EDIT:: I figured this thread could be used to post links to related websites and similar things. I just uploaded some new photo albums online and wanted to share them with you guys :wavey:

ok, ok... the title is a work in progress! But some of us will be at the Aussie tournaments soon, & I'm gonna try to come on the net to post my daily activities. I'll probably need someone to go to the Jonas group, and paste what I've written in here. It's highly unlikely that I'll answer any questions here, until I'm back in Sydney (Jan 6/7) and after the Aus Open. I'll have internet access between the 6th & 11th of January.

I'll prob answer questions in the Jonas group, because it's tough to get internet access in the melbourne hostel. Anyway, that's about it! I'll post here soon :yeah: and hopefully, those of you that go to other tournaments throughout the year, can write your own stories :) By then, we'll change the title of the thread I think?

Thanks Peggy!
The new address is:

I really hope he will play there too  I'm sick of him withdrawing from so many tournaments... but... I'd rather he get over this injury before it does some serious damage.

heya BGirl :wavey:

its going to take a lot by soderling and JJ in 2005 to take me away from the hewitt forum ;)

i'm still in chennai but it goes without saying i'm feeling like crap at the moment given what has happened here so am planning to leave on New Year's day - unfortunately the connecting flight from singapore is full so might need to stay there for a day :(

in any case i'll definitely be back home for the sydney tournament next week!

I wrote this in the yahoo group, but dont have time to answer questions here, so if you've got something to ask, please do it in the yahoo gorup! Thanks ;)

Today:
Amer Delic df Alex Bogomolov. And rightly so. Alex had a habit of
throwing his racquet around, and although he's polite and nice off
court, he was acting like an ass today. I doubt he gained many fans!
(Amer kinda looks like a good looking federer... peta, dont judge
him yet :P Wait til you see him! ;) ;))

Saw Lars Graff ;) Got a pic, LOL!

Enqvist made Sluiter look like a beginner! Now, I like Raemon, but
Thomas is Swedish, so he's my priority! He was playing beautifully,
at one stage he had 40-00 and went for a dropshot. It was crap,
barely hit the net onhis side... so he walked back to the crowd,
gesturing a gun(with his fingers) to his head. The crowd found it
highly amusing, and he went on to win that game. You couldnt help
but feel bad for Raemon. He couldnt get his serves in, a lot of
balls were going wide. He was all over the place, but he was a
gentleman about it.

Baccanello vs Saulnier. Saulnier is cool! He got a foot fault, and
when the ball came back, he kicked it, and it hit a ballgirl. Next
ppoint was match point, so he walked to the net, shook baccanello's
hand, and then waited to see if the girl was ok, before shaking the
ump's hand. He shook the girls hand too :) Sweet! (So Sorry about
all the errors! I'm in a rush)

Jurgen vs Berdych64 46 63
Jurgen played beautiful tennis in the first set! In the second, he
served first, lost it and never quite recovered. Ah well, in typical
Jurgen style he made it in 3 ;) He made a few double faults, as did
Tomas. Both their first serves were pretty sh!t! otherwise serving
was good. few errors... I sat a couple of seats across from his
coach, but as kat and i have been saying lately "I was here first".

Simon Aspelin - Left after he won the first set ;) Some foot faults,
Simon hit it at Haggard a couple of times. There were a LOT of
Aussie spectators (about 30-40, and later built up to around 50..)
and Graydon Oliver and Jim Thomas were keen to have a look. at 5-6
in the third, Simon was throwing/bouncing his racquet! Very pissed,
I never saw him so angry! lol (and even then, he was subdued. He's
swedish after all). They came back and won the set in a TIEBREAK!!

Met Jim Thomas. Guys, he's really nice. If you see him at a
tournament, you should go and say gday. He's so welcoming! And he
has that 'friendly' look about him :D

Tuesday - Events in Adelaide

OMFG!
Kat and I were just in the restaurant down the road, and who should
walk in but Jurgen and his coach!!! Luckily I'd already eaten some
bruschetta so I was kind of full. But just after we got our meals,
they walked in ;-/ I freaked out a bit and lost my appetite! Ah
well, we let them eat in peace. Thankfully it was kat who was facing
them! I just stared out onto the street trying to eat. (Pathetic, I
know!)

