After that mediocre first set, Andy played great in the wind. Berdych could do absolutely nothing. He gave some resistance in the final set and it was a tense tiebreak, but it wasn't enough. Never in doubt.

Many haters started celebrating after the first set and then began whining when Murray started winning. Andy is into his 5th slam final and 2nd in a row. Suck it :wavey:

Murray's charmed tournament life continues. Given his luck so far Ferrer will probably beat No2e and then catch a cold before the finals.

Wind turned this match into a complete mugfest after Berdych took the first set, he got his head together in the fourth but then bottled the tb as expected.

USOpen continues to look like the worst slam of the year...again

Berdych had it on his racket but the wind and his own lack of concentration cost him the match. He's not gonna feel good about that 4th set TB. Threw it away.

Wind was a shame. Perfect conditions and Berdych likely had won the match in 3 or 4 sets. Berdych will rule in the indoor season if he doesn't let this loss get to him

Berdych lacked belief there for a lot of it. In the fourth set he played very well and showed that maybe the wind thing is more mental. Murray lucky to pull out the 4th in the end.

Now hope Djoko-Ferrer is a marathon.

The title belongs to Djokovic now. Only Berdych had any chance against him. Poor Murray will 0-5 in slam finals now.

Berdych let wind affect him way too much especially considering he played pretty good in first set.

Berdych can only blame himself. He was really good on the first set and Murray was doubtful if pushing would work in the long run. But it did work... with help from the wind. Berdych quickly lost his range completely until it's almost too late *sigh*

Murray was a bit lucky at the end, Berdy could have easily won that breaker.

The wind robbed us of a potentially awesome match. They both did their best in the conditions but Berdych was the one suffering the most out there with his offensive game, made loads of errors. Too bad really.

Is it time for Murray's first slam now?

Murray handled better conditions that´s it, pls USO give roof, i am wondering if they would have played under roof if they have it, i mean yes no rain but that wind made that match low quality. Hope F will be played in ,,normal,, conditions, because i don´t want to see another windy match where both player are trying to just put ball in play and wind to decide the champion. Also i think if they played at Armtrong it would be better - not so windy there for sure.

Murray did not play the level of tennis he played at the Olympics but he was by far the better player.

He is a fantastic tennis player with many different abilities.

His match against Raonic was stunning,
has match against Cilic was bad/disappointing,
today's match was ok.
The way he played under the wind was bad (in first set) and clever (in 2nd and 3rd set).

Berdych was IMO bad and disappointing the whole match.
Even his first set was very up-and-down with many errors.

I think we reached the part where Murraytards are even worse than Nadaltards.

At least most Nadal fanboys (and fangirls who aren't in it for the muscles) understand that every player is hated on MTF and know to focus their energy on trolling Fedtards.

But Murray fans have some weird prosecution complex, like their beloved pusher is above all trolling and pointing out his luck, terrible attitude and cowardly game is some slight on old Blighty and the Queen herself.

A match not able to live up to its potential due to the condtions, still it was the same for both players and Andy coped with it better, Berdy had a chance in this match no doubt but he chose to go to sleep for 2 sets, Andy was just doing what he had to do, he was clutch and agressive when it mattered the most.

Congratulations Andy on your 5th slam final! :D As Lendl said its not about winning 6 matches its about winning 7. Best of Luck!!

ugly match played under awful conditions. murray showed why he is a great player, adapted better througout and did not let weather get to him a lot. conditions were borderline unplayable, but that is outdoor tennis. unlike djokovic, berdych at least did not whine.
other than that, only patches of bearable tennis.
murray now with excellent chances to win a first slam, and, being among those who always believed he will one day, it would delight me - even it's won over djoko in the finals. always great to have a new GS champion, even if that means that sapeod and corey will spam the boards into oblivion.

What a strange match. Murray played pretty clever after that first set where he was barely attacking any balls. He got the balance right for the conditions after that and he also did well to increase his 1st serve percentage by taking the pace off it. I think he ended up serving 100% 1st serves in set 3. Berdych must have felt pretty stupid after seeming to unlock the puzzle only after it was too late.

