The scoreline looks as if Carlos started a little bit rusty into this match.
But at least he won, even though I think it wasn't a great match...

yeah...I watched that match on tv...until midway through the second set when they cut the telecast off http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/boese/zeter01.gif ...Carlos was ok in the first...but he really looked like he was tiring in the second. The commentators said it was probably just jet lag. I know it's a disappointing result, but Radek is a tough competitor for the first round and Carlos would have only just arrived into Aus so he probably didn't have much time to relax and prepare. I still think he has great chances in the AO. Personally I think it's better he lost earlier in Syd cos now he has time to prepare for Melbourne. I think for someone like him, who gets tired quite easily now in his "old" age, it's a bit ambitious to play 2 tournaments before the Open...he should play Chennai and then just practise in Melb. I have confidence in him for the AO. Will post my pics when I get back!

yeah...I hope it's a good luck sign...I was getting a bit worried how he won Chennai beating Paradorn, which is exactly the same as last year because then I was thinking omg if history keeps repeating itself, he'll get to the final of Sydney, play Hewitt and twist his ankle again! I'm quite happy it's not the case and that he now has time to prepare for Melb. Even though he's lost some points here, he's not defending anything in AO. Mucha suerte Carlos!

Well, my friend is doing journalism for the tournament for work experience and he got a transcript of Moya's press conference last night. Moya said he would take today and relax, go sightseeing, as he has never had a chance to do that in Sydney before. He asked for suggestions, and someone said Sydney Harbour bridge climb, so he might've done that, I don't know. He said he would leave for Melbourne tommorow morning.

Margy
01-12-2005, 01:27 PM
Sounds like a good idea for him. I don't think any of these guys really get enough down time to just relax and regroup mentally.

So..Carlos, enjoy Sydney! Then hie thyself to Melbourne and do your thing the way we know you can!

Go Carlos!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Carlos is one of the faves for the AO. here's an articles saying that (I didn't post it entirely cos it contained tons bout Rogi Fed)

Another man with an early win under his belt after a strong finish to 2004 is Spaniard Carlos Moya, who successfully defended the Chennai crown.

The 1997 Australian Open runner-up took a set off each of the Masters Cup finalists - Federer and Lleyton Hewitt - in Houston in November, in fact those were the only three-set matches at the tournament.

In the Chennai final, 28-year-old Moya rallied from 2-5 down in the third set to beat Paradorn Srichaphan 3-6 6-4 7-6 (7-5), the Thai star showing some form of his own as he heads to Melbourne Park looking to at least repeat last year's effort, which saw him reach the fourth round before losing to Andre Agassi.

VAMOS CARLOS!

liptea

Kind of a shame that Carlos lost those two matches.

Jorge
01-14-2005, 01:10 AM
Carles got a good draw at ausopen till' 4th round then it would be really hard.
He will face a qualifier in the 1r, in the 2nd round Hyung Taik-Lee or Kim. Then he could face Tojo or Mirnyi then "if" he wins his potential rivals are Hrbaty, Fish, Soderling. at QF's could face Haas, Kiefer or Marat. then... Roger or Andre  at the final? Roddick or Lleyton?

But one step at time, one at time.

liptea

Well.... that's kinda what's meant to happen in grand slams for the seeds... Johansson and Hrbaty look like real tough battles... that's if those matches eventuate
Yeah, but he goes from two relatively easy matches to some dangerous floaters.

I'm worried about the Johansson match too. He took a set off Roger last year, right?

Yeah, but that was at kooyong, where Roger was just screwing around. But nevertheless, Thomas is tough. He has won this tournament before. But Hrbaty is the more dangerous player I think. He beat Roger last year in a tournament, I can't remember where

No, I might be wrong, but I think it was a TMC, in the hardcourt swing. I'll look it up.

Last night had to be the most depressing tennis ..ever!!

I thought , OH good. I can stay up and follow the whole thing because there is no school on Monday. But of course, that turns out to be horrible. Just horrible playing and horrible to watch. And even more frustrating because i could only see the scoreboard and not how he was actually playing. I finally went to bed right before the end because I couldn't bear to see that final lost game. I kept hoping I'd wake to a surprise comeback. But of course, no. Just more depressing horrible results.

Now, who do I support for the rest of the tournament? This just sucks all the fun out of the next two weeks. Blah!

Carlos, go do something to get yourself together. I don't know what ...maybe go meditate somewhere and figure out what happens to you when you see the words GRAND SLAM! Pleeaase! You still have lots of fans that wish you the best. You can still be the best!

But I will really miss him not being in the AO for the rest of the tournament. :crying2:

I just have read that Buenos Aires tournament might not be held due to security risks. The police authorities have closed some installations including the main court due a lots of security issues. if they aren't solved soon enough the tournament might be canceled. So Carles wouldn't be able to defend his points earned last year by reaching the final of the tournament. and he can't commit to any other tournament because one week later he has to play at Acapulco where he defends the title.

Here is the story although in spanish:
http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/story?id=298494

IMHO the tournament will be held, the authorities will let the tournament run. you know distributing the right ammount of money in the right hands everything will be forget, at least this year. I dunno if that would be right or not. Seems there are no way to fix 14 major security issues in so few days.

an article about it -->

Atentamente,
Martín Jaite
Director ATP Buenos Aires 2005

>> Carlos and Rafa did a practice session in front of 500 people on Saturday...they joked around, signed autographs etc...

Esa final me agradaría mucho.

I'd love to watch that final, But I feel it won't happen.

Ahh... good win, but I'm not THAT excited over it :p

Relieving to see him break the losing streak though. If he had lost ot Luczak, I would've been very very very annoyed