Todays events prior to dinner:
Stepanek df Kohlschrieber. Berdych was supporting Radek, and Florian
Mayer was rooting for Phillip. Jarkko also made an appearance, and
we couldnt stop laughing at his expression (squinting).

Jarkko LOST TO Calleri. This wasn't the Jarkko I saw last year and
the year before. He played horrendous tennis. He had no serve, no
concentration (or so it seemed).

DeChaunac df Lisnard

Oli/Xavier df Aussies!!!!
Brillliant ;)

*Thomas Enqvist in fanfest
*Simon Aspelin - sleeveless shirt - not recommended!

Sydney Intl, Women's quallies day 1 (Friday, 7th):

Saw some women's singles match, got into the 2nd set wher it started to get really boring so I went for a stroll to the practice courts. I was walking down the steps when lo and behold, about 10 people were crowding around none other than Thomas Johansson! I quickly ran down trying hard not to trip and went to him. I was nearly speechless... I said 'Oh Hi Thomas, I'm a really big fan of yours, I've got a present for you' and I gave him these 2 blue and yellow stressballs that I'd wrapped up for him, with a note saying that they're for him to release his stress when he's losing in a match. and he said 'Oh Thank you'. My hand was scrambling inside my bag trying to find the stupid pen to get his autograph, couldn't find it so I said 'Could you wait a sec, I need to find my pen for your autograph' and he waited, and I still couldn't find it so I had to borrow one from this middle aged guy who was standing there. I gave the book to him, I said 'it's a new book' cos I didn't know whatelse to say... and he said 'Oh it's a new one!' and he signed it =) and I got his photo after that as well...Kristen, now I fully understand what you referred to by "embarrassing conversations"! He then went off to the locker rooms.

After that I was like a shuttle bus going from the quallies matches, waited till they got boring, strolled back down to the practice courts, looked for anyone famous, didn't find any, back to the quallies matches...and so on...

Then I saw Jaslyn Hewitt practice, had to ask the guy next to me if it really was Jaslyn, cos I thought I saw someone who looked like her before with Nike clothes and Yonnex racquets but her hair was straight and out so I wasn't sure. Then Jaslyn had a break from practice, I was nearly gonna ask for the autograph then but I thought I didn't want to disturb her conversation with her practice partner, I thought they were gonna finish then so I could ask for the autograph later but no, they had to go back to practice another 15 mins. Next time they had a break, I didn't waste any time and got her autograph/photo and said "good luck for your next match later", and she said thanks. (Her name was on the program as "TBA, not before 2pm" so I didn't know if she ended up playing today cos I went home sunburnt at about 3.30pm and none of the matches had finished on all the match courts)

But anyway, conclusion is that as any fan who's had the priviledge of meeting their favourite player for the 1st time probably knows, I should have rehearsed what I was gonna say to Thomas! He'd better not be in a hurry next time I see him...Francine, I still haven't asked him your question of whether or not he had any siblings!

Fingers Crossed he'll practice again tomorrow, with fewer other spectators around so he'd have plenty of time for the question!

Yeah sure, I only got a photo of him cos I was by myself so if Kristen can take a pic of me and him together I'd be most grateful...

Siobhan's pronounced Syevaun isn't it? correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually my list of questions to ask him includes which tournaments he's planning to play for the rest of the year, that's why I needed plenty of time to ask him ;) but I'll ask about queens club for you!

I forgot to add how extremely polite and sweet and adorable and so fine looking he was... I could've kicked myself for watching the boring womens quallies, when he was practising just nearby the whole time!...*I need the "drooling" smilie but can't find it*

I'll give the folder to him tomorrow if I see him, I'll still have to put Kristen letter in then the folder can be in the pic too :)

Kristen, I dunno if you'll read this tonight but the quallies start at 9am tomorrow (got the order of play already ;)) but I'll sms you anyway. I should be there by 9am. Cya!

SYDNEY (Copy/paste from www.groups.yahoo.com/group/swedishtennis )

First of all, I had major woes with the public transport system. I caught a taxi to a closer train station, but then the train wasnt for half an hour (the time jarkko played Michael!) so I got a taxi (again!) back, halfway to my house, and down the motorway to get to this damn match. I arrived at Homebush at 9am!

