oumph that was close. but you see, rosie, i said he'll win and he did.:) and to make you happy, i say that he'll win against ventura, too.

btw ventura is from spain. i know him cause he won the ATP casablanca last year. i think he's rather a clay court specialist.

Thanks fabulous :) Actually I am not too stressed (yet) about Ventura -perhaps because I am just too tired!!? It was Ferrer that was really scaring me - and now you can see why

Well done on getting through, David! :D

Looks like a *very* close match. I had to work today so I couldn't stay up and follow it on the scoreboard - maybe that was a good thing actually!

Good luck in the next round David ;) Vamos!

Well I DID have to work today Raquel - that's why I'm about to go to bed now at only 8.15pm - I actually feel like total s***t! But the one good thing - imagine how much worse I would feel if he had lost!!!

Thank god I was at work and only got to check the results when it was over ;)

It took all the restraint I had not to go off on the TV set or throw things.
I was totally shocked at the second and third-set scores. He had oodles of chances to come back. I am glad, however, that our David stuck it out.

Absolutly. He didn't choke at the end, he kept fighting till the end even though it clearly wasn't day.

There's a reason why I said I'm not a fanatic. From what I read on this site, I can see that you guys always come up with excuses why he lost. last year it was injuries this year his father passed away, it reminds me an old russian saying that " a bad dancer for his bad performance always blames his balls are too big". I tried to make a perfect translation, but you know what I mean.

The question #1 right now who can chalenge Roger. You want to beat Roger do what Roger does. Believe me I want David to succeed I want David be #1, but he's got to change his mentality, stop getting frustrated for bad line calls, improve serve and get yourself pumped up every match you play.

Whatever!!! You are not a fan; you're a hater. Maybe some of us had excuses, but it came down to the same shit-he lost. We've learned that it comes with the territory of being a fan of his. If you can't handle that, perhaps you could cheer for another player, and leave this forum for the real fans.

Last year the injuries were all valid, they weren't excuses. And as for his father dying being an excuse I haven't read him mentioning it however even if he did mention it after a loss I wouldn't blame him as the grief will still be fresh.

We're not kids and we know what we're talking about...
So, you're a fan. What do you like about Nalbandian? Because till now I only saw you posting negative things about him. We know his serve is terrible and that he has a huge problem closing matches, and don't even get me started on the finals. But I found it odd that you came to a fan forum just to bring out the worst in him instead of supporting him. That's why I asked you that first question...

I'm a fan of Andre Agassi since he was 15 and David Nalbandian since WO final the match I didn't get a chance to watch. Aha! try Muster and Cañas as guys who fight to death even when it's impossible for them to win and not use Agassi as an example, you have lost it there. Agassi has catted so many matches it's not funny would you like a list? He catted it against Haehnel at RG last year, he has done it against Kucera, then against Costa and Bruguera on the Euro clay where he hasn't put in at all.

Hey guys! I was just watching a post match interview in ESPN, and the journalist asked him if it would benefit Ventura, that he had to play a 5 set match, but he said it wouldn't cause Ventura had to do that too. He also said that he doesn't know Santiago Ventura, so it will take him some time to figure him out, but since it's a long match, that's gonna benefit him for sure. He looked really calmed and confident. Who knows, maybe that crappy match helped him somehow...

Whatever, Niko, this thread is not about whether he shook hands with Youzhny or not. We've even shared our dislike of that action, too. Apparently, you have not read any of the threads, or you wouldn't have come over here to reiterate pointless drivel. All you've come here to do is bash. I've never heard anything positive-at all-from you concerning David. It's ok to "discuss" things, but you are clearly not here for that purpose. You're critically missing some screws. It's OK to be critical, but you must balance it with some positive things too. Is that hard for you to do? I am still not convinced that you're a fan; you're a troll. And, please, a period and a comma....for the love of all that's good and right.

