The best servers.....

The ATP is full of huge servers. Many players depend on their serve to win them a match and most of the times, their serves are so penetrating, it works. Who do YOU think is the best server.

07-18-2002, 09:10 PM
Well Taylor Dent just won a title with his serve. I like Rafter's serve, Rafter has a good back up and placement.

07-18-2002, 09:12 PM
Taylor Dent should be in that list instead of "other", which i assure you no one will pick

07-18-2002, 09:18 PM

07-18-2002, 09:21 PM
Pete Sampras :) :)

07-18-2002, 09:24 PM
Daniel are you serious??

07-18-2002, 09:30 PM
yes i am very serious why???

07-18-2002, 09:31 PM
1st of all, you didnt vote.
2nd of all, PETE SAMPRAS??
he has a... nice serve... but not as good as the other fellows here!

07-18-2002, 09:41 PM
I did

07-18-2002, 10:01 PM

I voted for Goran, but all those players are exellent servers, speccially Dent and Krajicek;)

aura of moya

No doubt about it, Wayne Arthurs has the best serve on the tour.

Impossible to pick, and when you pick it, it bounces all over the place.

Anyone who can go unbroken for stretches of 50 to 100 service games is the best.

If you gave his serve to any decent ground stroker, it would be game over.

Imagine a Hewitt with Arthurs serve

Thats a scary thought

Goran´s serve is the best effective one WHEN it works. As it is not very reliable, since he can get 20947183569235 aces in a row AS WELL AS that many double faults in a row, overall I cant say he has the best one.
Taylor Dent has LOADS of power, and is a POTENTIAL best server. But he is not consistent enough yet to make it a reliable weapon.
And I must agree with Lindsayfan and Daniel, Petes serve is great. Maybe you didnt see it when it was effective, but it was a major weapon. And a plus, it used to ALWAYS work.
Krajicek´s motion is great, and Rafter has the most beautiful serve.

Overall, I still get Sampras, since he is the one who had it working for longer, who won a lot of matches on that weapon, and had it consistently at his serve. Serving is not only blasting, it is mental preparation and a matter of picking the right choice. Pete did all that. :)

Didn't Pete hold serve at Wimbledon for over 100 straight games?

Right now his serve might not be what it was, but back in the day it was so he gets the nod from me.

Goran as well, who wouldn't have won WImbledon without it.

07-19-2002, 01:38 AM
Guga has a terrific serve. when it gets in that is -- bec he misses a lot of first serves (never the second). but as per form, it's up there with the best. ;) ;)

07-19-2002, 01:48 AM
Wayne Arthurs

07-19-2002, 08:47 AM
Richard Krajicek ....... poetry in motion
he can do alot with the ball as well on his serve :)

07-19-2002, 09:45 AM
goran and pete when they are at their best :) but where are they now, wa, i miss them :(

07-19-2002, 10:19 AM
I'd say Greg Rusedski, not also does he just have the fastest serve but his new serve compared to his last one has a lower ball toss so it makes it harder to read and he has good variation to it. And he can put great angle onto it and can do alot with the ball like topspin and slice.

Goran, if he's on, he's on !!

07-19-2002, 10:59 AM
Pete's is still the best server :)

07-19-2002, 11:11 AM
malisse, when his first serve is there OMG.. you better watch out :p.. krajicek said that malisse in wimbledon in the fifth set awesome served and yeah he hit a lot of aces and serve pretty good :)

07-19-2002, 11:25 AM
why do u think they call him that??

07-19-2002, 11:35 AM

07-19-2002, 12:19 PM
Mark .......... 9 times out of 10 when he is break point down he will serve a double fault or miss his 1st serve

07-19-2002, 02:02 PM
I would like to know where is Guga on the list..

He has a terrific serve, and he almost doesn't make a double fault. It's really unforgivable to forget him on this list..

He serves as strong and good like Safin and Roddick...

07-19-2002, 02:07 PM
While I agree with you, Bernardo, that Gugas serve really deserves at least a mention, we should remember what Tennischick said: He misses A LOT of first serves. And although he second serve is VERY GOOD, it makes it hard to put him on top of this list. And you know Im a HUGE fan... Maybe if he tried hitting his first serves at 70% instead of 90%...

07-19-2002, 02:49 PM
Sampras has or had the best serve I think. He has power and precision.

:fiery:  :fiery:

Id say Marat, but im biased.

07-19-2002, 11:12 PM
Goran !!!

07-20-2002, 01:17 PM

07-20-2002, 01:21 PM
Wayne Arthurs has a great serve, probably the best right now, when its working.
Also Pete at his peak was probably the best serve of the 90's.

07-20-2002, 10:34 PM
Overall, I'd say Sampras

07-21-2002, 08:38 PM
Nobody compares to Goran on this, they don't even come close

07-22-2002, 05:36 AM
goran and marat

07-22-2002, 08:02 PM
Pete Sampras

07-22-2002, 10:00 PM

Richard Krajicek hit 50+ aces a couple of years ago at the US Open.

Goran was averaging 30-40 aces per match in several tournaments.

07-24-2002, 04:39 PM
Sampras held 87 straight service games until the US Open in 2001 in the final. the FIRST game of the match sampras lost serve to that dang aussie hewitt :(

07-24-2002, 04:52 PM
Also Xavier Malisse

Richard Krajicek hit 50+ aces a couple of years ago at the US Open.

And didn't he still manage to lose :o Didnt he do that against Kafelnikov?

Goran did hit more aces in one Wimbledon than anyone else ever - then broke his record again in 2001 when he actually won.

I picked Pete though cause he used to be more consistent with it - like he'd play like crap but serve his way out of it.

Goran is really inconsistent - but I didn't watch back in the early to mid 90's so I missed him then.

In terms of serving at their best, Goran is better imo, but I lean towards Pete for consistency.

In no particular order.

In no particular order.

Props for using the search, but in this case a new or newer thread would be better. All the guys in the survey has retired expect for Roddick. I'd say Karlovic has the best serve.