Got to Jarkko's court in time to see the boys warming up. In Jarkko's first game he had two foot faults! He ended up losing the first set 4-6 to the Swede, Michael had some brilliant dropshots, but in the first game of the second set he asked the umpire to call the trainer. At 3-0 (Jarkko), the trainer worked on his (left)hamstring (The Metsal smelled great! Really cleared the nose), and Michael got up, shook his head, shook Jarkko's and the umpires hands, and called it a day. Jarkko got lucky.

Next up: Alexander Waske vs Nathan Healey.
Alexander is German, and a cutie, but now he has no hair, and I only really have one photo to compare him to! LOL Nathan was unimpressed throughout a lot of the match. For an Australian guy, he certainly looked good in the sleeveless shirt. Shame about the on court personality though! Peta, you would have appreciated the arms on this guy :Oo

TRAINING:
Filippo Volandri with Michael Llodra. Filippo NEEDS a haircut.
Greg Rusedski with Max Mirnyi. Greg. Ditto.
David Ferrer - His grunt is so annoying!
Thomas johansson / Robin Söderling vs coaches in a game of futsalsoccer on the tennis court. lol, Judging from this, and an encounter later in the day, Robin seems to be in an awesome frame of mind right now. He seemed really carefree and happy :)

After training, Margaret and I waited for ToJo to come outside, and asked him a few questions and got photos with him. He was so nice, we kept holding him back and he continued to smile and be a good sort, and help us out with our questions / requests! Brownie points for ToJo!

Jarkko vs Olivier Mutis.
Jarkko lost the first set 4-6. More foot faults(stop it jarkko!)! He then won the second set 6-0. He was AMAZING. His confidence returned. But then again, Mutis retired a few moments later, so who knows if Jarkko was playing great, or if Mutis couldn't get to the balls??

Watched some of JMG's second qualifying match against Duh!er (derer) and said gday to him afterwards. I wonder if he found it weird that I didn't ask for his signature? Maybe tomorrow, I dunno. Depends if he wins. He's done good things in the past for wildlife conservation, so he's a good sort. Him and Graydon (the 'animal lover'. Good cookie ^_^).

After we left, we saw Robin and his coach walking up the road... chased after them to get a photo (when I say 'chase' I only mean ten metres!). Robin was sweet. He is sweet, it's a misconception that he's a rude guy IMO. I think you've just got to approach players at the right time.

Is this a better length, star? ;)

Oh I didn't write here yesterday, but I've asked some other fan questions too :) First I asked if he liked the blue/yellow stress balls I gave him on FRiday and he said "Yeah it's great!" He was really nice! so basically he has a younger sister, she's 24 years old. Have to ask him what's her name tomorrow! and Siobhan, he said "Maybe" to queens club. I also asked him where can I send a birthday card to in March, and he said to the ATP. So I was thinking maybe I could get him a really nice b'day card and whoever wants their name put down in it I'll write the names down and send it to the ATP. Then In June/Wimbledon Siobhan can ask him if he received it. What do you think?

And today I gave him the folder yay!!! he said he liked the wrapping/package, that's what he referred to it(the yellow ribbon outside the blue folder that looks like the swedish flag) I said these were letters from some of your fans that they've asked me to pass onto you and he said thanks.

Part 2 of ToJo encounter:

After I gave him the folder there was this guy from the tennis channel (American I think) who interviewed him, this is just a summary of what he said that I took down, not his exact words. When they are his exact words I've put them in "..."

#He said that the flight from Doha was long so he watched lots of movies in the plane

#During the Christmas break he practused tennis and spent Christmas with his family in his hometown (Linkoping)

#when not practising, he likes to read lots of books, some of which he got for his xmas presents. At the moment he's reading a book by this author that sounded like Hening Michael (?) dunno how to spell it, anyone knows? maybe it's a swedish author. He writes crime fictions.

#he likes to play in Sydney, not Auckland cos it's closer to Melbourne

#he likes sydney because of the hotels, restaurants, the opera house, and he went to The Rocks (some historic tourism area in the city) yesterday

#He likes aussies cos we're "down to earth, like swedish people" :) (that's exactly what he said!)

