I used to think like this some time back, then I visited wtaworld, saw a bucket load of goofy gifs and the word "pressed", and learned to appreciate how good we have it here.

I know it goes against his character, but I see Andy playing half-arsed in Tokyo and Shanghai.. might lose to someone like Chardy again. Best to peak for after the Asian swing methinks, even if he has to sacrifice some points (number 1 will be a stretch this year anyway)

The guy is strong with his views, like quite a lot of Aussies I've known. I'm not in love, but don't have a problem with him. Usually agree with him whenever he veers away from his Murray tourette's.

Yeah, made some good friends here before they even realised I existed. Sounds creepier than it really is.

Yeah, I agree with him most of the time as well. Although I would probably word things differently or just keep out of the discussion altogether. I mean, just imagine how much you would have to type if you were to put all idiots on here in their place... I'm way too lazy for that.

I wouldn't say lots, but I've read quite a few intriguing posts. Sadly, most people let me down eventually and posted something that made me lose respect for them. And others don't post here anymore (for the most part). I miss fast_clay.

Berdych is the 2nd seed and Raonic is there too. I don't see anyone else who could threaten him, but you know, we thought that about Chardy as well.

Seeds:
Andy Murray
Tomáš Berdych
Janko Tipsarević
Juan Mónaco
Nicolás Almagro
Milos Raonic
Kei Nishikori
Stanislas Wawrinka

indeed, he is too kind. he was close to being 6-1 vs deliciano in the USO, that was a bad match :o

Mission for next two years, Make Federer a pigeon, end Nadal's pigeon hold on him and establish a positive H2h vs. Nole.

Let's hope he never runs into Nadal on clay again then. He has had the edge on hard since he entered the top 10. I'll just ignore him losing to Rafa in 3 slams last year.

Johnny Groove posted 3 threads in quick succession "what is the greatest fed v Nadal/ Nadal v Djokovic/Djokovic v Fed match?"

As a result a swarm of imitations occured including "the greatest Ferrer v Federer match (poll options all Federer wins)", the worst Fed v Nadal match (poll options all Nadal losses), The greatest Fed v Suizuka match, Del Potro v Harrison match etc etc and of course "what is the greatest greatest match thread"

 GM clogged up and then the mods arrived :o

Dammit now I feel like I ought to be checking GM regularly at this time of year.

Hi. My name is Madeline and I'm far too old to be playing with you lot.

I used to post here a bit a couple of years ago, but it was so quiet I forgot about it. However I am on several other forums, at least two of them totally Murray-dedicated, so I do run out of time for forum-reading sometimes.

I usually only post in GM when somebody says something bad or inaccurate about Andy.

It is a big source of amusement to me that I have only ever had two bad reps in all my time on here. The first was years ago, from GlennMirnyi of great fame, who bad-repped me for being a Muzzatard. The second was from Sapeod, because I mildly criticised him for his OTT posts, who said I wasn't a big enough Muzzatard!

La Monf in R1?

That could be a tricky opener - Andy is likely to be rusty while Gael has hit the ground running a bit on his comeback.

Baptism of fire for our first match of the thread. Andy just can't help but give us some excitement before the tournament has even begun. I expect Monfils to help himself to the first set before Andy gets going.

Could count Davydenko at Wimby this year, though that might be just age related. Pretty sure he drew Baggy in the first round of Tokyo last year and has drawn Nalby in the early rounds of masters a few times.

Always sucks when a talented player can't stay fit enough to compete. Hopefully it's a precaution.

Karlovic is always awkward, and Andy won't get the rallies he'd like to have to get into his groove for the rest of the tournament. But a good test to see how sharp his return is after the long break. Should be fun

Decent match, more of a step back for Andy with his style of play today. Wasn't aggressive very often, but knows how to play Dolgo. Strange to see him slamming racquets more often now that he has a slam. Must be the added expectations thing.

Roger :scared: Oh I don't like this Match up! Andy has not been playing well plus he has gone back to his old on court bad behavior

A classic Murray match: Curses, winces, stupid shot making, and yet he gets it done in the end.

Of course he needs to play better against Roger.

Eep- I'm really worried. I don't think Andy will win this unless he suddenly plays a lot better than he has.

Why worry? He already won Shanghai twice, his ranking is safe and he wouldn't be getting to #1 or #2 this year anyway. All good. If he loses this, then so be it. At least it won't be to a mug.

That said, come on Andy!

Andy won 64 64

Sounds like an anodyne score but it was a bit of a crazy match - Andy always the better player Roger had moments of brilliance and a LOT of mess, including those 3 DFs in a row to be broken in game 5 of the first set

And a huge break in the Match because it started to rain and it took for forever to close that roof! And next up is Nole :scared: And for some reason I keep wanting to type his name as Noel! I had better not do that in GM

Really impressed with Murray's composure in the secondset Good win, now bag the title!

Great stuff.

It was more painful to watch than a 6-4 6-4 routine job should have been, but you can't control the weather or what the opponent does.

Congrats to Andy, now go get that title.

I didn't know whether to  or :superlol: at how this match unfolded. Shakespeare would've :worship: at all the drama.

I liked it. Always feel comfortable when Andy is secure on serve, even if he isn't taking full advantage of his numerous break point opportunities.

Combine that with some of his best returning of the year and you have a nice tasty Swiss stew.

About the Swiss champ, he really put the umpire in a tough position. Almost felt for him, because you could see he was uncomfortable stamping his authority against Federer, and telling him him how things will go down. Rarely see that sort of thing from Fed, but it's obvious he is more riled up when playing Andy than against almost anyone else.

Nole-Andy: Let the showdown commence

Those are healthy expectations, I think.

Yes, Shanghai and WTFs would be great. I wouldn't mind him winning Paris and Basel either.

I think we're getting addicted to Andy winning and want it to continue. And really can anyone blame us after what this man has put us through?

That's how it starts. Then you're demanding 3 slams in a year before you'll call it a good season and moaning cos your guy still hasn't won every title at least 6 times, like some Roger fans do.

Seems like a vicious cycle.

A good chunk of Roger's fanbase are gloryhunters plain and simple. And the rest are greedy. It's not enough for Roger to win, but he must crush everyone in his path and as you said win the same title 90 times if possible.

We really need to be careful and not become like them.

Seems like a vicious cycle.

It is. But we don't have to be like them. We can just do what we always do: Cheer for Andy win or lose.

To quote Mae, Close but no :smoke:

Proud of Andy for the efforts that really should have won him the match in straights. He won't get the praise he deserves in GM, but he was great. The mental toughness of Djokovic is always impressive, so good for him.

Not all that disappointed though, Andy won when it mattered, and 5 match points here.. still the better player currently in my completely biased opinion :yeah:
