From what Ive seen (I didnt see the whole match), there was some solid serving from both players. Roger upped his level in the end of the first set, but in the second set it was all even again. Some more great serving. The match point was epic, though!

He has a nasty serve and he's a clutch player, so he can be very dangerous when he's on. Just look at the second set and how close it was. One lapse, or one forehand from Isner and the tiebreak could be lost. With no tiebreak in the last set, you have to break his serve in order to win, and that can be a nightmare.

Actually it was not pure luck on MP. Federer has probably the best sliced backhand in the ATP. He has used that shot to carry him to seven Wimbledon titles. The slice backhand and chips and his soft hands are the defining factor that differentiate his game from the ballbashers and physicality players. As a Fed fan who also loves John Isner I was feeling mixed emotions. I don't trust John to get the gold medal so he needed to lose, BUT playing him on a windy day like this when Federer was not able to hit his spots with his serve as much as he would like is very tough. Federer has ice in his veins and he has proven that over and over in the last year. He is leading the tour by a HUGE HUGE MARGIN as the player who comes back from being down a set or even down two sets to win matches. Nadal is winning like 30% of his matches in the last 12 months after dropping the first set. Roger is winning 65% after dropping the first set and is also way ahead of Djokovic and Murray in this same stat. It's a calm steward leading the ship in stormy seas. He is the maestro.

Never a bad day when an all serve trash like Isner loses, especially on grass.

Hopefully this will cool down some of the Isner fangirls who think serve is all you need to succeed in tennis.

Lucky one, there, Fedsie! :p
A brainfart from Isner in the first set, a lucky netcord in the second, to eventually seal the deal. Not that I'm complaining about those, of course. :p

Seriously, Isner played a good match, he just didn't have Goddess Fortuna looking at him and choosing his side when he truly needed it.
Kudos to him, nothing to be ashamed about on his performance.

As for Federer - ALLEZ and keep it going! :rocker2:

The man's, what, just about to turn 31? I'll take it. :D

I guess Isner was absent from the court when Roger's opponent played those volleys then.

Me too. :D Couldn't say I wasn't extremely relieved when John made that error on break point in the first set, and when Roger's ball just fell over to John's side of the court after clipping the net. :haha:

What a match point

It was a great match. Isner played a great match, and he didn't do anything wrong in the tie break, yet he lost it.

2 more wins for Federer. :)

Poor John. My favourite American player I would say.