#why the swedish fans are always so loud at the aus open: he said because melbourne is usually their final destination after backpacking round the world so that's why he and the other swedes have to play well

#the interviewer asked what's the difference between the opera house and "cafe opera", and he said "the accent", apparently cafe opera is a really famous bar in Sweden

So if anyone subscribes to the tennis channel, they would've seen this interview, during this he was still holding up the folder I gave him. I also took a pic of this which I'll put here as soon as i get access to a scanner :)

Once again, city rail has let me down. If ANYONE comes to visit Sydney, please, son't rely on our trains too much, because they are very rarely on time.
First up, we saw Thomas Johansson and Mardy Fish practicing together. Shortly afterwards, I made my way to centre court to watch Jarkko take on Clement. It wasn't the worst I've seen Jarkko play. Mind you, I left at 0-5 in the first set. (FYI: Worst I've seen - against Calleri the other day... but that was the first time I saw him in this slump, so it makes sense).
:o
Ditched Jarkko at 1.25pm after receiving sms half an hour before from margaret, saying that Jurgen was training on the court next to Thomas Johansson. See, all day I'd been carrying around this little gift bag with a book (inspirational quotes/pics) and 2 letters from fans, to give to Jurgen. I was sick of carrying it around, so thought I'd let him deal with it ;) lol

I gave 2 letters to Jurgen, printed them off, put them in a white, silver lined envelope, inside a small silver gift bag, which contained the little book
"Go For It!" filled with inspirational quotes... he was so happy! I had a small chat with him, but as usual, I forgot to ask about his shoulder... LOL. Margaret got a pic with him, and we were telling him that we would be there to support him. I said that it was a letter 'from barbara...in the USA, and myself... and a little book of quotes, for inspiration when DC comes around."
He was looking in the bag, smiling... haha! Such a sweetie :)

Got some more pics today. He was training with Wayne Arthurs, another lefty. Sh!te! Did he know he was gonna play Jarkko!? Is he psychic! LOL he had on a nice light blue (aqua) bandanna. It was hilarious! He pulled it out of his bag, and his coach stepped on it. I just thought it was a piece of rubber so he could stretch or something... but no, he got it out to fold and wrap around his head! He did it twice! What's the deal with him and his perfect hair (Its great though, and I mentioned that in my letter to him; that I noticed him because of his hair! LOL)
Next up: Luke Bourgeois vs Alexander Waske
Didn't watch as much of this as I should have. For the entire first set I was distracted by a handsome Austrian sitting on the balcony with his coach :P But Alexander came close... and I had my german flag out :) [German...Alexander... :( I miss Alexander Popp!]
TRAINING: Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco.
Peggy, I know you like Verdasco at least, so you might be pleased to know that I took twenty pics on my camera. I couldn't help it! I think most of them are of Lopez, but some are of Fernando, so it should work out ok. Still no sightings of Sandon Stolle!

During training, the guys were practicing their serves. Aiming over the fence, and at bottles placed on certain parts of the court. By this time, a crowd of about 50 or so had built up, and Feliciano kept hitting the targets! The crowd would cheer "waaheeeyyy!!!!!" lol, and he'd run around smiling, with his arms in the air! LOL encouraging everyone to cheer him on. Poor Fernando, he got one I think... but only after Feliciano jokingly rolled the drink's fridge onto the court (its big and yellow, maybe a metre high and at least 60cm (2ft)wide!)!
It really was a fun way to finish off the day. I'd never paid enough attention to the Spaniards, and these guys seemed to be having a ball :)

Tomorrows relevant matches:
Filippo vs Wayne Arthurs (or Max vs Ferrer!?)
Thomas johansson vs Florian Mayer
Jarkko Nieminen vs Jurgen Melzer (SO UNFAIR!)
Robin Soderling vs Mardy Fish

I'll be giving Joachim the folder we made, with letters and other stuff from his fans :)

So if anyone subscribes to the tennis channel, they would've seen this interview, during this he was still holding up the folder I gave him. I also took a pic of this which I'll put here as soon as i get access to a scanner :)
so if i saw this on Tennis Channel, he'd be holding the folder you gave him (if they showed more than his face)? if so, that's AWESOME!

yep that's right! He was holding the folder in front of his thighs :)

I watched ToJo v Mayer today, ToJo won easily, even through a second set tiebreaker! When he was down 0-15, leading 3-2 in the second set, his second serve was called out. Then he asked the umpire "Wide or long?" but it sounded weird and the umpire must've thought he said "why was it long?", and tojo got upset cos the umpire didn't understand his accent :)

Score was 6-2, 7-6 (7-5)

Oh... the second set was pretty tight I though.... Thomas served really really well though, especially in the first set.

