I realized we didn't have that thread yet and it's about time :D

Alex is on the qualies list for the Australien Open. He needs 4-9 players to withdraw (the number is because of official and unofficial withdrawls) to get a main draw spot.

Then he's also in the alternat list for Buenos Aires 2 weeks later.

Fingers crossed that he gets in the main draw at thos 2 tournaments!

VAMOS ALEX!!! :worship:

I have just read the bad notice at Alex´ website.Alex will not play AO because of illness and will retourne at the South-American Tournaments.Maybe it is something with his neck.He had this problem nearly the whole year 2004.I hope he can come back and has not to retire because of injurys like Rios!

Paso a paso”.

I've been "static/ standing still" for 5 months and I am anxious to return to a high level. I started playing tournaments only in February and today it went well. My only goal is to find my form and come back strong."

This is my rough translation -- someone may correct me if they like!

Grazie!

Forza, Alex!!! ;)

From the Federazione Italiana Tennis

LUN 28/03/2005
NAPOLI CHALLENGER
Passano Aldi e Bracciali

It´s so sad,that he lost again.On a spanish web-site I have read,that he had physical
problems during tha match, but they didn´t write what problems.
For me it make no sense ,that Alex didn´t play the last 4 weeks. He also didn´t play any tennis from Nov. to Jan.! The only exlanation for me ,is that something is not o.k. with his
health.
The Tournament of Valencia says, that Alex will participate.WE have to wait, until the WC are official.

Yeah Interclubs is a competition between Swiss Clubs ;) For example TC Stade-Lausanne will play, on Wednesday I think, against TC Old Boys Basel ( ;) ) in the Swiss First Division... I don't know how come he got into it  All they said is that he will play on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (if I am not wrong) and that he is replacing Wawrinka who's gone in the US...

Okay guys

I went today to the Tennis Club to see Alex play. He started about half an hour after I arrived. When he entered the court he was cheered up by the people there :D Nice to see him smiling and wawving at them :)

He played good, it was sunny and hot but I think he did lose against Marco Pedrini from the Seebach Kreuzlingen Tennis Club. I left when he was down 3-6 4-5 and the other guy to serve... So I think he lost the second set 6-4 but not sure, maybe did he fight to come back... Atm no result available so let's think so...

I took pics from him so here they are :D Enjoy :D

Well I did spend all my day at the Tennis Club today :)

Today was the match between TC Stade-Lausanne and TC Old Boy Basel. Alex's matches are the following: Corretja vs. Moyano + Corretja/Wawrinka vs. Moyano/Thron

Alex Corretja vs. Diego Moyano 7-6 6-0

Alex really played much better than on Thursday!! He touched the ball very well :worship: And has had much more ideas how to variate his game than 2 days ago aswell. As he won the first set after an easy TB (7-4 I think), the second set was like  oh my god! An anecdote that illustrates he is well at the moment:

- during the TB (or at the beginning of the second set), he missed an easy smash (he smashed in the air, I don't know how come he didn't hit the ball) and he was like "  " and then every watcher was a bit laughing coz that was funny to see such a player missing such an easy shot and he raised his hands like "hehe I am the best thanks :p " and everyone clapped their hands and laughed. That was so cool from him

So finally his first victory in a single match during these Interclubs

Alex Corretja/Jonathan Wawrinka vs. Diego Moyano/Joschi Thron 7-5 6-2

Never seen a doubles live, so I was happy to see this match. For those who wonder who this "he-has-the-same-name-but-he-is-not-Stanislas-Wawrinka", Jonathan Wawrinka is Stan's brother ;) And man Alex was sooooooooooooooooooooo sweet with Jo!! He was like a brother with him, always encouraging him by some "Vamos" or "Allez" (Come on, in French) and, when Jo wasn't happy with a point he missed, Alex was always saying "No no don't worry, that's fine, you couldn't do a lot better" and so on. I was just behind Alex/Jo's bench that's why I could hear all of this :p

Here are some pics, enjoy! I will go back there on Tuesday but the next day of play is tomorrow in Luzern!

Nathy
08-06-2005, 10:11 PM

Enjoy

In today's newspaper there's a whole page on Alex, with an interview. He explains why he is playing Lausanne's Interclubs. Let me translate it from French to English for all of you.

