Murray takes out alMUGro in Olympics quaterfinals.
Starting to think that while everyone is concentrating on Federer and nole, Murray might just sneak in the gold

Wasn't Murray supposed to have the most difficult draw BTW?

29/7 W/UEs, 81% 1st serves, 15 aces and wins in less than an hour, impressive

Can't believe we're getting to the semis already, it seems really fast. Delighted to see Murray in them. :D

Almagro would have retired if it hadn't been the Olympics Games

It looked difficult at the start but it opened up with Berdych and Gasquet going out.

Good on Almagro for playing it out, would have been easy to throw in the towel at 2-1 or 4-1 in the 2nd.

Yep, I believe that's true.

He wasn't a happy bunny out there today, but then, he will keep playing with a shoulder complaint. If he won't rest it, it won't get better.

Andy was looking very good today but hard to guage it because he had little meaningful competition.

Baggy is a tougher opponent for Murray than Gasquet

Easy does it Andy! Saved some energy for the big semi-final next. . .

I dont think so, though he should have retired. He played through Bastad and Hamburg, i think he should have not played through Bastad, the injury was at its worse in Bastad.

Fair point. I forgot it was him who knocked Gasquet out.

He didn't in Bastad with the same problem, had much worse problems than this - almost lost to Minar, and Gimeno-T took him to 3.

Shame that Almagro couldn't have made more of a match of it, but props to him for taking the defeat and not retiring when he was obviously hindered by the shoulder. However with Murray serving at that level I doubt there would have been a different result even if his opponent had been 100% fit.

Given his H2H with both Delpo and Nishikori 3rd is more likely.

yay GB.

Glad we took advantage of the cakewalk draw. Was a guaranteed medal as soon as Berdych fucked up, now to see if we can get more than bronze

4th is the most unlikely of all the positions he will finish.

A few GB gold hopes have bombed so he possibly may be called upon to bail them out.

wondering if murray could pull out another of his Master 1000 epic draws. tsonga has to beat nole in epic , then exhausts himself even more in doubles and then face non fed in finals

Unlikely. Worst case scenario in playing Porto/Nishikori for bronze and he beats either of them easily if he feels like it. He is beating the winner of Tsonga/Djokovic in the semi anyway so it does't really matter.

Chris Kuerten

I agree he will probably beat Nishikori, but he never had it easy against Del Potro.

Tsonga/Djokovic beating him is a lock.

Murray has a decent chance of winning gold for Great Britain, would be a great achievement for him. But he could also equally finish emptyhanded.

Great performance from Murray. Wasn't against a fully fit Almagro but that serving was still superb nonetheless.

Should win a medal for us now and hopefully he can go even further.

Tsonga/Djokovic beating him is a lock.

Head to head against Potro is 5-1. Grass is also Potro's worst surface, don't think he can beat Murray on grass.

Kind of Bizzare aswell that you think Tsonga beating him would be a lock considering Murray is 6-1 against Tsonga and 3-0 on grass. If anything Murray beating Tsonga is the lock.

I would also say Murray-Djoko on grass, BO3 would be 50-50. Definately not a certain win for Novak.

Considering Djokovic lost a set to Fabio and Lleyton, he is not a lock for the finals. Don't know what is making you think that way, Gustavo.

This is a very important tournament for Djokovic, he will bring the heat against Murray and won't lose :armed:

Although I'm still rooting for Tsonga to win the whole thing.

Good result. Would be typical if Murray won gold here right after losing the biggest match of his life at the same venue just a couple of weeks ago.