He framed quite a few forehands which was odd....

copy/paste from yahoo group:
This is gonna be brief. I'm half asleep while I write this, and its not even 11pm! Oh, and my pen ran out today, so I didnt take notes!

Firstly I went to the practice courts (since there were no matches on). I don't think I saw anyone interesting... No Swedes anyway.

Watched some of Max Mirnyi vs David Ferrer. But, it got kind of boring! So I left just after the first set. Got some Max photos :D Had a wander around and noticed Jurgen and Jarkko were practicing at different ends of the complex. Got plenty of photos of Jarkko. Jurgen was too far away for me to get a good picture.

Went to Johansson vs Mayer. He played wonderfully, for the time I was there! So many aces in the first set (last game). I left him after the set, and watched that horriffic match between Jarkko and Jurgen.

Basically, what happened was that Jurgen made some errors on important points, and Jarkko made a lot less. I was impressed by Jarkko's game. The thing with Jurgen was, he took risks, and they would have been awesome if they'd paid off. These guys played a good match IMO. Jarkko held the lead right from the start (3-0) and had
more BP opportunities but did not convert. In the second set, Jarkko served, and Jurgen must have gotten his footing wrong, because the next thing i knew, he was on the ground. Jarkko asked how he was, and he was ok On the final point, Jurgen served it into the net on the first serve...and then I think he hit it into the net.. not sure. But
thank goodness he didn't end it on a double fault!

Before they got on court, I was sitting opposite the umpire - as neutral as I could get, aside from my red and white shirt. But then Jurgen and Jarkko came on court... and Karl-Heinz(JM coach) was a few metres away. The pressure of it all! My claps for Jurgen grew louder as Jarkko took control of the match. I still clapped for Jarkko, but
he didn't need it as much (for once!). I'm sad for Jurgen that he lost to JN, but, I'm so glad for Jarkko that he was able to beat a really good player :) (He needed the win!)

The last match was between robin and Mardy Fish. I couldn't pay attention, because Jarkko was up on the balcony (players lounge) sitting with Thomas Johansson. He wasn't doing anything interesting (eating, drinking, sitting. I did those things today as well!), it was just cool to see the Scandinavians supporting each other I think :) After watching this match, I went home. More pics to upload now :-/

I had to volunteer today, so i turned up in my uniform, got in early (for free), and then quickly headed to the toilets to get changed into my other top (I was actually wearing it underneath the uniform) and checked out the practice courts. I saw ToJo doing the tennis clinic thing for little kids, awww he was so adorable! He pretended he couldn't hit back easy shots from kids like 5 years of age, and acted as though he was struggling to return the shots. In fact he was doing this with Wayne Arthurs, his 2nd round opponent for tomorrow! Funny seeing him go around picking up the balls when usually his coach does it.

Then had to change back into the uniform and report to the staff area, lucky I got the job minding the entrance to court 2 (the one Kristen was living on today, what with pimpim and jurgen playing straight after :)

So every once in a while I took "extended toilet breaks" and checked out the practice courts, but there weren't anyoneelse interesting, just ToJo and Robin playing "soccer" again.

Watched pimpim's match (he yelled out a couple of C'mons and managed to win 6-4 6-3) and then Jurgen's, when we saw Pimpim heading inside the players building. I quickly got myself excused for another toilet break and ran to the other side of the building where he would have to come out of, waited there with Kristen for ages and he didn't even come out :( so have to wait for him tomorrow again. I wonder what he was doing inside that took so long!

PS the reason I kept having to get changed was that we're not allowed to approach players for autographs and take pics of them in the uniform ;)

Got to the tennis centre late today...(cityrail's fault!) and by the time I got there pimpim already finished practicing :( but luckily Kristen already gave his mother the folder of letters, cos as you'd all found out, he retired during his match and is heading straight to Melbourne.

Then we watched Jarkko v Pavel, which Jarkko lost 6-4 7-6. (I'm kinda glad it didn't go into a third set, it was definitely more than the 33 degrees the weatherman had predicted and I was just sitting down watching, imagine them running around the court for more than 2 hours!) Yep, Jarkko's found a new fan :) he likes the same soccer team as mine (Manchester United) I just discovered today.

Then we watched pimpim's match against Mirnyi, I got quite distracted, what with the sight of Jarkko eating and ToJo standing there lookin' pretty on the players' balcony =) But anyway, during the match there was this cameraman with a picture of the swedish flag on his camera and he was zooming quite close up to us, I couldn't figure out if it was the Swedish man with the viking hat behind us or my 'Lycka Till! PimPim' Sign!

The rest of the story was that during the 4-1 changeover PimPim approached Mirnyi and the next thing we knew was that the umpire calling it game set match, PimPim retired :(

Tried to find out the reason why from the reception, but I forgot that that area was closed out now during the tournament. Went home after that.

Get well soon for Melbourne PimPim! I still need a photo of you and your autograph ;)

Part 2 of ToJo encounter: #when not practising, he likes to read lots of books, some of which he got for his xmas presents. At the moment he's reading a book by this author that sounded like Hening Michael (?) dunno how to spell it, anyone knows? maybe it's a swedish author. He writes crime fictions.

I found out that this author's name is Henning Mankell, a swedish crime fiction author. He's famous for writing the eight "Kurt Wallander" mysteries that's being sold worldwide (but to be honest I've never heard of this LOL) so I'm gonna buy/borrow the book from the bookshop/library soon and see if Thomas has a good taste in books ;)

Just got back from Melbourne, really 3 days aren't enough...if it weren't for uni enrolment I'd have stayed longer!

1st day: I watched pimpim practicing on Margaret Court Arena at about 10am, there were already lots of swedes preparing themselves for the ToJo match that was 1st on that court at 11am. They were cheering for pimpim too when he practiced, and at the end of his practice session he hit a tennis ball that he used to them and they were so happy and pimpim gave them his cutest and hugest smile ;)

Then watched ToJo, as everyone probably knows he was a bit nervous and had to win in five sets. Wandered around until pimpim's match at the same court later on started, the hewitt family minus lleyton was watching him on the corner nearest to the players' entrance so I sat close to them cos I needed PimPim's autograph, but at the end of the match he only signed a couple and left :(

Day 2: watched Jonas play up to the 3rd set then got Kristen's sms that PimPim's training outside, I got out ASAP and yep you guessed it, I missed him again by about 1 minute. The security guard said that Roddick would be there later on, as if I'd be waiting for Roddick!! Then saw Melzer play Sluiter, but Sluiter got injured after 3-3 first set. There wasn't any other swedes playing after that so I left.

Day 3: Got there early and checked out the practice courts, ToJo was practicing on court 18, so I took some pics ;) then watched the warmup at vodafone arena just before the 1st match started (Mauresmo v Safina) and got bored so I went outside again and waited for the match before ToJo (Hrbaty v someone with a weird name that I can't recall) to finish, but it didn't finish until I was actually on my way back to Sydney :(

thing is I didn't have a scanner before and we just bought one a few days ago and we're still figuring out how it works. Out of the 3 rolls of film that I took, only one's been developed, the rest should be ready by Saturday and by then my sister (the computer whiz) should've figured out how to use the scanner...I promise I'll scan the photos early next week :) sorry it's taking me so long!

I like your "reviews" of the tournaments :yeah:!

loool... the Adelaide tournament should hire you as their promoter....!! actually a "plus" about the hostel is that it's just like the rest of Adelaide, it's very quiet. Did I tell you the last night I was there.... I had the whole room to myself?????

other pros about Adelaide... Tickets are cheap - close distance to CBD - normal priced food at the venue

cons about Adelaide - practice courts are "weird"... (how can I describe it?) don't expect to get many pics of players practicising

cons about Sydney - it takes almost 1.5 hours to get to the tennis centre from the CBD!!!!

will add more later :D

Yeah Adelaide has some funky practice courts.
During quallies you can sit next to one of them, but after that you have to be a member to access it. You can still sort of look, but you're looking through a fence. Basically, the Adelaide tournament allows you to sit beside 3 courts. The rest are in between them.

In this pic, the blue dots indicate how you';re supposed to walk to the furthest court. Nevermind that there may be people practicing, and your shoes get filled with sand  (Oh, and theres a fence between those blue dots, and the match courts ;))

Going to the Australian Tourney would be a dream !!!
I came back on monday morning from the qualies/practrices of the MS Monte-Carlo. Even, if Thomas Enqvist wasn't there (cause he plays a challenger this week), with my friend Aurélie we spent great moments. We saw all the Swedes, even if I have to say, for once, I wasn't very interested by them (sorry). So, we saw Thomas & Joachim Johansson, Robin Soderling (sunday only, he practrised with Joachim), Jonas Björkman. We also saw Thomas Enqvist's former coach who works for the Swedish Fed. We unfortunately haven't seen former swedish players.

