Hi everybody! There's a whole lot of Federer fans out here, in fact so many that it can easily get confusing. So, in this thread you have the opportunity to introduce yourself shortly, so we can all get to know each other a little bit better.

The veterans of the board know me pretty well here- for those of you that don't my name is Ron. I am a 24 y/o student from Israel. I am due to finish my degree in Computer Science and Management in February after which I hope to do a bit of travelling before finding myself stuck in an all-time consuming job. :wavey:

I got hooked on Roger after Wimbledon 2003- I noticed him long before that especially with his win over Pete at Wimbledon and his close match VS Hewitt at TMC Shanghai 2002.

Any concrete travel plans yet, Ron?

Nothing concrete but I was thinking in terms of Australia/ New Zealand.

I was actually supposed to finish my degree during the summer but my stupid faculty screwed up those plans by cancelling one of my courses :( My original plan was to go to Australia in January to see the Australian Open, stop over in Sydney and visit some friends ( I used to live in Sydney) and then travel to Perth and see the west coast with one of them. But alas it was not to be....

I've been on mtf for almost a month now and have never properly introduced myself

I'm a 24 yr old law student(entering the working world next year), lived in the U.S for most of my life, everyone calls me 'jo'.

I actually can't remember when i became a rogi fan; whenever it was, i've been captivated ever since. One of plans for the future is to see a live grand slam match. I'm really having fun on this site, it's nice to interact with people who have alot of interest in the sport.

Hi everyone!

I'm Ofir, 25 from Israel.
Like Ron I'm due to finish my math degree on february and...begin my second.

I first saw Roger play against Enqvist in the 2000 Basel final, and although he lost that match in 5 I couldn't ignore the vast potential.
Then came the lingering period of disappointments (what was I thinking...? he was merely a teenager), but when I watched the 2003 Wimbledon semis I knew I was witnessing something huge - and boy, was I right or what?

Hi Everyone!

I am ageless, from the East Coast of usa, but living in the northern sector of california since 1964! I've been a tennis fan since before 6th grade. In 7th grade we had to write a career notebook, and I chose "professional tennis". My favs then were Aussie's and Vic Seixes :)

I started playing when my parents ruined my life and sent me to overnight camp at 9 years old. Maybe the clay courts reminded me of the beach I no longer got to go to in the summers. From the first I liked the sport best because there was so much to do. I wasn't just standing in left field :) Actually, I liked it before that! My friends and I,in grade school, about 10 of us would congregate on one court and "play".

I was a Hingis fan, and Guga fan, a Rios fan, a Santoro fan, a Pat Rafter fan, and became a Roger fan in 2000-2001. Saw him in 2002 & 2003 at Indian Wells.

In non-tennis life I have always written, stories and poems. I am a retired HS teacher, and psychologist. I am currently writing a tennis memoir, just fisnishing the "shitty first draft..." Before I started coming here, more, I felt like I was all alone with Roger. Now I have to learn to share, lol. It is great to have a place to hear the latest, and this is the best place!

:wavey: Hi all,

My name is laura , too --I see I am not the only one... ;) I enjoy this site & visit quite often , so I figure its time to introduce myself.
I live in NYC & have been a fan of tennis for at least 12 years & Roger's fan since this past USO. His game & his smile made me a fan for life. Was there when he won the USO--a moment I will NEVER forget.

My other fav players: Mark.P, Nadal, Haas,Moya, Hewitt, AA, Gonzales & Massu (doubles) & my all time fav thats retired is Patrick Rafter!

I work as a bank teller (boring) but hopefully I will be returning to school soon so I can get a better job & make lots of money to support my tennis habit!

Thanks for this site & for all the great pictures of Rog!! LOVE THEM!!!

cheers & Happy Holidays!!!

Yea! I am a HS teacher and I have a degree in behavioral psychology~ :) (I teach Latin, Spanish and etymology)~
My name is Luna and I live in the southern USA~~but spent most of my childhood and early teens in Mexico.(D.F.)

I used to be an off and on again Sampras fan, but not to the extent that I am a Roger fan. He had me the first time I saw him play. ;)
I think he's the next best thing to chocolate! Really.

He has certainly brought me back into the world of tennis. After Sampras retired, I lost all enthusiasm for the sport.

I'm a 'sucker' for class~~and as far as I'm concerned Roger could be its *poster boy*!
Outstanding ~on and off the court!

Observation: All Federer fans I've met are classy, too~~and great fun!
Happy Weekend, everyone~ :wavey:

Well, most of you know already who I am.
To most of you I am known as Fedex; been a Federer fan since 01 Wimbledon when he defeated Sampras. I've followed tennis since the early 80's, and was an Edberg fan in the 80's, and later Rafter became my favourite player. I live in the US, although I do NOT support its tennis players, or our government leaders, lol. I live in Boston, and support the Red Sox. (obviously).

Hello all :wavey:

Laura seems to be a very popular name around here. And according to my crystal ball there is at least one more coming :p

I took the quiz, I didn't do that well on most of them. I don't remember my exact score for all of them. The ones I remember very well are 100 on Fedex's quiz and 90 or 80 on MisterQ's. You two really should close your curtain from time to time *adjusting binoculars*
Oh I remember now I got 20 on Seb's :o

Oh yeah about the introduction, almost forgot  My name is Lia. I am an Indonesian born Chinese. Err.... I think that's all I can think of about me :o

What's up fellow Federer fans, my name is Brian and I live in the USA, the Swiss flag is merely to show some support for my boy Roger. I first heard of Federer while watching Wimbledon coverage on NBC years back, they were talking about junior matches and said keep an eye on this Roger Federer. This was all during the midst of Hingis mania.

Anyways, I started following him and I just cannot believe the way this guy plays tennis, it is ridiculous, and he seems like a genuine person as well. It is just so inspiring his game, I mean he plays tennis like Monet painted, it's just a beautiful thing. And other times it is a sick thing, like he makes a shot that is so good, Patrick McEnroe has to say "look at that! that's just sick!" If I am having a bad day at work I think to myself "stay cool, let it flow, what would Roger do in this situation?" He helps me alot just through his mercurial genius

Let's go Roger!!!!!!!! GRAND SLAM BABY!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PUSH YO-SELF!!!!!!!

:wavey: all Rogi fans!

I guess it's time I checked out this thread and introduced myself altho a lot of people here know me fr other boards.

I first noticed the young Rogi when he lost to another fave of mine, Alex Corretja at QF RG01, then I went back to look at a match of my fave Aussie Pat Rafter fr Miami01, where he also beat the young Rogi. Since then, I was hooked! Not always the easiest following Rogi for a couple of years but he gradually matured and progressed to the champion that he is today!

Interesting to note that a lot of Rogi fans also liked Pat Rafter... 2 classy guys on and off the court.

Nice to see fans fr all over the world, all ages and backgrounds, which proves that Rogi is not just some teenie idol-type of guy...

Even though I live in the wrong part of the world imo, I've had the good fortune to see Rogi live three times!

My ambition is to see Rogi play on grass and on clay and perhaps at home in Switzerland!

;)

I'm 15 going on 16 next Thursday, hope u guys celebrate with me!!!!!!!!!

I know Roger when i am young, it's around 1999.I saw his picture on a magazine, and he's cute!!But at first, i dun know much about him as Sampras, Agassi, and many other players are so famous and talented at THAT MOMENT.

But i start to support and go for him when i am at about late 2000 until now and forever. I most definitely look at him as my one and only truly idolize player is when he wins over a 5 sets match against Pete Sampras.

Roger Federer SAID BEFORE:" IF U WANNA BE THE BEST, U GOTTA BEAT THE BEST!"

:wavey: I'm Raquel, I'm 20 from Glasgow in Scotland but have lived in London for over 4 years now and first saw Roger on TV at the old London Indoor event in 2000 and have been lucky enough to see him twice live at Wimbledon. I say lucky as he is always on the big courts now but I did get to see his QF last year as it was put on Court 2 because of rain the day before, so I was happy it rained at Wimbledon for once!

And yes I loved Pat Rafter too. I *really* wanted him to win Wimbledon but he will always have such classic matches there - the two Agassi semi finals and of course the Goran final :)

Yes, it's true and Rafter is a good example of a classy human being who managed to succeed he had his problems, and it's good that Rogi is compared to him in the personality stakes.

12-28-2004, 12:53 PM
I belong to the group of middle aged ladies ;) I have been following tennis since the mid eighties. My favourites were Stefan Edberg, Miloslav Mecir, Evgenij Kafelnikov (yeah, I know strange, but that's how it is) and the adorable Pete Sampras. I somehow lost touch when Pete Sampras retired and Marat Safin did not really get going.

Then Roger won Wimbledon in 2003 (I did not see it) and everybody talked about him. I was not convinced and decided to have a look myself. After I saw him playing and winning the tourney in Vienna, Austria, where I live, in October 2003, I became a complete convert. Since then, I followed his career closely. Tennis regained style, beauty and my interest. But I do like other players as well.

I use the pseudonym Puschkin, because I love reading and I have a soft spot for Russian culture.

I was going to add, "What about Stefan Edberg" -- another classy guy on/off court and great player -- when I saw Pushkin's post:
My favourites were Stefan Edberg ...
Was lucky enough to see Edberg play a couple of US Open warm-up tournaments in '90-'91 and, as great as it was to watch him on TV, nothing quite compared to seeing him in person.

Roger seems to have taken the best of Edberg and Rafter, along with other greats, and with his special brand of alchemy, talent, and hard work, turned the game into something new and more exciting than ever. Can't wait for the start of the 2005 season!

I'm Jo, and live in the UK near Reading (about 30 miles west of London). Been a tennis fan since Borg first won Wimbledon (yes, I must be older than anyone who's declared their age in this thread yet!). Took a bit of a break from the sport in the 90s, mostly due to fav players disappearing and Sampras dominating  . Didn't even get hooked when Roger beat Pete in 2001, although I was willing him on (mostly for Tim Henman's sake). However, I was absolutely re-captivated when I saw his Wimbledon semi-final in 2003, and have been a big fan ever since. I am probably the only fan who has nearly 40 video tapes of Roger's matches over the last year or so, but who has nothing to play them on ;)

yoohooo! come out !!! :wavey:

Hello, guys! I'm coming out.

I don't post frequently but I've really enjoyed your posts and pictures in this forum. Thank you for all your great jobs :worship: .

I'm a Korean living in US. My actual profession is a physician and now temporarily doing a research job at UC San Francisco.

Since I first noticed Rogi's game last year I've become his fan. I think that he's too brilliant and gorgeous for anyone who once witnesses him playing not to be falling in love with him. ;)

I'm really glad to know you Rogi fans all over the world. Wish you all happy new year it's a week late though...

Love,

RogiNie

I'm like Federer a lot, though I'm not as hard-core as some others here. ;) He has this annoying habit of beating Andre after letting Andre get really close, but I suppose I forgive him. But seriously, I have been impressed by his game since 2000 or 2001 --- there is so much to learn from the way he plays. I admire his intelligence and thoughful personality. I was impressed when I heard that he went to the opera when he was in Paris. No Michael Bolton or Kenny G for Rogi. (andre :smash: )

I'm Mari, and I'm from the Philippines.

I became a Roger fan this year, when I watched Wimbledon '04. He's just amazing. And he's a great person too --- such engaging modesty in the face of all his accomplishments!

I think he's a great role model for kids.

I wouldn't dare to call this my thread, it's the thread for all Federer fans, but since I started it, only me and the mods can rename it!

I really like the suggestions for the Federer Express, but I don't think a bullet train suits Roger too well. Bullet trains are only about speed and power, and Roger is not like that at all. A ride with the Federer Express should be a festive event, a very enjoyable ride, with many unique, beautiful views!
So, here's my suggestion for the Federer Express, which happens to drive in Switzerland as well! :)

Thanks!
You can see your Reps in the User Control Pannel. A GoodRep is marked by a green dot, a BadRep (which is quite rare, if you behave appropriately) is marked by a red dot. If somebody has less than 50 posts and Reps you, it is marked by a grey dot.
The whole idea behind the concept is to make the whole board more peaceful, and I think it works. Though some people tend to get addicted to getting as much Reps as possible )the so/called RepWhores). Don´t become one yourself!

Hi everyone!

Well, I don't remember exactly when I became a Federer fan. I knew who he was before he beat Pete at Wimbledon, but that match really made me take notice of him (even if I was devastated by it) and I knew he was going to win Wimbledon one day. He is my favorite pure player (meaning just based on his game, not whether or not I've met him or whatever, like the guys in my sig). He plays tennis like Michaelangelo sculpts and when you watch him you know you are seeing a divine gift at work. I finally decided to come over and officially join you all today because I have just had it with the bashing threads in GM at the moment. Sheesh.

Anyway, I am Fee, married, 29+ (that's all I'm saying :D ) and I live somewhere in California with my incredibly patient husband (who puts up with my tennis addiction). I'll try to stop by as often as I can. Go Roger!

You're welcome, and no problem. Andre's quote was a bit ambiguous and I just knew that someone would misunderstand it. I'm mostly neutral on Andre these days (he's done some things in the last few years that I found quite questionable, but I respect his incredible legacy in tennis) but one of his fans on this board in particular really turns my stomach (must be that 'Fuck you bitch' PM he sent me).

Anyhoo, back to Roger, and the fact that I really want him to win the GS this year. I would like to see that kind of history made in my lifetime and it couldn't happen to a cooler guy.

Welcome Fee, you must have been looking forward to a JMG v Fed match, was close to happening.

Actually, I had a very strong feeling that match was never going to happen, I even put a hint on my HP to that effect before the 1st round match. But what can you do. I've decided to ignore most of the GM trash from now and will only respond if someone posts incorrect information. I don't have enough time to argue opinions with people.

Thanks for the welcomes Fedfans. I like this train, the food and drinks in the dining car are EXCELLENT!

http://www.zermatt.com/zerstory/storypic/train.jpg

:hearts: :hearts: I love it!!! You're right, that totally fits what a Federer Express should be like :yeah:

I just hope Captain Roger is all fresh tomorrow, not take the wrong route and bring us to some dark tunnel instead...

ok...:smash: :smash: myself and :tape: :tape: :tape:

Add Serena to our Fan Club:

Serena on Roger
Serena Williams is a big fan of Roger Federer and was a jangle of nerves watching him on TV.

Federer lost to Marat Safin on Thursday night in a four-hour semifinal featuring eight match points.

“I was dying,” Williams said. “I couldn’t watch at one more point. I turned (the channel) when Federer was down 5-2 in the fifth, and then I turned back, and I was like, ‘Oh, I hate to see him lose.’ I turned back, and it was 6-all. I’m like, Oh, my God. But then I turned again because I couldn’t bear to watch.”

Williams sounded like a charter member of the Swiss star’s fan club.

“I think he’s an amazing athlete, just his ability is second to none,” she said. “I learn so much from his game. He’s just so smooth and so solid, effortless.”

I supervise students who take e-learning courses in physics (mechanics, astronomy, sciences teaching). And my main job is related to education as I'm a research assistant for a university.
