I think at some point Djokovic will realize how well he did to even win Wimbledon once. By far his worst surface and it showed again today.

Also, serve and volley on match point down was silly and it showed he wasn't really feeling he could come back.

Also, pathetic stuff from Nole.

The best Murray has played in ages. Ever?

There was no room for Pushray. Serveray, Aggressiveray and Clutchray were all at once playing today.

I respect him now.

Congratulations to him!

Fuck my luck :o Credit to Murray he played well but Nole had so many chances to break in the decider. He wasn't there when it was the most important
When he had that bp at 5-5 he should've finished the point but he decided to go for the CC FH and it cost him.
At least take the bronze Nole

Ive watched the end of the second set, and it was nothing special really. Murray saving a break point was good, especially with a well placed 207kmh serve. Otherwise, he was just solid.

Djokovic, on the other hand :wavey:

This is a great result for tennis. Glad to see the bigger pusher knocked out of an event on grass. Djokovic just pushes and pushes and pushes, while murray even though he pushes often looks for a chance to attack. Good stuff from the real world number 2!

Great match ! :yeah: and great atmosphere (how did the Serbians get so many tickets ? ;) )

I saw it with the sound of the ball and the public only, no commentators, thanks to Eurovision, and that was the best :yeah:

What's been happening for Murray since Wimbledon may be very good for him, I think, I like very much his attitude since then and I think he may be inspired by that in the future : accept points lost, be more humble and focus especially.

Also he has made great forehands.

Djokovic did his best, played well as well.

I don't know if people on MTF can learn from their errors, I think I should give up on that, but I think of the ones who said that Djokovic would win the tournament because he's the most patriotic guy.

I have no doubt about his big patriotism but the Olympics is a sports competition, they all want to win, and it's not a competition about who's the most patriotic

Despite what everyone will say, this was a better match than the other semifinal. It was good tennis out there.

I think he does it so "effortlessly",it doesnt appear as "clutch" as say Nole saving MPs against Tsonga at RG??In many of those 12 games he was 0-30 or 15-30 down,he just wouldnt go.Anyway, solid stuff from Murray.Amazing in clutch situations,Fed would need summon that first serve and those free flowing forehands to deny him this time.

What a great match this was. Murray was just too good, he was so mental tough. It was clear he will win after he won some crucial points even in first set.

What to say about Djokovic? It was clear from AO he is not in "2011 mode" and he will have a hard time to stay number one or win RG, W and Olympics gold. I said that after his match vs Murray at AO.

Mark Lenders

Disappointing match compared to the first semi. Murray surprisingly clutch, he could very well take gold here, although beating Federer over 5 sets won't be an easy task of course.

I agree, also grass didn't play much like grass in that match. It was very dry which made it easy for both to change direction, the biggest factor in the effectiveness of their movement. I don't think Murray had much help from it being grass court today, but just outplayed Djokovic.

If Murray stays aggressive against Nole, he will own him big time. The times he has lost is when he takes his foot off the pedal. I think Murray could be something very special if he starts beating the shit out of Rafa too. I don't know why he bends over for Rafa. If he plays aggressively, he should beat Rafa more often. Nole he will own with this type of play

Superb first set from both, there was very little to differentiate between them. They were both being proactive as possible, quickly turning defense shot into offense, it was really joy for watching. Practically one bad "Rodick like" approach from Djokovic and Murray seized the given opportunity.
In the second set Murray tried to lower the pace of the match and drag the level down, but he only dragged his level down a bit abandoning the tactics from the first set. Djokovic had BPs in four of Murray service games but Murray great first serve bailed him out on 3 of them keeping him equal scoreline wise, on fourth it was really Djokovic's bad shot selection after a drop shot from Andy. And that was the nail in the coffin for the Serb, disappointed that he couldn't break he surrendered the next game with UE's. Good chance for a revenge against Federer if he plays like in the first set, if he plays like in the second he will need a lot of help from the Swiss.

yes. truly disappointing. he used to be able to force the opponent to submission by making him play more. Something happened mid-season, a deflation of will. Perhaps that RG final hurt more than in seems.

On the other side, Djokovic and his serving at 5:6 :stupid::stupid::stupid:
WTF is wrong with him in that game???
He lost it twice today, twice vs Tsonga at Roland Garros, in the final of RG vs Nadal, in the final of Rome vs Nadal... I guess that's why he always wants to serve first in the set.

Very anoying result for me as Djokovic fan, but it has to be said that he lost to better grass-court player... Djokovic's Wimbledon title is still huge shock for me...

wow, what a match. incredible intensity and emotion from both, and they played as if their lives depended on it. murray’s superior grass court form and aggressive inside-out and dtl fh (finally painting some lines) were the decisive factors. this was high stakes tennis at it’s very finest, my friends.

Interesting that Murray now has (I think) six straight set victories over the Serb. This means all six of Andy's successes over Djokovic have been achieved in straight sets. When you consider him being two points away from victory in Rome last year and five points away from victory against the world no.2 in Melbourne this year, Andy should be winning this rivalrly 8-6 rather than behind 8-6. Brilliant match today. Skill, drama and everything else :worship:

Djokovic from 2011 was incredible maybe one of the best ever but the ao final was a glimpse of how he was fading away. The 2.0 Djokovic you guys talk about would have destroyed Nadal in the AO final and he almost lost that. After that the most significant thing Novak did was beat Rog in the FO semis but other than that you can see how he slowly is reverting back to the mental midget form he used to have. I'm calling it right now, he doesn't make it to the US Open final, maybe not even semis

clearly you haven't seen what other top players have said about the olympics and what it means to them or you wouldn't say that.Legends like agassi, graf and williams have all stated that to them the olympics actually means more.

