Youzhny might be the favorite, but apart from him the tournament is wide open.
That's why I chose for the poll simply all players who already had better or equal results in their careers than/to a title here.
So, for all other players the Petersburg title would be the biggest success in their careers so far,
for example for Klizan, Istomin, Lacko and Berankis.

Mikhail probably, but this is a great chance for a player to win his first title.

Better than LA

True dat.

St Petersburg used to be good, with the kremlin Cup on carpet IIRC

Top 10 players like Kraijeck and Goran

Serra and Ram in the poll :help: If Youzhny doesn't win this tournament he'll never win another title

Youzhny is the favourite for sure but fancy Lu myself.

Youzhny has been in awful form recently, really needs to pick it up.

Time for another title Stakhovsky. Your fans are waiting. Repeat your 2009 heroics.

Yeah, this is a great opportunity for him. And if he makes the final he's a shoe-in :p

Andreev, who currently plays DC at Outdoor clay in Argentina (jet lag + transitioning problems await him) and even retired in his friday match, might be even worse a choice for the poll.
Whereas Istomin and Lacko made Indoor finals this season and Klizan defeated Tsonga at the USO.
However, I intentionally didn't add them to the poll (as I tried to explain in post #1).
St.Petersburg is maybe the last real opportunity of the season for a player to win their maiden title (at ATP WorldTour level).
But who could it be? I don't know. Do you? ...Anybody?

...When was the last season nobody won their first title in?

Is this season a season nobody won his first title in? wow i didn't know it

LA was way better than this, maybe not statistically wise considering the player's ranking, but this draw is just awfully muggy.Terrible tournament, and expect some fixing as well.

Why has it been moved forward? From my recollection it's always been the week before Bercy.

Because they've shortened the season by one week at the players' request.

if Stakhovsky reaches SF its almost over, if he reaches final, its over. Statistically, he wins more final matches than Nadal.

Such a shit draw  Cilic isn't even going to defend his win from last year... It's up there with Casablanca for the worst draw of the year...

He thinks he is good enough to win an ATP 500 the following week with Djokovic, Nadal, Ferrer and Tsonga. Truth will hurt.

I like these wide open tournaments just like was Zagreb, Kitzbuhel, Los Angeles and so on :)

For what I only hope is Klizan overcoming fatigue after DC - getting into SF and Lacko breaking 7 matches losing streak and get to QF, at least - even though Zemlja is on fire right now.

Muller is the only one going close to it winning a set against Roddick.

Kubot isn't even ranked high enough get a top 8 seed in this glorified challenger? :help:

Good luck to Lukasz. Should he somehow fail to win the title, I wouldn't be too stressed if either the Fog or Berankis won it. That said, none of them will probably make R2. :o

Becker and Nieminen OUT De Schepper and Berrer LL

WTH?

WTH?

They withdrew from the tournament. Have no idea why. I wish Nieminen played, that was his chance to earn some points as the draw is kinda weak.

On paper, Youzhny should win this thing. However, with the mug Youzhny usually is, he might fail terribly. If Youzhny doesnt take it, Istomin is the only capable player of winning such a mug event.

I think Istomin is currently biggest favourite.

I mean the players he mentioned play in Metz, not St.Petersburg. What's more de Schepper didn't lose a match in qualies, so he can't be a LL.
