Del Potro :worship: He was just amazing down the clutch. Both players striked the ball well and were mostly evenly matched, but Delpo just drove Novak crazy with his ability to come up with incredible shots in clutch situations.

Amazing that he bounced back so well after that semifinal, especially mentally. I'm very proud of his performance and very happy that he is taking a medal home, he deserves it :woohoo:

Sorry for Nole (who deserved it too) and his fans  But Juan needed it more: Novak already has a medal and everyone knows how great he is. Delpo needed this to remind people with short memories of what an awesome player he is and can be.

Hope to see this two play in a Slam final in the future, it's always great tennis in this matchup.

 Nole looked far more dominant at the beggining. Lost only one point on serve in 5 games, missed 3bp at 3-2 and got broken at 5-5. I think it was not his day. Well done to Del Potro. Well deserved medal. After that epic against Federer didn't give up and won the bronze for his country :hatoff:

Against Murray he messed up..especially in the 2nd set.
Remember when it was I think 5-5 and Djo was up 30-15 AND 40-30 and Andy was on his 2nd serve both were weak and Djo could have...should've punished that he would've broken there and maybe even won the match. Things would've been different now.

Still...I think Djo just didn't care for bronze here. He already has an olympic medal he wanted the gold so much.

this was worst tournament with worst surface i ever saw in my entire life.

I am glad it is over.

Better player lost

Nole had more winners, better first serve and better stats but he lost - reason fucked up surface of so called "grass" of Wimbledon courts.

This tournament should be indoors not outdoors because organizers cant keep good surface entire tournament.

Same thing happened in match between Federer - Del Potro - also better player lost.

I like to watch tennis where wins player who can outplay its opponent and have more winners than he.

Tennis is game of winners not game of serving bots.

At least for me.

And this fucked up surface make up game where player who is better serve bot - is winner.

The match was very even, I thought. Delpo was just driving Novak crazy with his incredible play in clutch moments, that was the only difference in the end.

Nole already had a medal and has nothing left to prove, everyone knows what a great player he is. This was more important for Juan, who people seem to have forgotten what an awesome player he is and can be. Not to mention how much this medal means to him.

An amazing performance and victory for Delpo! Awesome really! After such a heartbreaking defeat against Roger, you could easily tell how much a win today meant for him. For the people that don't like him, should be tough to not feel at least a bit happy for this feat! As long as Del Potro keeps going deep in the tournaments it merits respect. Especially after that crazy injury he had a few years back.

But probably at this point he should try to compete for another slam. Nadal is injury prone, Federer is olderer, and the only other threat is Djokovic and Murray. Guys like Potro and Tsonga need to take advantage and get the final results.

Regardless congratulations on the Bronze.

Yes hes not like 2011, but no one in tennis is gonna have the same aura that they had in one year. Even Fed after his amazing 06 year hasnt had the same aura and incredible year. No, you're wrong Mikey. Nole excells at Ao but also at USO and fast hardcourts. Don't forget he's won WTF, USO and Paris before and pretty convincingly. Delpo quotes after the match:

"I don't have the words to explain," Del Potro said. "It's similar to winning a Grand Slam (title) or maybe even bigger. It's amazing."
Del Potro had lost 3-6, 7-6 (5), 19-17 on Friday to Federer in the longest best-of-three set match in men's tennis in the Open era - 4 hours, 26 minutes.

"I think I'm the most happy of the world at this moment," Del Potro said. "After a really sad day two days ago, it's not easy to recover and to play these kind of matches."

Djokovic said he failed to capitalize on his chances, and that Del Potro deserved to win.
"Disappointing end, but I enjoyed it," the second-seeded Serb said. "It was a pleasure playing for my country."

Why the hell does Murray look the most miserable, he won Gold for fucks sake whereas those other two pansies got cardboard box medals (I'm joking)
Maybe because a king doesn't smile when being bowed to ... either that or he's trying to be the neutral referee in their game of rock, paper, scissors.

Congratulations to Del Potro, a very deserved medal! Played some unreal shots today, really went for it.
Djokovic is...well, what pissed me off was not his play (I reckon he plays the best he is able at the moment), but his attitude and on-court behaviour. He behaved like a petulant, prissy kid. Disgraceful.

Agreed. It was not in the Olympic spirit at all. But I understand him too, he wanted it too much and it just wouldn't come to him.

But, hey, if Federer has a shot in Rio, then Djokovic will surely have his as well ;)

Healthy Olderer losing to a "mug moonballer" in a slam final 6-1 6-3 6-0 was even worse, but of course, Fedtards like you tend to forget that match and instead bring up every match Nadal lost. Might I remind you that your God choked to Del-Shitro in USO final?

Of course he feels this way even though he's got a real GS. He got the ONLY medal for Argentina. So yeah, it's a big deal for his country. It's like when Novak won the medal at Beijing. Not many are winning medals for Serbia.

Bronze doesn't seem like much but it's still a medal and something to be proud of.

I didn't expect that JMDP would have recovered from the SF to win this match. Congratulations to him and Argentina for the Bronze medal :yeah:

Come to think of it, JMDP recovered well after losing to Ferrer at the Davis Cup final --- even though he lost both times, he didn't show too much physical fatigue when playing Rafa last year in Sevilla.

This time, he executed his game to his best and played an excellent match against Djokovic. The fact that Djokovic served much better than JMDP, yet still lost, shows the improvements that JMDP made to his game. I'm so happy for this win, I don't think I've ever been so happy to see an athlete win bronze medal at the Olympics before. To an outsider it might "just look like bronze," but after seeing how JMDP played Federer in the semi-final, and how honestly happy and proud he was to beat Djokovic for 3rd, the tennis singles bronze medal shines something special this year!

Gonzo would be proud :worship:

I don't know is there anything positive that I can say. I can only say that I am disappointed. I don't know if I should call it bad luck or to say that simply it was not meant to be and that he was better. I have to congratulate to my opponent, he played great. Yes there were chances for the match to go my way, can't deny that. But it is what it is.