That's critical; that's complimentary. In fact, I'm sure David would appreciate it. Criticism is supposed to be constructive; bashing is all-around negative. Which, of course, you were being. wow, i missed the battle here last night!!!

niko, you didn't appear here much before when he did some amazing performance, or you did maybe i forgot. Yesterday you reported his live match, it's the first time i read your post here. I think you are a David fan. Because only two kinds of people will care for his matches in the live time, and made report, one is his fans (no matter how fanatic), the other is his haters, like orange nightmare who only wants to see his ugly losing. Unfortunately, he played a "horrible" match when you appeared here. yes, i did watch the last 2 sets live. I first thought he didn't play postive and without energy, especially compared to Ferrer who always saved every ball no matter how far it is. But think another angle, wasting your strength to save every impossible ball in hot weather is also not that wise ;) and this is only the first round.

Anyway, if you followed his former matches, you should know he is such a player whose status up and down much. I still remember he did horribly in RG when playing Koubek, but look at his winning over Safin and Guga later. So you never can say how his next match will be.

I hope i didn't offend you, jazz and sigma, but i do think niko is his fan. He/She is just critical, and his/her chance of postive praising for David hasn't arrived yet :p and must admit, sometimes, i am critical too  tell you i want to kick his ass to the hell yesterday when i saw his serving like shit!!!

Nova, we've talked about this dozens of time-a point I tried to drive through Niko's skull, but he/she/it failed to comprehend. It's not that I'm pissed about; it's the sheer negativity that he/she/it comes with, seemingly with little thought or care given to what is being said.

Thank you Novanora for bieng a true fan of David's, I can watch David playing for hours and be mad at him and be happy with him it's like being with the kids, if the baby dosen't cry it dosen't get fed

You can see problems--so can I. I consider myself a perceptive person-unlike yourself. You're just looking at the problems and not solutions. I don't expect you to get this point overnight-seeing that it takes you fifteen minutes to respond to one post, while I've fired off three. Get a clue and a life, Niko. You're a waste of space and time over here.
You probably right, but I'd assume that most David's fans, not fanatics, would disagree with you. :)

Nova, we've talked about this dozens of time-a point I tried to drive through Niko's skull, but he/she/it failed to comprehend. It's not that I'm pissed about; it's the sheer negativity that he/she/it comes with, seemingly with little thought or care given to what is being said. It's OK, like I said, to be critical, but Niko's just being hateful.
yes, he was hating why david couldn't be up to his expectation in the match

you know, as such a terrible match he did, some negativity can't be escapable, but that can't prove he is a hater :p

You're critically missing some screws. It's OK to be critical, but you must balance it with some positive things too. Is that hard for you to do? I am still not convinced that you're a fan; you're a troll. And, please, a period and a comma....for the love of all that's good and right.
I'm just curious why you picked David?

hello, all! it has been a long time that I did not come. how are you? :wavey:

I read some posts in this thread... I know David did not play his best yesterday. but calm down pls. it was just the 1st match in the GS. he could get better and better. you know, the one who is playing the best from the very early might not get the champion at last. he just needs some more time. let's be more patient. he will be up sure!

nova knows that I am always unsatisfied with the hippo too. always blame him. but still I try to find some positive points from him too. otherwise why are we their fans? ;)

personally i don't, i like every david fan to be here, and i think you are his fan. But, see here is too much love, so you should keep your criticism moderate.;) not many people like criticism, because it's too bitter to listen.

Praise should be side with criticism to keep someone forward, and vice versa.

june, as we are good friends, and always keep touch in our Chinese forum, i do know you are another critical one too
yes, to be frank, i was quite scared by david's serving yesterday, even though i watched many of his terrible serving before. But i can never imagine keep fighting in so long time under hot weather, which isn't a joke to anyone. I always keep positive to him, and will do that in the future. He is not Mr. Perfect, and needn't to be. but believe as such a smart person, he can find his own way to up himself in the next match. If i don't trust him, why being his fan or fanatic so called....

Thanks, june for your kind words! and good luck to hippo too!!

I don't know if you agree with me, tennis is a sport of wealthy people like golf, most of tennis players are coming from wealthy families and we realy don't know what are those players motivated by. You can see how many players out there who never do well, but still around and have fans or so called fanatics. And the only reason why they're still around they have a good back up-money. And basicly they do not represent their countrys, they represent themselfs. The point I'm trying to make as a fan I have the right to be critical in any way I want I don't get paid they do. I was critical while watching Davids bad performance and I'm told by another fan to be out.