Djokovic was lot better than yesterday, still wasnt enough. Both Djoko and Murka would have beaten Fed today probably( returning ten times better than Pony and defending like madmen) , but Sunday is new day and we all know Murka will fail badly in big finals vs Fed.
We saw them both a week ago

And we'll see the same story at the final, where the pressure will be aproximately 6.8 times heavier for Muzza than Wimby and for Roger as well.

I expect a huge load of pushing from Muzza on Fed's Bh, like in 98% of the balls and several moonballs back.

What will decide the match - Muzza will serve around or less than 50% and if it's under the roof will be another walk in the park for the GOAT.

At least i hope

Today was awesome - you couldn't see any the petulance that has supposedly been the hallmark of his failure to reach the very top of the game. His belief is building, and so is that of all the Brits watching him at home on their tv screens :)

in 2008 he was class

then he became an unbearable crybaby drama queen to his own team and fans- and played like ferrer 2.0

since ivan has been around he has been amazing- probably the greatest british player ever when his game is on

would love to see murray play nadal with this new found confidence

A repeat of the Wimbledon final!! This is turning out to be a hell of a year for tennis.
Here's hoping federer takes the gold and completes his repertoire once and for all.

Actually, this is rather Nole's regular form apart from his fluke first half of 2011. What a hot streak that was... :)

I'm beginning to reassess the importance of olympic victory. We are lucky to have in the final the two men seem to place the highest value on being olympic champions. Sub par Federer displayed awesome grit and determination to eventually prevail against an on-fire del Potro. Murray's outstanding play and his emotional reaction after his win were both wonderful to see.

This is a great victory for murray but it's hilarious that the rabid Novak fans on this site blasted me just before the clay season started for saying and i quote " The games best are more prepared in 2012 and he(novak) will have a much tougher time an won't dominate". Seems i and many others who predicted his fall were right. Now his rabid fans who never have anything positive to say about anyone other then their guy will be forced to shut the hell up or risk being made to look like a fool considering novak is flattering in the crucial moments right now and has suffered 3 big loses at the hands of the other players who occupy the top 4.

And the real vultures are a couple of guys that are taking advantage of Nadal's absence lately :p

Nadal played Wimbledon and got destroyed just like he would have if he had played the olympics. Your boy is home hiding under his bed afraid to come out.

Good analysis. I agree

Only saw the first set - fantastic display by Murray! No passive pushing shit, nope - showed exactly how well he can play when he's on, smelling the 'blood'. :worship:

I don't mind who wins coming Sunday.
If anything, a repeat of the current Wimbledon final, it shows that both men were the rightful and deserving finalists there.
Make it a good one, Muzza.

Wow so you predicted that a pro tennis player (in the most competive era in history) would not win every major event from now until kingdom come. You have talent! You can help the police with these psychic abilities.

Second, why should I have positive things to say about murray/federer if I take issue with their style of play/sportsmanship? I have positive things to say about nadal all the time, what are you goin' on about? No-one will force anyone to shut the hell up kid. We have bigger stones than you imagine! What a shame - I was expecting, and quietly looking forward to, an epic final between the number one and number two.

But Murray has proved me wrong and shown that he is a better grass court player than Djokovic, as many of the posters here stated previously. Kudos to all of you.

And yes, Murray deserved to win. It was a very strong first set. Can he win the final? Yes, but based on past experience I'd put my money on Federer, whose serving was awesome in the marathon third set against Delpo.

There is no doubt that Murray is the greatest British player ever. If anyone doubts that fact I would have them view the Tokyo final against Nadal where Murray won from a set down and only lost four points in the final set. That final set was a greater beatdown than the Nadal Rosol fifth set.

Much of them not supporting him had to do with his attitude and his defensive style of play. He was a ticking time bomb for along time, which makes it hard to support him. He was so busy with himself that the crowd could not get into it. His defensive playing style ensured that all they could cheer for were opponents' errors.

He changed both, and now seems to really enjoy the support. It's pretty impressive from Murray. I am quite the headcase myself on court, and it's very difficult to change that.

Not a Brit but you've nailed my opinion of Murray right on the head and the reason why, even with his impressive play of late, I'm at best still on the fence where he's concerned. Problem is he had many opportunities in the past to possibly make a fan of me but ultimately resorted to the moping and pushing that turned me off to begin with.

While he's certainly shown considerable improvement this year, especially these last couple of tournaments, I'm still wary of boarding his bandwagon. So even though he's not my least favourite of the top four, he's still not on my overall list of players I regularly root for... But if he keeps on exhibiting signs of growth and maturity in terms of his game and demeanour on court, Murray will earn more of my respect.

I have to admit I was wrong about tennis in the Olympics.

I have thought tennis shouldn't be an Olympic sport, but when I eventually tuned in to Fed v del Po at 5-5 in the 3rd set, and then caught a few glimpses of Djokovic v Murray, it is clear that the players do want to win very badly, and this really overrides all other concerns, because it makes for some very entertaining tennis.

Until now, I have mostly been a Slam watcher, because nobody, not even the players, cares so much about the other tournaments, and this does have an effect on the quality and intensity of matches. Now I have to acknowledge that the Olympics is really in its own special category, and some players want to win almost more than they do the Slams.

Anyway, congrats to Muzza and Fed, and I hope they put on a good show in the Final. Of course, if Federer wins, it would elevate the status of Olympic tennis; whereas if Andy wins, many people will no doubt claim that it is not very important. Still hope Andy wins though.

I agree mate. I've stated in another post that I would be looking closely to how his gamestyle will develop on courts outside of GB. If he continues on like this, I might start rooting for him. My biggest problem with Murray was always that he had all the talent in the world, yet still resorted to pushing. It's like a handyman with the world's greatest utility belt comes to fix stuff, but insists on using only a screwdriver and a hammer.
