that his words were wrongly translated and he meant that he would LOSE 6-0 6-0 6-0, but it wasn't on my side. See post 55 for the article in French.

Those guys with those rackets would beat any of these guys with /those/ rackets.

That being said, silly comment by Mr. Noah.

He is right on everything (ie French players hunger and doping) except the Djokovic thing... sign of being senile if you ask me, Djokovic is one of the best players of all time and thus far the best of his generation with Nadal, Noah is one of the better players of his era, but not even the best of his era.

This seriously reminds me of that Rocky reboot movie with Mason "The Line" Dixon challenging Rocky to a fight over who has the better era. Michael Jordan has said similar things about Lebron James (basketball).

1983 is not pre open era, dumb shit. Open a fucking history book or at least wikipedia before making stupid comments, Jesus

Noah is a legend, sure, and maybe with those racquets he would beat Djokovic, but 0,0, and 0? Lay off the wine, Yannick.

Yannick has a case of the "good old days." But, he's a performer, and I'm sure that he's always happier and more comfortable performing than he is sitting on the sidelines.

And people insulting him over his tennis career are just :cuckoo: Where does one get the idea that winning only one gs title mean that a person was a failure? Yannick was a great player and extremely talented.

What must you alll think of someone like Miroslav Mecir who never got a sniff at a gs title?

Mecir reached the final of the US Open so I would class that as "getting a sniff at a GS title".

It definitely fits better when you read the sentence before:

I can’t compare to these guys, we don’t even practice the same sport.

And he's right. Tennis has moved on and always will. Generally speaking, Tomorrow's top players are better than today's top players. Obviously there are more talented generations causing for exceptions in time, but the quality is rising as time moves on

that's from the l'équipe website : http://www.lequipe.fr/Tennis/Actualites/Noah-pas-le-meme-sport/358559
it's quotes from the article

On ne fait pas le même sport. Si le joue contre Djoko à mon meilleur niveau de l'époque, avec la raquette de l'époque, je me prends trois fois 6-0.

We aren't playing the same sport. If I'd play against Djoko at my prime with the racket from back then, I get triple-bageled (lit : I take three times 6-0)
end of discussion.

If you want a piece of news from France : The broadcasting contract of RG ends in 2013 and for 2014 there are rumors that France TV, the national TV network, wouldn't be able to keep the contract due to budget cuts. My networks are ready to broadcast the tournament : TF1, biggest private network in France, who broadcast the tournament in the 1970s and 1980s and owns eurosport France which broadcast the us open and the australian open, M6 who broadcasts a few matches in the season (WTF final), Canal+ who is broadcasting wimbledon and the M1000/ATP500 and BeInSport who appeared last year for the UEFA euro and is broadcasting the NBA, the French football league, the NFL, they even took the opportunity to broadcast the return of rafa in viña del mar.
Dunno when it is to be decided though. if France TV doesn't get the contract that would be a major shift from the past couple of decades and the end of tennis on free airwaves in France
