Great win. Sorry for Kohli, he has been kinda sleepwalking through the last few months it seems, but Goffin definitely needed this more. Next opponent is probably Almagro, who is very beatable. Just needs to avoid throwing away service games and he should be alright.

Woohoo! Great win, getting into form just in time for those Le Gosier points from 2012 dropping off.

111/206 points won on serve - That's 53,8%. How close is this to being a negative record at ATP level, especially over 3 sets?

Lenders, stop getting over-critical. He's just beginning to get some rhythm. Focus on Ferrer.

Who, except for a hater, really gives a fuck about that?

The only thing that matters is who gets the 'W' next to their name, and today that was David. :)

It's just statistical curiosity, I don't remember watching any other ATP match with such low % of points won by the server. I'm sure one of MTF's resident statisticians will have a better idea though.

Anyone with an interest in both tennis and statistics, given how unusual a stat this is in men's tennis.

Beating the worst player in the top 100 and an injured one is nothing to get excited about. Worst thing is he actually has a shot against Almagro

Gustavo!

But we can't help it! Its been so long, and I'm hoping his forehand fires against Almagro.:D

Nope. Which I don't really need to since my observation/question is purely statistical. Do you remember any other ATP match with such low % of points won by the server?

Pretty much any match on clay where Volandri plays someone else who is a midget.

How can the worst player in the top 100 be ranked inside the top 50?

Now, I could understand if you were arguing about someone ranked around 80 or 90 being the worst, but 50? No way. :p

Luckily he will drop out of the top 80 after Monte Carlo, which makes my case more believable.

Things haven't been so bad for Goffin this year. He beat two players that were higher ranked (Troicki & Kohlschreiber) and when he lost to a lower-ranked player it was still a player from the top 60 (Nieminen, Lldora, Bautista-Agut), except for last week's loss to Ilya Marchenko.

Nowhere near, I'm sure. Plenty of the coastal clay events will produce lower, especially when they're cold or windy (Estoril especially). On a lower year, some of them _average_ 58% or so.

A notable one off the top of my head: Djokovic-Nadal, Monte Carlo final 2009. 90/174 serve points won (51.7%).

Most Seppi-Cilic matches feel like 25% too, but I don't want to actually look.

I expected this result really.. Kohlschreiber hasn't played enough matches to really get his game back on the rails and Goffin is actually back looking like a talent this week (playing well in general).

Kohlschreiber hasn't won a match since the AO and Haase isn't much better so this has been a dream draw for Goffin.

That's not exceptional at all.

Just to give an example:
Belgrade 2011 R2: Volandri def. Marchenko 6-3 1-6 6-3
89/179 points won on serve = 0,497

de Bakker is almost back in top 100, Haase will rejoice. For then he will be the 2nd worst player in the top 100 :wavey:
