Kei Nishikori has withdrawn from Basel, that means Grigor doesn't need to play to get in the main draw. :)

It's only good if Grigor is fit enough to play himself. Do we know if he has recovered from his injury?

That's not a bad draw for Grigor. Troicki has good days and bad days but this is a winnable match for Grigor if he has fully recovered from his recent injury.

Incredible match from Grigor who was stunning to watch. That shot was out of this world but his backhand slice and drop-shot were great throughout the match. I hope he can play like this against Benneteau.

Nice to see him constantly on the attack and playing with a sense of purpose. It's what has been lacking recently.

Great match from Grigor today; he is such a different player when he lands that first serve on the Ad side out wide; his forehand has was consistent and he was able to put Troicki under pressure repeatedly. I will say that Troicki played a very poor match and was very passive. I like the fact that Grigor converted 50% of breakpoints and hit a forehand winner on the only breakpoint he faced. 'The Shot' was obviously great - not much you can add there. Hopefully he can have a repeat performance against Bennetteau...my gut tells me he's on a mission here :)

Great result and these are the types of matches that will turn him into a top player. He's struggled with tie-breaks and losing an early lead in the past but he showed today he can re-focus and dig deep when he has to. A win in the next round would move him into the top 50 where he belongs.

Well of course we all want Grigor to win today :) After all if he does - he will reach his first semifinal at ATP 500 event, he will finally break the Top 50 and he will meet Roger.
The only bad thing is that he will have to skip the Paris Masters, because he has to start from qualies, but if he wins today - on Saturday he will play Roger. There's one SE spot in the Masters, but I think he need to play a final in Basel to get it and I don't think he will get a WC as well :) So most probably a win today, means he will finish the season tomorrow with the match against Roger ... unless he beat him :D :D

Winning matches here is far more important than playing qualifiers in Paris. I would love to see a match between Grigor and Roger. I think it would be a great experience for him and as long as he goes into it believing he can win.

why?
the only other candidates for a SE were goffin, paire, mathieu and dodig.
goffin lost, paire will hopefully lose as well as mathieu ;) and dodig might also play a challenger (he could lose, too, of course). So if he wins he will be the only candidate for a SE :)

Shame he lost but there have been a lot of positives this week and he's always fun to watch. I liked when he got mad when PHM served for the match and really went for his shots. He needed to do that more often. He really needs to work hard on the off-season and come back fitter and stronger. 2013 could be a very good year for him if he does.

He's the last match on Court2 so at least he has a little time to recover.

Patrick Mouratoglou gave an interview for the bulgarian media from Istanbul and from his words I guess that the official end of his partnership with Grigor is near. Here is my translation of the 2 questions about that:

Do you already have a plan about your work with Grigor for the next year?
- Not yet. First that year has to end. He has two more tournament and after that we will talk about the future.

- Will you continue to work with him?
- I can't say anything at the moment. We will discuss that when the season is over. For now I don't know.

I think that everything is over for a long time - since he started travelling (and doing some other stuff) with Serena and now they are just waiting for the end of the season to announce it.
