Amer made a few stupid errors in the last match of his that I saw, and I am glad that Jurgen beat him :tape: but he seemed to be a really nice guy, good attitude and a great serve (when it goes in!)

yeah, i was very hesitant on talking to him. but, without going into detail, i added him to something, and he added me back, which i then got his screenname. he shouldn't be adding random people if he doesn't want to talk to random people. i thought i'd IM him just to see if it was really him. it really was an innocent conversation, just me asking if it was really him. but i don't hold it against him if he was creeped out. he's not that famous, after all.

Not really. The tennis players I know, 3 things make them cranky - losing a match, lack of sleep, lack of food. I've dealt with all 3 and sometimes I think lack of food is the worst.

Amer is such a sweetheart. One of the nicest pros out there. When I needed help with a decision on college tennis he was so helpful. He deserves to do so well. He has been through so much in his life and I hope that he has a successful season.

i love amer...the only time ive seen him play was 2004 uso against moya but i thought he was so good, they dont televise any of his matches and i dont get the chance to go to many tounaments...but im glad i know this thread exists...now :wavey: :angel:

Joked a little bit after that about him swearing at himself in Croatian (Serbian?) when he was on court. It was a brief conversation, but it was nice. I look forward to seeing him play tomorrow. I'll try to get some pictures....

You were supposed to go to his forehand..." etc..... it was so cute, he was just having this running commentary with himself and he was switching between languages and stuff.

I really feel like Amer has all the shots to be like a top 50 player, but he's so inconsistent and makes so many UEs. He has a great all-court all-around good game, but he's just gotta get more consistent on the mental side I think.

I know I keep posting that in random places on this forum, but he really is. He just seems like such a decent man. Okay, that's based on a few brief conversations with him this week, but he behaves well on court, argues bad calls politely, and speaks a foreign language (Serbo-Croatian) when he really wants to get mad at himself! It was such a pleasure for me to watch him this week, I can't tell you why I like him in the technical sense, but he moves well for a big guy, I like serve-volley players in general, and he has a fabu backhand. When he puts it all together, it is just a joy to see. I really hope to see him movin' on up into the Top 100 in the next year or so.

Thank you Fee for sharing your adventures with us, it's nice to hear you had fun. Nice to hear those things about Amer too, he sounds like an excellent guy.

Well, his looks and his perfect legs do grab your attention, but he keeps it with his personality and his tennis. Hopefully, he'll get it into his head that he really is quite talented, and become more consistent. We've had an email from a man who claims to be Amer Delic's uncle, who told us Amer had won the final and thus the wildcard. While we have no reason to believe the man's lying we of course can't guarentee it's the truth.

Amer Delic was awarded a wild card entry into the 2006 Australian Open men's singles main draw after winning a six-player event at the Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Florida this weekend. The 23-year-old Delic of Jacksonville, Florida defeated Alex Bogomolov, Jr., 22, of Flintstone, Georgia, in the final of the wild card tournament, 6-3, 4-1 retired.

The tournament was held in conjunction with a USTA training camp last week for 18 of the top young professionals in the country, including world No. 3 Andy Roddick and No. 16. Robby Ginepri. The USTA invited a group of six American players, age 24 or younger and ranked between Nos. 150-300 in the ATP Entry System, to compete for the wild card.

The field was divided into two groups that played round robin matches. Delic and Bogomolov advanced to the final by winning their respective round robin groups. Other players who participated in the tournament were: John Paul Fruttero, Scoville Jenkins, Rajeev Ram, and Todd Widom. Currently ranked No. 164, Delic turned professional in the summer of 2003 after leading the University of Illinois to the NCAA team title and winning the NCAA men's singles title. He earned a career-high professional ranking of No. 142 on July 4, 2005. He reached the singles final at the USTA Pro Circuit $50,000 Challenger in Carson, California in October and reached the second round of the 2004 U.S. Open.

Last summer, the USTA gave Australian Mark Philippoussis a main draw wild card into the 2005 U.S. Open as part of a reciprocal arrangement which sees Tennis Australia give the USTA a main draw wild card into Australian Open 2006 to award to a player selected by the USTA.

His mental "instability" of sorts is why he hasn't had more success than he has had to date, unfortunately. He also yells at himself a lot, it's cute. He'll play one incredible point followed by one really awful one. I believe it's Ah-mar Delitsch. Pronounced, that is. ^^ His first name was 'explained' in an article, and the last name I'm guessing, basically since most similar names from that region are pronounced this way.