After the match:
“Those were some of the hardest conditions I’ve ever played in for sure,” Murray said afterwards, “and I come from Scotland so that is saying something. You had to focus for every single point, you had to get yourself into position. It was hard to serve – I wasn’t really going for aces because it was so hard to control the second serve.”

“There should be some rule about conditions,” Berdych said afterwards. “The people here want a show, but this was not a show. It was just about trying to put the ball over the net. I thought I had a good chance in this match but the wind blew it away from me.”

because he started to risk 1st serves, where he got lucky few times to actually hit them.
He won 1st set because Murray still didn't know how to use the wind in his favor.

Also it got so tight in 4th because Murray was so relaxed, way too relaxed and Berdych saw it as opportunity.

lets face the truth...Muzza is a better player and deserved to win . he adjusted to adverse conditions and found a right
game for it. its not about if there wasn't wind and if , if ... infinite ifs . two gladiators on the court - better

No.

But I guess the US open officials know less than you.

If I can apologise for being unkind a second, there's more wind coming from you than in that match.

Let it go.

More important things in life. :)

you're just pathetic, no need to keep replying to you, sorry...

It was the same for both players though. The US open is an outdoor tournement, it will sometimes be windy and the players just have to try and deal with that.

The better player won in the end, no doubt about that.

windy? did you just say windy?
Stop pretending that you don't know the difference between 'windy' and HEAVY wind conditions!

Congrats to Tomas. He fought very hard and wasn't that far from defeating the superior determination that Murray had to be in the final... one way or another. I bet he had a lot of people scared during that fourth set tiebreak.

Just hope he's not affected for not being allowed to compete for a Slam final spot and has a strong indoor season. He should be proud, as realistically he should have lost this match in 3 easy sets considering the conditions in which they played.

I know it's difficult to say for sure but based on how both players seemed on the court, in your opinion would Murray still have won the match if the wind was taken out of the equation? In Berdych's press conference after the match he didn't particularly credit Andy with playing better tennis but said the wind was what beat him.

Was Murray just the better player on the day or could you have seen a different outcome?

I've said before they shouldn't play matches when the wind gets above a certain measured wind speed but as usual tennis doesn't want to address the issue scientifically.

No, no, no, you gotta play the matches as is. The wind is the same for both players.

I recall Agassi playing vs. Fed in the QF of USO 2004, with like 30 mph winds, and the interviewers after asked him about the wind. His response?

"What wind?" :p

You gotta adapt to the conditions, and if you don't, tough shit  The only time they shouldn't play is when it is dangerous. Rain, lightning, things like this. But a tough wind that you have to adapt your game to? That's just wuss to call it off.

Your boy did very well today coping with the wind.

don't know, but we would have had much better tennis instead of that torture.
Even when I was willing to forget about the wind, the commentator just went on and on on about it..

Not taking anything away from Murray, definitely not his fault ofc, but this match really should have been suspended like Ferrer-Djokovic.

unfortunetly egg boy's stamina is incredible
he must really drink his milkshakes

no, muzzah has to beat him fair and square

this is andy's 5th final

if he plays like a pusher novak is going to skin him alive
if he plays too agressive novak will just play in "nadal-mode" and out last him

muzzah has lendl with him- the best guy on earth to ask about this since lendl's game would have been perfect against nole

If Nole 2.0 comes out no matter how Mugray plays well he cant beat him. But you never know its best of 5...everything can happend. But well, Nole isnt in final yet so its premature.

And yet they wanna boycot AO that to be honest had the most exciting tennis over last years.

Man, what a piece of crap. I was so excited for this match. Damn. Berdbrain couldn't find the court if it crawl up in his pants and lick his ass. All Murray had to do was keep the ball in play. It's mot like Berdbrain couldn't play in the wind. When the guy finally able to hold his brain together, he made a competitive showing. Almost taking the 4th set after being 0-3 down, even. Fuck the the wind. Shit SF of a slam. Not entertained. Not entertained, at all.

Whatever.

All we know for sure is that Andy adjusted to the conditions better than Berdych. Wind was terrible in the first set and Andy's level was really bad, he improved as the match went on while Berdych was really streaky.

As a Nadal fan you should know better

I must say I like the wind excuses. Berdych got what he deserved for being way too cocky before the match and then for being an ass during the match. Tough luck.
