Can Djokovic become the first in the Open Era to win 3 consecutive AO titles?

Emerson did it pre-Open era from 1963-1967 and also Crawford 1931-1933 lol.

9 times now a man has won 2 in row, but failed to win 3 in a row...

1.) Ken Rosewall 1971-1972, failed in 1973.
2.) Guillermo Vilas 1978-1979, failed in 1980.
3.) Johan Kriek 1981-1982, failed in 1983.
4.) Mats Wilander, 1983-1984, failed in 1985.
5.) Stefan Edberg 1985, 1987, failed in 1988 (AO not held in 1986)
6.) Ivan Lendl 1989-1990, failed in 1991 (even made the final, 1 match short, 20 consecutive matches won).
7.) Jim Courier 1992-1993, failed in 1994.
8.) Andre Agassi 2000-2001, failed in 2002 but did not play it in 2002 at all but won again in 2003 (last grand slam for him).
9.) Roger Federer 2006-2007, failed in 2008 (lost in the SF to Djokovic, Djokovic's first grand slam).

Now we have Djokovic, he won in 2011 over Murray and 2012 over Rafa, but will he win 3 in a row in 2013?

No. Have you forgoten murray will win the CYGS in 2013. No chance for anybody else.

Also Federer will fall.

How would you rank the top 4 by chances of winning the 2013 from best to worst? I'd have Rafa at the bottom for sure, but among the other 3 I'm not really sure how to rank them.

Now all that's left is Roger beating nadal in a slam again. Maybe 2013 AO with nadal coming back after 6 months off.

Only if Djikovic 2.0 turns up, that is not going to happen. I expect Muzza to win his first OZ open next year.

Nole is done. I don't give a shit about him. He can go win futures for all I care. He won't be winning too many slams though. Go cry to mama about the wind.

it's possible

he can equal agassi and federer by winning 4 australian opens

if he wins three in a row, first time ever

its his best surface, federer isn't stopping him, nadal isn't stopping him, murray is the only hope

Murray to stop the selfish arrogant attention-seeking "Novak"

Well... It depends on the way he plays and how in-form Nadal and Federer will be. At this point, I don't think they are nearly fit enough to survive a 5 hour match against Djokovic on hard court and come out as the winner. Murray has a great chance if he keeps this up. He now won 2 big matches in a row against Djokovic. That's always helpful.

I think its pretty certain Nole will come back in AO way stronger, it remains to be seen if the rest will manage to keep up.

Don't see why it's a given that Nadal won't be fit enough to last with Novak on a HC for 5 hours. He did this year and this time he'll have been training solid for 2 months and be a lot less tired. Also, Djokovic had spent far less time than Murray on court in the tournament overall yet he was the one cramping and more tired by the end.

I think it'll be a tight contest - any of Djokovic, Nadal or Murray could win it - on the slow Aus Open surface the match up is very very close. Whichever of Murray/Nadal gets Federer is luckier. Strangely Novak even though ranked higher is guaranteed a tougher draw as he can't face the easiest of the top 4 on that surface (for him especially) until the final (barring some epic Murray run in the next few months which sees him join the top 2).

Novak could do it but it was a battle this year and if anything Murray's narrowed the gap further now and Nadal is mentally stronger (though obviously will be lacking matches so who knows what his AO will be like...).

Djokovic could win 3 slams next year actually...

If he gets upset at his bastion though, anything can happen...

Novak has it in the bag unless his confidence is shattered by a poor finish to 2012 or injuries.

Best movement on the AO surface, good conditions and I don't see anyone stopping him.