Alex Corretja, Catalanian cream

INTERCLUBS LNA - Twice runner-up at the FO (1998 & 2001), Alex Corretja did go really down in the ATP ranking, being today on the 227th place. his passion for tennis prevents him from retiring. So he tries to come back, with his family's support.

His smile, his kindness and his fair-play are more well-known in the world than his forehand. Alex Corretja, he is the gentleman from the little yellow ball, a sweet player. From his native Catalunya, he keeps the heat, the generousness, the claycourt love but also the will to fight and come back.
Last years haven't been as he expected. Injuries, falling down in the rankings, this Alex Corretja isn't the one of the end of the 90's. Clever and realistic, he knows it better than anyone. But he also knows that, until he definitively retires, he stays a particular tennisman.
At the moment, he isn't in the draws of the majors tournaments of the Tour, nor of the minors ones. These days, Alex Corretja is helping the Tenni Club Stade-Lausanne, during the Men First Division Interclubs. It is at least, what everybody is believing. Because, when talking with the right-handed Catalan, we become aware that it is the Lausannes' Club that's giving a hand to him...

- Alex, how do you feel?
- Physically I feel good even if I feel a lack of competition. A few months ago I wasn't even training myself. I didn't have anything left from a tennisman. Today I am on the second step of my come-back's attempt, as I like to call it. The first one was coming back to the training, the second is coming back to competition. Mentally I am feeling good too, even if I had rather wanted that my 2 first Interclubs matches ended with a victory. But I was aware of what I could expect; what's happening is totally normal. The main thing is that I am in a constent progression.

- When it has been announced that Alex Corretja was coming to reinforce the TC Stade-Lausanne, we first thought that it was a joke. How come you did land on the Lake Geneva's side?
- Grégory Chambaz, who plays in the Lausanne's Club, was training with me in Barcelona. It's him who told me about these Interclubs. I did say a word to my trainer, who thought it would be perfect as a first contact with competition. Grégory didn't stop of encouraging me on the conditions, the place and... here I am! I didn't know what to expect but when I arrived here I said a relieving "phew", everything is perfect! The hotel on the lake's side is wonderful for my little family, the familial ambiance in the club is incredible and the competition offers me the matches that I need.

- Some have been surprised to see you losing...
- That's normal but I wasn't surprised at all. Simply disappointed not having brought 2 more points to the club that welcomed me so well. You know, if I had won my first match 6-2 6-2, then I would have been surprised. I play at 100%. I have played in a complete honesty. My actual level, it is this one that I am playing now. I am still very far from the player that I have been. I have to be patient. The way that I have chosen is long and hard. My matches are still unconstant; but the good players, they are constant, what I am not at the moment (laughs)!

- Don't these kinds of Interclubs exist in Spain?
- Yes but well, not really. In Spain, the Interclubs are on 3 days in November, that's all! I find your way of doing really excellent. The Interclubs allow the young players to know the real matches conditions with a real pressure. They learn to win for themselves, but also for their club. And I have also been impressed by the good level of play.

- During these last hard years, did you think about the after-tennis?- Never! I confess that I have some problems imaginating me doing something else than tennis. It's true that with the birth of my 2 daughters (Aroa, 2 years old and Carla, 2 months old) I have been a daddy at 100% for a few weeks. But since I didn't retire, I stay a tennisplayer. A tennisplayer lookinf for the level of play he had before, sure, but a tennisplayer even thoug.

- A level of play that you hope to have again?
- No, I am realistic! From the age of 10, I had only one dream: to become a champion. From that moment on, my whole life has been organised around this goal. My way was traced, it was up to me to do the efforts needed to follow it. It's only know that I have some problems that I am aware I have been lucky: before, all seemed easy to me! I think I reached my best in 1998 and 1999. I had the chance to come in front of the scene and to make my dream come true. Today I am just curious what's the best level of the actual Alex Corretja.

- And that's why you decided to come back step by step...
- Exactly. You know, I still have the chance and the honour that some tournies directors - as the one in Gstaad, which is still my fave tournament - keep offering me WCs considering my actual level of play. Obviously I would dream of playing on Gstaad's claycourt, breathing the fresh air of the mountains, seeing again these people who treated me like a son and sleeping in a wonderful hotel. But I had to call back the Hermenjats to refuse their offer: it wouldn't be correct to take part into the tournament when I am only the shadow of the one I used to be. Being invited to be defeated in the first round without having won a single game, no, thanks!

- And when you don't play, when you're thinking, do you watch tennis on television?
- Sometimes yes, but I'm not focused in it. It's gooing to astonish you but I think there are too many tennis matches on tv. Years ago, there were only 10 or 15 players able to win a final. There were always Edberg, Lendl, Wilander... Today, the watcher is losing himself. There are at least 100 players able to win an ATP tournament, even if there are less that are able to win a Grand Slam. But, in my opinion, the point where the tv goes right to the wall, is that it shows only the matches. And what's interesting there isn't this point but the backstages: players in the plane, in the locker room, eating, playing billard or simply joking between each other. That's what is really nice...

- What is planned in your short future?
- A good massage and a family meal! (Lauhgs) Seiriously, I am staying in Switzerland 'til Wednesday I think and then, I will go back home to analyse all this. To come back, you must give you the time for it.

You're welcome :hatoff: Yeah and I didn't knew this coz, when I arrived there was a table free and we wanted to sit there but we saw a sheet of paper that meant it was reserved for the Corretja's... So we went on the other side of the restaurant and sat there and then at about 2 p.m. some Spaniards came and we heard the lady speaking of Alex. It was his wife and about an hour later he came and ate there.

Was really nice, no one bothering him he was there having fun with his family, really nice to see :D

Hi to all Alex's Fans. Okay seems that his injury isn't that serious but as the club is relegated in the 2nd Division, he decided not to play today. But he was there to support the guy who replaced him: he coached him during the match (but he lost agains George Bastl 6-1 6-2), giving him advice and playing the ballboy

After the match I went to Alex to give him an envelope with our 3 messages (the ones from Deflori, HT and myself) and I said: "Hey Alex, in this you'll find messages from your fans in Europe. Messages of support to let you know they're still behind you. I gathered them from the net." and he was surprised and said "Oh, thank you very much, really."

And then I came back to my mom, waiting for the autograph session that was "planned" for Alex's fans (he couldn't play so he went there and was available for the public). But as I saw nothing was really "planned" and that people went to him to take pics of him and with him, I decided to return to him to take pics.

I asked a lady "Hey can you take a pic of Alex and me?" she said "Yes, yes, sure". And then I asked Alex, who smiled coz I was coming back to him and I asked him for the pic ha accepted with a smile and then I thanked him and he said "No, no, thank YOU, it was a pleasure" :worship:

  Mister Alex

So today I have 3 pics, the first one is Alex and me ;) :worship:

Enjoy :)

Hi all!
Unfortunately I have some bad news. Alex had surgery on one of his eye recently. Everything went ok but it seems that he has that problem again now with the other eye...
Here's an article I found:

Babelfish translation
ALEX CORRETJA SUFFERS ONE SERIOUS OCULAR INJURY

For the man run bad weather who, next to Joan Balcells, gained that double that gave first Davis to Spain. Alex Corretja, that recently had been operated of a membrane loosening in an eye, finishes undergoing the same mishap. The Catalan, champion of the Masters in 1998 (he defeated in the end to Carlos Moyá, in five historical sets) faces, then, before a serious problem facing his professional race. The relapse, while it trained, could take to the operating room and again put in prohibition its continuity. In the next days its future will be known. -

Hi all!
I have bad news:
Alex Corretja podría retirarse del tenis
Miércoles 28 de Septiembre de 2005
11:21

Hi!
On the Web-site of Tennis a fondo you can post messages for Alex for the next
issue! We should give him as many as messages as possible!
In the November issue of Tennis a fondo is a very cute photo from Alex and his
little daughter Carla and also a big 2-side article about his Masters-Win
in 1998! I will try to scan and post it here!

Some news I found:

Alex will be commentating on spanish tv fo the spanish masters this weekend. His eye still hasn't recovered, he only has 50% on that eye. But he's trying and still has the goal of returning to tennis.

Thanks, Enano, I just looked at the article from El Mundo Deportivo before seeing your post. I hope Alex can recover fully his vision in his left eye. Poor Alex!!

Now if only I could get a DVD or sth of that Spanish Masters from some Spanish Alex fan! ;)

JOAN SOLSONA. Valladolid

http://www.marca.com/fotos_xpresa/tenis05/corretja.jpg