We had a big feeling with JCF (we really don't like him). By feeling, I mean that we met him several times, so it was a bit frustrating cause we wanted to see Carlos Moya instead. Also, with Guga, but my friend's mother is a big fan so we took some pics for her.

I think we saw about 20 players the first day and none of our favourites. My friend's fav player is Haas (but he is the US), but our second player is Moya and we only saw him on sunday afternoon. The third player is Gonzalez but he was in Valencia.

The atmosphere was good but we had some rain on sunday morning. I think since today, the weather is a bit better, for the riviera coast, it's not great to have rain. The atmosphere in Monaco, was sad because of the Prince's death, all the flags are down.

So, I have a few anecdotes, I plan to write a report soon, so I hope you'll enjoy it cause it's really fun. At the moment, I don't have internet at home, so I can't post my report and my pictures (cause at work, it's not easy). I hope to do that very soon.

We left Nice at 6 am monday morning and I went to work directly, it was very difficult. I'd like to be on the tournaments each week. It changes your life and you forget everything.

See ya

Thanks in advance Birte for the pics, as Carlos lost, I think you'll see him. I have my first pics of Monte-Carlo, and the ones I took with my digital camera will arrive on friday.

I called my internet provider yesterday and I should have it again in two weeks. So, I cross the fingers :)

Francine : yes, hopefully, I saw Carlos, "only" one hour, but we enjoyed the moment LOL. Carlos practrised with Zabaletta, so it was great !!

I'll post pics of the Swedes here (The 2 Johanssons and Jonas).

So, now, I hope to hear the adventures of the other fans who were in Monte-Carlo and from Birte when she'll be back from Barcelona. Hope the weather will be better for you Birte :)

I just did a rushed job on the Melbourne component of this page:

Haven't done any itineraries or pricing yet, so the $1000 is just an uneducated guess ;) lots of typos too!

Your page sounds great, I think we all should make a page with the tournaments we plan to attend, and write some tips, cheap hotels etc.. And, then, post reports with pics.. Or maybe a common website with each person's tips for the tournaments.. We"ll see...

But you are very in advance for Melbourne LOL At the moment, it's for Europeans to enjoy tournaments. Hope it won't fly very fast. Roland-Garros is approaching and I can't wait. I already bought my tickets for the week-end before (with the last day of the qualies, and the Benny Berthet day with all the practrices), I also have my tickets for the first round, and for the first saturday of the tournament. I have tickets for thursday (I'll have to sell it) cause I have to work. Hope the weather will be ok in Paris, this week-end we had a warm weather (about 28°C) and today, it's about + 15°C :(

I like the idea to open a thread where everyone can give comments and information about live tourneys.

Like Val, I am also enjoying the time right now a lot. ;) Next week there´s the TMS Hamburg and the week after is Duesseldorf. I will go to both tournaments and I am so much looking forward to it :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Yes, we're enjoying a lot the European season, it's so short. Then, they'll go to Britain. Have you ever been to Wimbledon ? This tournament stresses me a lot, just for the queues, but if we are a lot of fans, it should be fun.

Birte : have a nice time in Hamburg & Dusseldorf. If you see Thomas at the qualies, don't forget me :), it's so complicated to see him at the moment.// Don't worry about the email, it's ok :)

Val! You make it all sound so far away!! Britain is still Europe!! (OK, when you live in Australia, everything is far away  )

I like your idea about a site with tourney info so people can contribute and share their experiences! If one day I make it to the European tourneys... that would be a site that I would really love to see ;)

Sorry Kat, when I talk about European season, I meant the clay season. But, Britain is very close to us (3 hours by train :) )

I hope this site will open someday. Could be interesting, you want to go to the Aussie Open, and see all the tips, especially to buy tickets in advance. Well, we'll have to think about it. I think I'll have more time to think about it in June. I'll let you know :) I'm ready to talk about Roland-Garros, TMS Paris-Bercy, TMS Monte-Carlo and US OPEN and Davis Cup.

