My guess is that he will be on the Main Draw Only (MDO) list. That list consists of players who are alternates that don't want to try for qualifying.

Another unsure case is Tim Henman, who pulled out of Marseilles with a back injury. In an article on this injury, I found him saying this on his chances of playing Rotterdam:

"However, I’m hopeful that if things go well I’ll be able to play in Rotterdam the week after, but it’s still going to be very much a case of taking it day by day in the very short term to see how my back reacts and responds to the programme I’ve been given.”

Let's hope 5 more players withdraw so that Schalken gets a direct entry or that Kraijeck can't find a world top player, because then the 3rd (or 2nd) wildcard goes probaly to Peter Wessels.

CooCooCachoo

How is Peter coping with his back injury? Will he be fit for Rotterdam?

erikslomp

I know, but Kraijeck said that if he could get a top player, that player would get the 3rd wildcard.

I don't speak him actually. Only through his parents I sometimes hear something. But he's playing in San Jose main draw tomorrow, so I think it's going well, but we will see.

Does anyone know who of the top players is not committed for this week? Safin? Last year he didn't play in Rotterdam either, maybe he doesn't like Krajicek or something. If he can't get a top 20 player he'd best give it to Wessels who has been playing really well the last couple of weeks. Or maybe Jan Siemerink is still available :D

So no Safin, who else would be nice? As far as I can see a lot of players have left this week open in their schedule (Hewitt, Safin, Moya, Agassi, Canas). I'm not sure any one of these players is willing to make the trip to Europe for a single tournament though, so I'm guessing the last WC will go to Wessels.

CooCooCachoo
02-09-2005, 08:06 AM
My cards are on Monfils getting a wildcard. Maybe Nadal.

I don't see Richard giving all three of his wild cards to Dutch players. I just don't think it will happen

Cervantes
02-09-2005, 08:28 AM
Isn't Nadal playing in Brasil? He could give it to Monfils, but I'm not so sure he will. For the long term that might be a good choice though, to create some loyalty so he'll come back once he's in the top 5 (seems to work with Federer for now :)).

CooCooCachoo
02-09-2005, 11:03 AM
Yes, I think Nadal is indeed in Costa do Sauipe that week. I just don't think he'll give three WCs to Dutchmen. I think it will be two Dutchmen + either one talented young player / junior, or a veteran who is ranked too low to get in. It could also be a former winner.

SuperFurryAnimal

Too bad Baghdatis isn't playing, he's one of my favorite young players and I'd love to see him in action. No surprise Wessels got the WC. If Krajicek couldn't get another top20 player then this was the best alternative.

Not very happy with the decision to give Peter the WC. Although he is Dutch, I don't see how he would attract great crowds. I could have thought of better players to give the WC to.

like?

I can't see who he could have given the WC otherwise. Maybe a young, talented player like Monfils, but I can't think of any big names who are willing to come on such short notice.

The WC belonged to a Dutch player and Peter is the one that deserves it.

Has Rusedski not pulled out? What is the situation with his rib?

He has revealed absolutely nothing.