Hi - I have come very late to this thread due to the time difference and the fact that I had an early night last night. Firstly- Niko, -I do not agree that ALL tennis players are from wealthy backgrounds - some are that is true (especially in England where I come from), but it's certainly not true in Eastern Europe or Russia or the Far East for example.

Secondly - as a woman in my 30's who spent years working in the media and has met many tennis players personally, I somewhat object to being called a "fanatic" by someone who has never posted in our Forum before even though you are slightly older than me! Of course you are entitled to your opinions, but some of them seem more suited to the GM Forum where people talk about tennis generally and criticise often, - than in a Fan Forum that is here specifically for fans to support their player.

As to why I personally picked David - I "discovered" him at Wimbledon 2002 (my "local" tournament) when he came from nowhere to reach the Final. I loved his fighting spirit, his heart and his modest personality. Since then I have met him many times and still think he is one of the nicest, most modest, pleasant men on the Tour -and, as I said - I have met most of them. Yes - of course - he is an attractive guy- but a little too young for my personal tastes so I am not into him because of his appearance which is a criticism men often level at female fans.

Finally - as Nova said earlier - of course you are welcome fere - all fans of David are welcome - but please try to moderate your criticisms as this is a Fam Forum for fans of David and we don't want him or us to be endlessely criticised as we see enough of that elsewhere. Have to go now - I am due for work.

partly agree, but not all. i remember i met the tennis player Bjorn Phau last year in Shanghai Open. Definitely he is the one like you said, never doing it well (just according to his low ranking) and he did have fans like me. His mother is a German, maybe his family is well-money back or i don't know. but when i was watching him practising, i looked he was so happy and relaxed in playing tennis, even after he lost both single and double match in the 1st round. Bjorn is not well body-built for tennis, not tall and strong, but he really focus the match and never compared lower when fighting a player whose ranking is much higher than him. Definitely playing tennis needs a lot money, and you have to fight for your reward to keep that. but if you just stay there doing what wastes your time, then you'd better give it up not matter how strong the money back. Bjorn really likes playing tennis and fighting for it which still worth staying this sport world, or at least this is just what i think.

of course you have right to be critical, and i can see why they tell you out, because they think you are critical not after thinking deeply, which actually is pretty normal for many fans. ;)

Rosie if you realy think that Russian players aren't from wealthy background then explain me how an ordinary Russian with an average salary of $100 a month can afford to move to Spain and have their kids to play tennis, the same with Eastern Europe. Do you know how much it cost to be in the junior circuit? $60 grand and you telling me not all of them , i live in the states and make $60 grand a year which is a great pay in Midwest, can I afford tennis? In Thailand to be a member of a golf club cost you thousands. You picked David because he's good looking admit that I read your posts on his site all you say is how gorgeous he is.

In one of my posts I mentioned that I'm a fan of Agassi since he was 15 and David since WO 2002. I've read lot of interviews and David always come up with excuses like you. He dosen't like to play Roddick and Agassi in the USA because of bad line calls, he dosen't like to play Hewitt, Mikhail Yousnyi because he fakes injuries I mean you ever heard Roger says BS like that he plays anybody or going back to Sampras the guy was puking and still win, crying over loss of his coach and still win, Williams last Championship in Los Angeles hurting still playing female. i am back. i was watching AO matches just now and back, surprised to see the arguement are still continuing here

why are you attacking each other???? All of us are david fans, no matter how fanatic, no matter why we like him, no matter how we like him, why are we attacking each other??? i pretty feel sad and angry about it, used to try to keep the situation more mitigated, but now seems it's useless!!!

i checked all niko's posts, he didn't have many posts, so I read them. Definitely, he cares about david's performance much and support him if you check his posts in kooyoo results and who can beat Roger thread in GM. He is just critical type, and said sth you didn't agree, or a little bit extreme. but it will be bored if a world only has a one voice:"I agree" you shouldn't call him troll, or trouble-making, or fake fan without checking anything.

and to niko, why you feel pissed off they said david is beautiful, gorgeous........?? Not as you think, they are far more than caring about his looking. otherwise we can establish only one thread - "David Nalbandian's body visiting and appreciation pictures thread". I know about them for about 1 years, they are real and good fans, know more about his tennis. just because they are girls, it's pretty normal to pay attention to his looks, so what?

I don't watch tennis for long years like most of you. I still remember my first live tennis experience is 2002 TMC, and pretty start to like Roger at that time. I was impressed by Roger's great talent, even he was not a God like now. But when I watched his later matches playing against David, I was totally attracted by David. Those matches he beated roger are amazing!! I like his smart playing, and also his personality, which is so special and different in ATP. This is specially should thanks to Jazz and Rosie who provides so many articles of him, and let me know more about him. Of course not deny he is a good looking guy, but to tell you the truth he is not typical our Asian taste (Asian more like coria type lol) and also ATP have dozen of handsome guys. Definitely he is not considered as the most gorgeous one.

So you have different ways to support him, why you are attacking with each other?? I pretty hope every fan here can communicate peacefully, respecting others' oppinions. And if you didn't agree, just discuss and give reasons, not hurting anyone. Back this place to a nice forum again please!

Here is GWH's report from Tuesday's play pertaining to David's match.

Ferrer vs Nalbandian well what can I say about this match. It was a tough scrap which is Ferrer's game and it was obvious that Nalle had major nervousness playing against a guy that he has never beaten before and it showed. The 3rd set was very painful as he breaks, then loses his serve and plays a silly dropshot that almost bounced before the net on his side to lose the 3rd and then the racquet went into the court and I understand that frustration, but the best thing for him is that he grinded out the result and when it got ugly, he hung around and that can only be good. His next match against Ventura will be another scrap for sure as Ventura does have a good future and lost to Dent in 2 tight sets in Sydney on this surface. This section playes the winner from Gonzo/Andreev.

I bet that if David looses you will blame the hot temperatures in Australia.
If he loses in the next round it will be beacuse he played like crap or he did well, but his opponent was better, or he played like crap and his oponent was better.
The temperatures won't have anything to do, especially to him. Argentina has the exact same temperature than Australia, so he's used to it.

I agree Jazz - but I'm sure Niko will find another reason to knock him - and us as well  I don't want to harp on with this subject because I know it is upsetting Nova and I don't want to do that - but I have to honestly say I don't like Niko's attitude or manner at all, and if I answer him back it's not because of what he says about David (he is entitled to his opinions) but because of the manner he expresses his feelings in sometimes, especially towards the regular posters here. I object to being called "insane" and told I only like David for his looks - it is impollite to come into a Forum and behave like he has. Just my opinion anyway.

I agree, if we like someone for his looks we could find a model or actor. And to tell you the truth, it would be much less stressful! LOL
Whatever, if he really likes David's game and wants the best for him, then he should stick around. As Nova said, all of us want the best for him. But Nico must understand that there are ways of talking and I've been offended by some of his posts. And if talks, we will talk back, and he should accept that without attacking us.
But I think it's enough, all of us have clearly different opinions and won't be changed no matter what the other one said. So let's just leave it at that and let's keep enjoying David's game. Which is what we're all here for.

Let's us be back to cheering for our Nalbi ! :woohoo:
I think David needs such tough matches to feel self-confident again and I'm both glad and proud he finally got over his bad record against Ferrer !! :yeah:
It shows he's determined to fight ! I've been so happy to see him again anyway! :yippee: I've been missing him so much since Basel ! And we shouldn't worry too much I 'm convinced his game is going to improve as rounds go by !...in spite of an awful draw (Coria and Hewitt in the same quarter !)
However, he often goes very far when he's got a tough draw..remember in RG ! I wish him good luck against Ventura !
You can do it David...I believe in you ! :smooch:

Well - David's match clashes directly with Tim Henman who plays on Vodafone Court at the same time - so I have NO CHANCE of seeing any of David's match at all  So it's live scoring for me, and hope it doesn't drag on like the other one or I'll miss the end to get to work again  I personally don't know anything about Ventura, Ceci - but I'm told he is a clay court specialist and doesn't have such good results on hard court. But he is evidently another of these Ferrer/Coria type players who chases after everything and runs everything down and he won't have anything to lose at all out there, so no pressure. I think he may frustrate David like Ferrer does

if he is a smart man, he won't bump into the same wall twice, though i am not sure this Ventura is really Ferrer's clone or not. But he should learn some experience from Ferrer's match to cope with Ventura. Same type of player, and same playing time, probably same temperature. i can't see any reason he will lose this one.

Gaudio vs Hrbaty
Safin vs Ancic
Agassi vs Dent (Dent's been playing pretty well in the prior tournaments, I haven't seem him in Australia yet)
Lopez vs J. Johansson (the crowd should wear helmets!)

That's good to know.
I already said in another thread what you just said. Suzuki was great, and he showed some of Federer's vulnerability, and if the guy had had a bit more experienced, he would have beaten David, or taken a set or two out of him.
It was a great match to watch, in a long time, for the first time, it wasn't a monologue from Roger.

He doesn't approch the net too often, but he's not bad at it...maybe he should try it, who knows!
I think he is using some variations in his game, there's a cross forehand (I don't know if this is the best translation...) that he used a lot in the Bs As exhibition and he used it again against Ferrer and it did work for him.
In Bs As he had improven his set a lot, and it's soooo weird it didn't show at all against Ferrer. I hope it just wasn't a bad day and he can use his improved service in a real tournament...

I will just give up on it completely soon if it doesn't go back to normality - I get enough stress all day at work and I truly don't need it here - I don't thrive on rowing - it makes me really ill and unhappy - I hate it so much  - so if we're all fans of David why can't we live in harmony like we used to?

Anyway - seems I got up too early because even though Davenport and Massu are over they have put some stupid WTA match on before David  And just to make matters worse - our TV were showing Coria when I got up (at least watchable much as I dislike him!) - but then they switched to show Serena Williams - aaargh :banghead: :banghead:

Sorry for the rant and Vamos David.

have to agree now :o

OK Novanora good morning! How're you doing?
again, this is Australian Open thread!!! not making friends thread!!! don't distract it any more!! and if you really want to make friends with us, just share your thinking-over oppinion about david's tennis, not asking sig's privacy!

Is anyone watching the Coria/Mello match? This Mello guy is playing some brilliant tennis and is really pissing Coria off. The one time I wanted him to win fast

if you saw his match in last year Madrid and Basel, you can see he has good sense at the net, and very quick reaction. He approached the net a lot when in the later hard-court season last year, and pretty succeed if i say.
I don't have access to Tennis Chanel on DirecTV yet, but there's hope, I only watch his games on ESPN or ESPN2 which are rare unless he's in quarters or semis of Big Tours, I was in Moscow in June with a visit and that's where I watched his Gaudio match at RG quarters, I felt like crashing the TV box in the second set when he aws up 5-0 and couldn't hold.

I got to see about 2 games of it when I got up before Eurosport decided we needed to see Serena instead  I like Mello actually- he's a good player - and those 2 games were enough to remind me how much I loathe Coria - so petulant like a spoilt child :banghead: Hope you get to see David after him though!!

Ricardo has very good forehand, but quite crappy backhand. and he is the one who never gives up any chance. i had expected he can produced some trouble to Coria before this match. it won't be that fast.

BTW, willy won again today!!! :woohoo:

i watched both his clay matches and later indoor hardcourt matches, though many of them are videos, not live lol but have to say his tennis style is quite different on clay RG and hard court. He likes to play forward spin on clay, but more flat on hard court, and more attacking for sure. Also, he increases the net approaching, and also the drop, lob mixed up. He is pretty smart, not like other clay players who always keeps forward spin both on clay and hard court. of course we know he prefer fast surface.

and also his backhand, i just noticed he increased the slice and changed the playing rhythm by one-hand backhand, but attacking, giving pressure, making opponent running a lot by doublehand backhand. Of course, you can see this strategy and style from many players, but he mixed it up very well on indoor carpet, which really impressed me much.

if you watched those matches, you would see that.

here's Williams too, because she is playing a Chinese girl, so our tv must show this one.