Michael Ryderstedt is truly

I saw him practicing and when he finished i asked him to sign my book. but I wasn't totally sure it was Michael, so I did the "How do you pronounce your surname again?" trick (Kristen, remember ;) ) so I can make sure who it was and he said "Ryderstedt" (the Ry as in 'Rye'). Then i said "oh i've always thought it was Reederstedt" (of course I knew both were correct!). then he said "oh but you're also correct, in Sweden they say Reederstedt as well". then i wished him good luck and left.

Jurgen was practising on the next court and also finished at the same time, but i figured i'd better calm down before making a totally embarrassing scene and leave him for Kristen to deal with ;) the hair was...:tape:

Yes, I'll definitely be able to deal with Jurgen I think... I've had about a week to come to grips with his new style :) It'll be my avatar, after I get bored of Simon Aspelin (Can that actually happen!?) Thanks for the report!! :wavey:

no i only got photos of michael playing, so i'll teach you how to use my digital camera :) (last time GWH used it on me and nalby, it only caught our ears cos i gorgot to zoom out before giving it to him!)

the family's coming tomorrow, just for a short while in the morning though. so i don't have to fork out transport.

where do you get the oop btw? i asked this girl at the office and she must've got confused cos she gave me the one where it says on what days quallies/1st round etc are

will bring the videos and ticket money tomorrow :)

i got there at 8 am this morning! cos i caught a train with dad (saves me catching the bus!) it was empty and lucky i brought a book to read until about 10.30ish when people started training. play started at 11. but i imagine tomorrow more players would be training early at 9. i'm leaving home at 8.30, so should get there by 9.30 at the latest. how about you?

tojo was practicing with lleyton, which explained the crowd! well after 1 hour tojo finished and he signed practically everything people asked him to, and posed for numerous photos. it's pretty funny that more people asked for todd's autograph than tojo's! i asked tojo his fave colour (blue), if he's going to nottingham or queen's (queen's), and how his injury's going (he said 'we'll see, we'll see...'). i also asked him to sign my first henning mankell book :D

there aren't any other swedes in sydney, i only saw michael ryderstedt near the player's building once today and couldn't take a pic cos my battery ran out! more pics to come tomorrow :)

@Birte: glad you enjoyed the report :)
@Francine:  at least everytime i read the book i'll remember that it was because of tojo's good taste that i got hooked ;)

today's report:
*not really swede-related, but jurgen won in straight sets 6-2 7-6(1) so kristen and i were happy :) though he faces hewitt next.

then watched tojo practicing with koubek. it was kids day today and there were lots of kids swarming the place... you know those ones, who don't know who the players are besides hewitt, but want an autograph anyway. well there were two kids watching tojo and they were so annoying: first they kept asking me the time, and then they had to borrow my pen, and they kept interrupting tojo's practice, as in going onto the court and kept asking him to sign! and they said "i hope he finishes soon cos i have to go in 10 minutes" as though tojo had to arrange his practice time around to accomodate them! but in the end tojo finished practicing, and being the nice guy that he is, signed their mags :)

tojo's match should be tomorrow... i'm getting ready my attire ie swedish jersey, shirt, hat and hairband :yeah: would've brought my swedish scarf, but it's too hot!

Kristen
01-09-2006, 08:29 AM
we should have tol them we saw Lleyton and *random aussie player I also dislike* were practicing on court 8 :tape: That would have taken them almost ten minutes. Must remember it for future reference!!

PS, Don't worry about bringing the AO programme (just makes your bag heavier!), unless you want signatures... I'll buy it in melb, even if it was the crappiest programme ever :)

margaret_gn
01-09-2006, 09:56 AM

omfg I hate Tennis Australia (their website) almost as much as I hate hearing about precious Lleyton in the news lately/ever.

My point: There are some Futures events coming up in the next couple of weeks, one of which is apparently at Olympic Park, and I'm intending to go to qualifying, and a day of the main draw, depending on the schedule. HOWEVER, the stupid effing website is taking an eternity to (not) load (at all) so tomorrow I will have to call and find out some information if they are that organised. Apparently the likes of Stian Boretti (Norway) and Timo Nieminen (take a wild guess) will be there, and I thought I'd post a message for those who may be interested in attending. When I find out more information I will add it here. :wavey:
