apparently i'm a statist:

STATISTS want government to have a great deal of power

over the economy and individual behavior. They frequently

doubt whether economic liberty and individual freedom

are practical options in today's world. Statists tend to distrust

the free market, support high taxes and centralized

planning of the economy, oppose diverse lifestyles,

and question the importance of civil liberties.

Not sure I agree with that though, maybe i'm harbouring a subconsious ambition to rule the world with a despotic iron fist :smash:

CONSERVATIVES tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional values." They oppose excessive government control of business, while endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.I respectfully disagree with one key statement. I absolutely, unequivocally reject the idea of government defending morality and the "traditional" family structure. Stay out of my bedroom and my doctor's office. And I hate our US federal tax system -- there shouldn't be a "married" category, nor should you get deductions AND credit for children.

And while I support required military service (for both boys and girls)...it's not because I believe in a strong military. I just believe it the best means of public service at important juncture in a young person's life. I would support a Peace Corp-like alternative to broaden opportunities but I really believe a 2-year commitment to the nation would be a good thing.

Otherwise, the last sentence is me. I abhor bureaucracy and think taxes can and should be lowered. It's called do less, with less. Free market is capitalism at its finest and I believe strong law enforcement by both the police and judicial systems is an important element to a civil society. We just need to overhaul the books a bit and get rid of antiquated laws that serve only to divide and incite. Selective enforcement is worse than no enforcement.

Sorry for the rant, y'all. Just last month, our state legislature approved a constitutional amendment proposition defining marriage as between a man and a woman. Hopefully, the electorate at-large will defeat it in our next general election. And we're having local elections here tomorrow...where they want us to approve a tax raise on ourselves. Give me a break.

probably about where I thought to be on the map

the most important thing to me is a government should care for its citizens.. not leave them to fend for themselves
